  1. “Wrong again, it’s we who are centrist right.” Ok. I can’t really talk any more, because I’m due back on planet Earth. Incidentally, here’s where I fall in the political spectrum Almost dead-centre:

I encourage you to take this test and see where you fall. Be interesting to see whether or not you are as centre-right or libertarian as you think you are. I won’t hold my breath, because I doubt you are willing to learn anything about yourself but here’s the link:

“Un huh, so what are you saying now that Canada made poor little Omar into a child soldier to go out and murder that nasty US soldier, so we owe him something now?”
I know reading is tough, but if you look at what I said very, very clearly, it was his father. So no. Canada is not responsible for him being a child soldier. But we haven’t treated him as one. We’ve treated him as if he was an adult. The whole point of having a law that says it’s a war crime to turn a child into a soldier is because we believe that it’s wrong to hand a kid a gun and turn them into a killer. But when it happens it doesn’t mean that kid is instantly an adult. I still means they themselves are a victim of a war crime. In Khadr’s case, he’s been victimized many times. First by his father, by radical Islam, by the Americans who tortured him and held him in a black prison, and then by his own country.

  2. @Richfisher
Here’s what you said I said: “What is sooooo funny/sad about your comment is that you, like other rightwingers, probably think people should be allowed to own guns”
Here’s what I really said: “What is sooooo funny/sad about your comment is that you, like other rightwingers, probably think people should be allowed to own guns so they can take up arms against your government.”
See that last little bit? The bit about “so they can take up arms agains your government.”
It’s important, because it points out a very, very real rightwing talking point. And the reason I brought this up is because you can’t go talking about other people committing treason against the government when you do it yourself. Big, big difference.
(Incidentally, I own a gun, so I’m hardly against gun ownership.)

  3. John >
“Canada is not responsible for him being a child soldier.”
So then what the hell were you ranting about child soldiers for as if you have some moral authority on the rest of us? You made your whole ridiculous argument as if I and the rest of Canada made poor little Omar a child soldier and now we needed to pay the piper or something.
As richfisher stated what makes someone outside of crazy think they can tell the rest of us what we can and can’t own for personal property in our own nations?
John, we own guns and there is not a damned thing you can do about it buddy, so suck it up.
Also make sure you put a BIG “Gun Free Zone” sticker on the front of your house please, it’ll impress your neighbors.

  4. You really need to do some research. Everywhere you look, under 18 is considered a child soldier. Everywhere.
“Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OPAC): Adopted by the UN General Assembly on 25 May 2000, entered into force on 12 February 2002. OPAC sets 18 as the minimum age for direct participation in hostilities and for compulsory recruitment by state armed forces. States may accept volunteers from the age of 16 but must deposit a binding declaration at the time of ratification or accession, setting out their minimum voluntary recruitment age and outlining certain safeguards for such recruitment. OPAC also prohibits the recruitment or use in hostilities of under-18s by non-state armed groups.”
You can find more on that here: http://www.child-soldiers.org/international_standards.php
So not only was he not 18. He wasn’t even 16 when he was indoctrinated into this life. Again… he was just a kid. We’re supposed to protect kids. If you think he’s responsible go ahead and demand full adult rights for all kids aged 15. Face it… you haven’t the balls to acknowledge that my logic here is sound. If Khadr is responsible for his actions as an adult, we are obligated to make all 15-year-olds fully responsible for their actions. Let ’em have sex with 40 year olds. Let ’em drink. Let ’em drive. Let ’em sign up to be police officers. By your logic, they are 100% ready.

  5. “It’s important, because it points out a very, very real rightwing talking point. And the reason I brought this up is because you can’t go talking about other people committing treason against the government when you do it yourself. Big, big difference.”
Heh only one supporting treasonous murderer scum is you here John, did you notice that “big big difference”?

  6. You keep on failing to realize that no. He was in fact a child soldier. And that non-state combatants are not allowed to recruit kids under the age of 18 for combat, or even under that age of 15. It’s pretty clear that Khadr was being indoctrinated much earlier than that. Pops was probably a radical from the day he was born. So you are blaming the son for the sins of the father.
As for this line: “But don’t worry John. If our government continues on the present path, you’ll have plenty of opportunity to discuss it in person with lots of real jihadis right here in Canada. Probably at the mall or the grocery store. That’s where they’ll show up to demonstrate Sharia Law as it applies to infidels.”
What’s so sad and tragic about this is that you actually believe it. That we’ll all be praying towards Mecca in a few years if we don’t crush kids like Khadr under our boots. You are more likely to die in a moose attack dude. You really need to stop worrying so much about jihadis hiding in your shed. They’re just not there. Yes, they are a problem. A problem that should be handled using our laws, not extra-judicial crap, and torture, and military actions that kill and/or maim thousands of people, thus creating more terrorists.
If we have more terrorists, we have 8 years of rightwing policy to blame.

  7. John >
“You really need to stop worrying so much about jihadis hiding in your shed.”
No their hiding in your “shed” and their killing defenceless soldiers on parliament hill like 24 year old Cpl. Nathan Cirillo you f*cking traitorous retard!

  8. When a rabid dog bites it gets put down, none cares if it is under 18.

  9. Tsk, tsk, John, you really must read beyond the first paragraph of a webpage. You know that page you linked to? Well, under the heading “Convention on the Rights of the Child” one can read the following:
“Convention on the Rights of the Child: Adopted by the UN General Assembly on 20 November 1989, entered into force on 2 September 1990. The Convention on the Rights of the Child generally defines a child as any person under the age of 18. However, Article 38 uses the lower age of 15 as the minimum for recruitment or participation in armed conflict. This language is drawn from the two Additional Protocols to the four Geneva Conventions of 1949 (see below).
Article 38 requires state parties to prevent anyone under the age of 15 from taking direct part in hostilities and to refrain from recruiting anyone under the age of 15 years. OPAC was drafted in order to raise the minimum ages set out in the Convention.”
As for the “Optional Protocol to the Convention on the Rights of the Child on the involvement of children in armed conflict (OPAC)” you quoted from, notice the first word: OPTIONAL. As explained in the Wiki article I initially quoted from:
“As the ICRC* commentary on Protocol it [sic] makes clear, this is not a complete ban on the use of children in conflict. … Refraining from recruiting children under fifteen does not exclude children who volunteer for armed service. During the negotiations over the clause “take a part in hostilities” the word “direct” was added to it, this opens up the possibility that child volunteers could be involved indirectly in hostilities, gathering and transmitting military information, helping in the transportation of arms and munitions, provision of supplies etc.”
So, what is the ICRC alluded to above? The International Committee of the Red Cross/Crescent. On their website, you can read the following:
“3178 The word “children” is not clarified in any way, and this omission is intentional. The Rapporteur said: “It should also be noted that the Committee decided not to place specific age limits in paragraphs 1 and 4 and that there is no precise definition of the term “children”.” (3)
3179 The term “child” does not have a generally accepted definition. … However, the limit of fifteen years of age, which is given many times in the fourth Convention and is also given in paragraphs 2 and 3 of this article, seems to provide a reasonable basis for a definition. Moreover, the article itself in paragraphs 2 and 5 uses the word “persons” in referring to a limit of eighteen years. This does not prevent the fact that some countries have adopted a lower or higher age than fifteen years, but there is no doubt that all human beings under fifteen should, within the meaning of the Fourth Convention and [p.900] this Protocol, be considered and treated as children.”
My contention, that the oft-repeated mantra about Omar Khadr being 15 years old and therefore a child soldier, stands.

  10. Peter “I am not sure of the immigration status of the khadr family in Afghanistan”
scar – They were in Afghanistan to kill Afghanis

  11. “The only people further to the right of you guys are the gang at Storm Front, and I’m sure that many of those folk visit here when they’re looking for a little light conversation.”
Nope they are socialists, just like you.

  12. “I encourage you to take this test and see where you fall. ”
Kindly take this useless two dimensional compass and insert it into your mangina.

  13. Easy Ted easy, all we need to is for baby Omar to move into peter’s and john’s neighborhood, I am sure they would let their children play with him…

  14. So nice of you to elevate the tone of the conversation Ted. I am flattered that you show so much thought and make such creative use of the English language to make your incisive and unique points about wishing harm on people you’ve never met…like myself and my children.
I wonder if the CSIS guys would consider it a terroristic threat. Maybe just a terroristic wish?
At any rate, I hope you are enjoying yourself spewing hatred and ignorant malice. Maybe go knock back a couple six packs and get creative.

  15. I don’t think peter and john can have biological kids, but I’d feel sorry for the adopted ones anyway.

  16. If Omar is harmless then could one of his advocates please provide a link where he condemns islamic jihad, and states uncategorically he was forced by his father to join Osama Bin Ladin’s jihad.

  17. Sorry to disappoint you, my courageous crypto fascist. My eldest is on full scholarship, middle is an athletic star and youngest is following the academic standards set by his big sister. Mom, daughter and grandma are enjoying a couple of days in Vancouver and just took in Neil Diamond. Other than khadr ruining your week, how’s your offspring…goose stepping into the brave new world? I’m not sure if Thugs ‘R” Us pays you for your frequent dissembling dissertations herein, but you match most of the criteria for paid troll so if you aren’t on the payroll, check it out.

  18. John, total B.S.
My uncle lied about his age when he enlisted as a bugler in WWI. No one dragged him to the enlistment office which was 18 miles away. He borrowed a pair of long pants as kids his age wore knickerbockers thinking the long pants would help him pass as an adult even though, by increasing his age by only 2 yrs, he was still underage. He was only one of hundreds who did the same thing, as you can read in the book Old Enough to Fight by Dan Black and John Boileau. In his case, he played the bugle to warn of gas attacks and wouldn’t have been harming anyone, but a German sniper shot him when he was helping to extend trenches in the early morning. He was two months short of his 16th birthday. The others, who weren’t buglers, were doing the same dangerous work as the men they were fighting beside.
So now tell me the story again about the poor Muslim boy who was forced by his father to become a terrorist, ultimately killing a member of the U.S. Army. Tell me how he’s had a conversion from terrorist to peace-loving boy, even though Americans imprisoned him and even tortured him, according to his claims.
Khadr has more well-placed friends in Canada then any of our own young men and women serving in the military today. All their compassion is placed on this one man, who never did one thing for Canada – neither he, nor any of his family. What a waste of energy, but it makes them feel G.O.O.D. and that is the most important thing for them, I believe.

  19. John says, “You really need to stop worrying so much about jihadis hiding in your shed. They’re just not there.”
Yep, they don’t emerge until you decide to draw a cartoon.

  20. Yes crazy #2 I’ve been posting here in good faith for nearly a decade, the only trolls are you roll-in losers telling law abiding Canadian citizens that you hate them but love the Islamist fascists who may one day kill a member of your family.
My weeks not ruined at all thank you, I have a very good and prosperous life as do my brilliant and healthy non islamic offspring. I intend to keep it that way, and you and your crazy ilk will not get in the way of it. Sorry to disappoint

  21. “PM Harper is a bigot and does not like Muslims”
I do not think the lawyer guy knows what PM Harpers feelings are towards any particular ideology.
If not wanting a convicted and confessed murderer, I.E.D. tutor, who dances around downtown wherever-stan with various body parts on a string, to run free makes one a “bigot”
Well sign this PO’ed old guy up for a T shirt with bigot on it I will wear it proudly.
I am thinkin’ that the lawyer will end up like the frog in the tale of the scorpion and the frog, it is his (the scorpion’s) nature after all.
This will not end well JMO
One of my Uncles that landed at Normandy in WW2, fought through Holland and who was invaladided home after his fifth wound.
    He was a Bren Gunner.
Over a campfire on a moosehunt beside the Prophet river, he told me what had bothered him most àbout the war was what he called `the babies`
He had never spoken about his experiences overseas before that, and never spoke about them again.
I thought he meant the kids among the civilian population.
Not so, he said, they were the snipers left behind to kill Allied soldiers, some were 11 and 12.
They would not surrender, killing them was the only solution, they were trained, fanitical and crack shots.
Hire yourself out as a tough shit, don`t cry when sombody calls you out.
Khadr and his ilk are bad news, their apologists and supporters are the real bigots.
    Again JMO

  22. Boy oh boy! (5:45pm). If ever a obvious hit job on the Conservative Government was put forth on CTV, this one would be hard to beat. There is Robert Fife with the Scotsman and company. Lauding Khadr. “How Canadian he sounds” etc. Then blistering the efforts of the Harper Government to keep him where he does not wish to be.

Quickly the subject was changed to the Prime Minister’s visit to the troops. Literally they were salivating over the “serious consequences” of the photo ops.

Again no mention of the US Army Medic who was killed, nor the other soldier blinded in one eye. Not even a whisper from one of ’em with a faint aside, as to any possible repercussions with this man Khadr.
