Riding Mass Transit Is Like Inviting 20 Corrupt Politicians Into Your Wallet

Redmonton Journal;

The much maligned NAIT LRT line, now 15 months behind schedule, ran into serious flaws in construction long before the city blamed Thales Canada and its signalling system for the delay.
According to a report obtained by the Journal and interviews with other sources, water has been pooling on the tracks, the guard rails protecting train wheels from wear have come loose and electrical conduits for the signalling and communications systems have been found blocked or filled with debris and water.

Pass the fava beans.

  1. SNC-Lavalin. Not a big surprise.
    Stupid City of Edmonton should never have built a line at grade directly through some of the busiest streets in the city.

  2. Ever notice that every time there is a problem with a City contract, it is always the contractor to blame? You would think that maybe the City staff would know how to properly write contracts and know how to monitor progress.

  3. That would imply that anyone on city council has ever had experience in the private sector managing contracts, or that there is any incentive for them to do so. They won’t get fired for wasting money.

  4. “The science is conclusive that says that reducing your meat consumption does result in a positive environmental outcome,” Marina Banister
    Now there is loaded crock of crap statement. I think council should opt for 100 % meat and cheese menu.
    Edmonton seems to go to great lengths to elect the biggest morons possible to city council, I guess like most cities. A lot of them are there because they failed at whatever menial task they were performing as life’s work.
    My observation, and I might be wrong, is that Edmonton’s gridlock comes from abandoning the street grid system for the arterial system. My first observation of this was when one day I drove to visit the only white guy in Mill Woods. I ended up a block from his house but eventually had to drive several miles to get to it. In old neighborhoods, every street could be used to get somewhere and every 6 blocks or so was a 4 lane street with limited lights. Nowadays they funnel massive amounts of traffic into roads like Whitemud Drive when rush hour speed often ends up at 0 mph. And the idiots think they are going to solve it with a few $ billion plus trains to the surburbs that have minuscule population density. They would be a lot better off building more roads that went somewhere and investing in buses.
