  1. They should make Omar K. The spokesman for the new bacon sandwich, to head off the CHRC for offending all Muslims.

  2. Just sent them an email. Mentioned that if they were so loving of the environment they would make their take out cups deposit returnable rather than have them strewn about the roads of Canada.

  3. Talk about extraordinary marketing misjudgement – I thought McDonalds and other junk food chains had this egg-muffin-bacon abomination covered – and they are losing massive market share as people shy away from traditional fast junk food.
Someone at Horton’s just keeps making huge judgement errors – then again these cloistered corporate dummies don’t even know who their clientele are = now they are copying the McDonald’s menu.
When can we expect to see “Timmy” the clown as a new mascot and have to climb over jungle jim playsets to get to a counter.

  4. Tim Hortons makes the most money from customers going through drive-Thru so the boys from Brazil should walk the talk and shutdown all their drive-Thru’s so that deadly carbon (Plant food) can be reduced. Also stop this nonsense of being open late or 24/7.
For my take I don’t feel guilty at all…If I buy 6 coffees at any shop during a whole year, I’ve been splurging.
I brew my own and I have this wonderful stainless steel thing called a Thermos.
I just can’t phantom spending up to $800.00 a year on java…No wonder lot’s of people have no money put aside.

  5. After soccer last night my little girl spotted a Timmie’s and asked for a donut, I forgot the boycott (and my usual frugality) and went in with her where she selected a donut with white icing and sprinkles ($1.04 all in), the two teenagers who served it up were the nicest politest friendliest retail service workers I’ve ever dealt with, while I will continue to avoid Tim’s I just want to point out that there’s always more to these issues than you think.

  6. yes yop, it’s some ppl’s lively hood. But then some in here are as cloistered as Occam claims the “corporate” boys to be.

  7. There is nothing “junk” about an egg, a slice of cheese, a slice of ham and an english muffin. It is such a perfect breakfast that after McDonald’s came up with the egg mcmuffin every other fast food chin in the country came up with their own version. Some of us even make them ourselves at home.

  8. ‘it’s some ppl’s lively hood’
Exactly and didn’t Tim’s corporate office start this with their anti pipeline bs?

  9. One of my favorite Far Side cartoons was Vikings returning from a pillaged village that was burning in the background, and a dog that is tied up to the bow of the longboat is wagging his tail furiously at the approaching horde. It doesn’t matter to the dog what his master has been up to, the one that the dog adores is coming, so he’s happy. That doesn’t mean that if you love dogs and want them to be happy you favour Viking raids, it means that what is good or bad for you as an individual in the small sense isn’t necessarily good or bad for the majority in the large sense (good for dog in cartoon is not good for villagers in cartoon).
The Tim Hortons jobs are starting jobs for most, a way into the workforce. The jobs that were referenced by the ad campaign that Tim Hortons ripped up are careers. Yes, there’s good people on both sides. No, the local franchise didn’t start this. If the Brazilian owners favour the views of big-city American environmentalists over working-class Canadians, then I think it’s right that other working class Canadians let Tim Hortons know that they’re upsetting their base.
    love the new captcha!

  10. A boycott wouldn’t affect my coffee buying habits. The traffic blocking drive-thrus annoy me too much. I usually only drink my own brew, but if I meet someone for coffee, we meet at a locally owned coffee place rather than a franchise.
Whenever I visit Calgary, I have frequented Tim Horton’s, but there is such a choice of coffee shops downtown that I am sure that I can find somewhere else. If I am invited to meet at Tim’s by one of my oil buddies, I won’t demur, but I would mention this episode when we meet.

  11. “If the Brazilian owners favour the views of big-city American environmentalists over working-class Canadians, then I think it’s right that other working class Canadians let Tim Hortons know that they’re upsetting their base.”
Exactly and well said. The Tim’s on 51 St. in Saskatoon has now been bypassed 4 times by us during trips to the city. A great family owned and run lunch place has been the beneficiary of our trips to the city lunch money. Why, the owner stops at the table to chat for a couple of minutes. Sadly no donuts there though.

  12. Tim Horton’s started this mess with their bias against one of our most important industries, from which tens of thousands of Canadians earn their LIVELIHOOD.
A “lively hood” is Watts after dark.
I’ve boycotted TH’s for years as the quality of their coffee and doughnuts fell. I wish the Brazilians would rename it “Pele’s “, as some of us old timers remember how great a hockey player Tim Horton really was,and I’m not even a Leafs fan.

  13. Yeah, I don’t get the hate-on for a breakfast sandwich. I’ve made them myself at home more than once. When you get the egg cooked just the way you like it, eat it piping hot with ham or bacon… mmmmm, good. There are a hell of a lot of worse things for you on both the Tim’s & McD’s menus.
Tim’s hash browns are terrible, though. They always taste soggy to me.

  14. We have now discovered Coffee Time.
They make an amazing Ice Cap which was my reason to head to Tim’s.
We still have over $20 on our Tim card. There it shall remain unless and until the Brazilians change their minds.

  15. Yesterday, i went to family-owned Japanese restaurant and ordered a coffee and the tiramisu. That’s really Canadian, never mind the official policy of multiculturalism.

  16. There are more trickle down jobs from the oil industry than there are from Tim Horton’s.
TH joined the bad guys in a fight that shouldn’t exist in the first place.
They are the bullies in this scenario, not the oil industry.

  17. Exactly. But they drank Al Gore’s koolaid. However I doubt many franchises will see much of a drop in their business, as there too many LIV people that do not know or care until it hits them.

  18. Van Houtte Dark Columbian…..ground very fine. Dripped. Black. In a pinch, Nabob traditional.
One litre, steel Thermos(tm) with the flip up pour cap (circa 1985) so’s I can pour when I drive long distance. Lotta miles on that unit.

  19. I’ve always thought of “egg McMuffin” as a very poor imitation of eggs Benedict.

  20. That awful Brazilian based hedge fund is essentially controlled by other foreign interests back in the U.SA..
