Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Plummeting oil prices and an NDP government.
This’ll be fun.
There is absolutely nothing that a socialist approach to government cannot ruin. Sow the wind, reap the whirlwind.
I don’t relish moving to Saskatchewan at my advanced age, but cannot stomach the thought of an NDP government.
Maybe some of us beleaguered Ontario Conservatives can give some of you smug westerners a taste of your own medicine once your voters have their own leftist insanity meltdown.
Always watch when you stir up shat, sometimes you have to eat your own words.
I don’t relish moving to Saskatchewan at my advanced age, but cannot stomach the thought of an NDP government.
I optimistically believe that voters will pull back and come to their senses when it comes time to actually mark the “You’ve-got-to-be-kidding Party” (TM Joel Johannesen).
I’m not sure if it is time to worry. The poll is over 4 days old and the results don’t agree with other polls taken shortly before that had Wildrose ahead. Only one poll has the NDP ahead. Another poll is needed to provide clarity. That expression on Rachel Notley’s face – kid hiding something. She’s going to bring wealth to Alberta by Increasing taxes and expanding the civil service. Remind me, how’s that working in Ontario?
Let it burn.
The NDP would be an unmitigated disaster. One of the results of a sustained period of wealth is the attraction and growth of the parasites and the gullibly naive. I do not look forward to going through the same economic wilderness Saskatchewan had to go through before it got Brad Wall. However, the inevitable economic downturn which would accompany an NDP government would probably drive away the young, typically NDP voters and so have within it a certain element of self-correction. Hopefully we would not lose too many of the productive oil patch workers and entrepreneurs in the process.
Today’s editorial in the National Post posits that an NDP government wouldn’t be good for AB. Essentially, the Dippers plan to tax the top 10% and raise corporate taxes is the wrong medicine.
The NDP will rack up hypermajorities in Redmonton, a seat or two at most in Calgary and be shut out of the rest of the province.
P.C. minority propped up by Wildrose (as much as I hate to concur with anything Danielle Smith predicts.)
I’m with you, doowleb. I’ve taken a little heat a while back for contemplating a move to Saskatchewan from some of these westerners belly-aching over the fact that I’m from the east, and therefore responsible allowing for the disastrous liberals for taking power, even though I didn’t vote liberal.
Some of you should look in a mirror today. Do Conservatives really eat their own? I’m hoping that is not the case. I believe we’re better than that, but we must learn to stick together and learn how to fight the real enemy.
On the other hand, I seem to recall a poll which predicted a WR victory in the last Alberta election. As Kate says, “Fool me once…”
Considering the Dinkers missed a whole fiscal year in their alternate budget.
http://www.edmontonjournal.com/misses+year+balanced+budget+calculation/10989296/story.html
Also, things you won’t see on the CBC.
Notley committed a grievous unforced error a day ago in saying that she would not push for the gateway pipeline. (Much as the ndp bc leader did in their last election).
It likely cost them ten or more seats.
Despite the efforts, or lack of, by Alberta’s latest editions of premier, it remains a prosperous place with loads of potential. In six months an NDP government could destroy everything that is good about the province and recovery would not be quick once the socialists were eventually relegated to opposition. This is a nightmarish scenario of apocalyptic proportions. However, I remain positive in the knowledge that Albertans are smarter than that and that polls are usually wrong.
How odd.
A political poll without any “undecided” voters.
Someone pushing an agenda, hiding reality?
Not a Canadian pollster. They would never push an agenda.
Amusing to say the least. Particularly given the guff that a lot of Albertans have been handing out over the past few years.
“Only in Ontario, you say?”
The NDP polling well is the result of Big Government in Alberta having become self-aware. The PC’s grew it, nurtured it, provided it cover and sort of controlled it to maintain their grip on power. Now Big Government feels it can go it alone, and are casting the PC’s aside.
So Alberta wants to become another Ontario and worse?
If the NDP win it will be an absolute disaster for Alberta, but yeah, there’d be that one tiny benefit: All those conservative Albertan commenters who repeatedly dismiss the views and concerns of rock-ribbed conservative commenters from Ontario with “Cry me a river, you elected Wynne” would have to either shut up or “admit” that they voted for the Alberta NDP.
In other words, they’d have to shut up.
Alberta becoming a socialist haven…..tell me it ain’t so! I can’t believe that Albertans could be this stupid.
One poll rarely tells the whole story, after all think of the number of pre-election polls that have proven to be totally wrong over the last few years. If anything good comes out of this it might be that Prentice and his PC’s finally get the message that smarten up and we the electrate mean it or your days are numbered.
If the lefties do win we’ll begin to see as many Alberta plates here in Saskatchewan as we’ve been seeing Manitoba plates in the last few years.
Precisely my point, EBD. In Ontario we’ve learned that you have to take the socialists seriously. After more than 40 years, Alberta conservatives have gotten complacent. Yes my boyos, it can happen to you too. An NDP win isn’t just a disaster in Alberta, equally an NDP win would be a disaster in Ontario, both of them affecting the entire country adversely.
And let’s face it, the difference between the Wynne Liberals and the Prentice PCs is vanishingly small. Aside from some unimportant handwaving, the two regimes and their fiscal approaches is essentially the same. And it’s not limited to just that. For all practical purposes, the federal and Ontario provincial budgets are nearly the same.
I’ll score this one along with the Wild Rose landslide predicted last election. If Alberta goes socialist I’ll give up coffee!
I don’t want to see the NDP win, not even 1 seat, but I’m actually ok with a big Alberta crash.
It’s about time Alberta woke up to the Socialist sh*t that’s been piling in for the last decade, and what better way than to have oil prices plummet and stick the NDP in charge for a term.
Nothing sends them packing back home faster than a full on and prolonged recession!
Personally I see some great “fire sale” property and business buying opportunities on the horizon, and like survivors of the holocaust they’ll never vote Nazi again.
Once the NDP get tarred, feathered, and run out of town, it’ll be a good opportunity to scrap the equalization payments to the welfare provinces as well.
Polls are fickle but Alberta has been a de facto NDP province for years under the Conservative banner. The Alberta Government has intruded into the private sector for decades, spent money like there’s no tomorrow, bought off the white collar public sector unions, appointed cronies everywhere, all while decrying the NDP and liberals whom they have displaced with their own policies. That they haven’t killed the black Golden Goose is their only redeeming quality.
If, and it’s a big if, the NDP wins, Notley will soon learn that all the candies that she sees her party throwing out there have already been tossed. She could drive Alberta into a greater deficit or try killing the golden goose, but would only be a one-termer for her efforts. Capital flight and overnight halting of energy projects wouldn’t help pay for her unionized and brain-dead parasite supporters.
Having lived through multiple NDP regimes in BC, they do serve to unite the so-called right even if it is only centre-left. Canada is far too advanced as a socialist dystopia to afford vote-splitting in the non-NDP/Lib/Green political pasture.
The prospect of electing an anti-oil political party in oil-rich Alberta.
It’s like the cartoon of sitting on a tree branch while sawing it free from the tree.
And there is a bear economy watching, just waiting for you on the ground.
An NDP win?
Hello higher taxes.
Goodbye Keystone.
Hello Carbon tax.
Hello provincial sales tax.
Goodbye more of your personal freedoms.
Hello an even larger and intrusive government.
Never underestimate the slavering stupidity of an Alberta voter. I guess the lessons of Saskatchewan and BC won’t be enough enough.
I can see an NDP government regulating the hell out of the oil companies (or any other company) to the point where they all pull up stakes an leave.
Once the NDP attain government, they become very hard to remove. Not unlike a fast moving cancer. The civil service gets expanded exponentially and the number of people receiving welfare payments increases dramatically. Both these areas are vote-rich NDP territory.

Precisely what I’m trying to say, they will – but – that may not be a bad thing for Alberta in the long haul.
It would be like forcing a 12 year old caught smoking to smoke 3 packs of cigarettes in a dark closet for a day– they don’t tend to take up smoking again.
Like all old comfortable societies without hardships and strife, Albertan’s have gotten fat and lazy with oilfield success and surplus. They’ve invited in the barbarians and the mentally ill decadence of Liberals into the culture, so it’s maybe time to reformate with a nuke & pave.
For years there have been people moving from Ontario and BC and other provinces to Alberta, where there ware lots of jobs. Now that they have a few years of Alberta living under their belts, they have forgotten why there were no jobs where they came from. So once again, they fall for the false promises of the leftists.
After the NDP debacle of the 1970’s, people in BC said “never again”. But they did. Given enough time, a majority of people will always succumb to to the leftist’s siren song. It’s human nature.
Well the irrelevant media here in Alberta had the Piss Off Vashy party winning 3 years ago, now its another “she aint pretty she just looks that way” NDPeer gonna win according to the parrots, if the green in the stands at a Stampeder vrs Sask. football game is not evidence enough for the brain dead as to the success of NDPee then they are beyond help. Alberta is about success, not failure like the NDPee embrace
Maybe Premier Nutley ( no that’s NOT a spelling error) plans to sign up with Quebec,Ontario, and California in a Cap and Trade love fest.
In return for completely shutting down the oiltar sands, which produce 97% of the world’s greenhouse gas emissions (or is it higher,I haven’t read the latest green fear mongering lately), Alberta can sell it’s quota to the thriving manufacturing industries in the other three members of the alliance.
Which should return a net minus billions.
C’mon Albertans, you’ve down looked on us B.C.’ers smugly for decades due to our electing Dipper govs in the past, now show us you weren’t just being smug a**holes, and actually DO have the common sense we always heard you have.
I guess Alberta never got the memo on Bob Rae from Ontario.
Alberta is a victim of its own success and demographics. Aging baby boomers are retiring en masse and want free, gold plated social programs – excellent pickings for the Dippers. Immigrants to the province are smuggling their stupidity in with them – from the legions of dummies fleeing the dumps they made in eastern Canada – to the swarms of third world sewage imported and dumped into our job market by the metric tonne. That is in addition to the home grown union slobs and gubbermint hacks that every province has.
For those of you revelling in our misery…think about this: Ontario and Alberta have been feeding the have-nots for ages now. The economic engine of Morontario has just flamed out thanks to the regressive policies of its ruling liberal party and its sexually disturbed premiere. If Alberta crashes and burns…who is going to feed the parasites of Quebec? The first nation freeloaders? The vibrant and ethnically diverse slum welfare cases?
For me, I’m voting wild rose. If the dippers get in and ruin the economy I will go on a holiday and go back to work once they are kicked out.
To the Alberta voter. So the PC’s produce the most left wing budget in Alberta’s history and what are you going to do in your anger?
Move even further left and vote NDP? Really? This is a joke right?
No joke. AB has the 2nd most number of LIV’s compared to Morontario.
Ezra Levant – What does the NDP surge mean for Alberta? STUDENTS could be running the province!
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kac4r1yUkO4
Newfbertans eating crow, say it isn’t so. Don’t choke on the crow bones there girls:-))
People are livid at how the corrupt PC party undercut democracy and bought off those filthy, opportunistic, low-life opposition members and then rubbed it in every Albertan’s face with their pathetic , vile excuses. They though that they were immune to any consequences of this foul act. But they were too smart by half, they not only poisoned themselves in the minds of more Albertan’s, they contaminated the Wildrose Party too. That’s the only reason the NDP is where they are.
Let there be no doubt at how rotten to the core the PC party is. They are nothing but a vile confederacy of crony corporate bloodsuckers and filthy provincial bureaucrats sucking all of the massive wealth this province produces for themselves. You can count on them attempting to cheat their way to victory, just like they did last election.
One last thing I forgot to mention in case anyone here has forgotten: the NDP is adamantly OPPOSED to civilian firearm ownership. They believe only the Cops and Military should be allowed to own guns.
It is and always has been part of their platform, they just keep it quiet when it suits them.
So vote NDP,and as said above, say hello to a Provincial sales tax, carbon tax, shutdown of the oil and gas, forestry, mining industries, and lots more “High River” gun thefts.
We had these bu**ers in power in B.C, took a decade to recover.
Excellent news, the sooner the crash comes the faster Canada(Alberta) recovers.
Vote NPD, acknowledge that our current Progressive cons are just statist parasites by another name, so be honest vote for the real thieves.
Who do you support? Kleptocrat 1, Kleptocrat 2 or kleptocrat 3?
You are free to chose, as long as you chose a Klepto.
Best voter decision ever , NPD in Alberta will cause the death of the national theft, AKA Equalization.
So help bring back responsible government across Canada, vote NDP, crash-land the Alberta Economy today.
Back in the 86 election Laurence Decore a former mayor of Edmonton led the AB liberals. AB PC’s had run up massive debits following the 80’s recession. He had a running debt clock that he brought with him to every meeting he attended and placed it at the front of the room and it spun away showing an ever increasing number which apparently represented the accumulating debit . Laurence was a smart guy and would have made a good premier but he was a liberal and a lot of Albertan’s still equated liberals with PET. In any event Decore lost, but not before forming the official opposition and winning every seat in Edmonton. Rachael Notley may experience the same result.
Voters are pissed here but the PC’s have probably gerrymandered the system enough to pull off another win. The bottom line is there is going to be blood shed in the PC party following the election. Big name cab ministers are going to lose their seats. This is not how the game is supposed to be played here and the long knives will be out for Prentice.
If the result is severe enough the WR and PC’s will be forced into merger talks. Probably not the worst thing. The progressives can go to their natural home and AB can have a true conservative party, or a reasonable facsimile.
AN NDP win in Alberta is GREAT NEWS for BC. (Sorry my flatland friends)
Its BC job creation program. (In reality, electing a Dip government is the worst thing that could happen, giving real life meaning to the word, HELLBERTA!)
DanBC >
Absolutely, the bonus for Alberta is that we get to dump the deadwood on other provinces for a change.
Seriously, I’m sick and tired of driving down Hwy #2 bumper to bumper, with ………I’ll keep the rest to myself.
Anyway, this could really work out for true Alberta conservative’s if they’re paying attention and sniffing the wind.
Well, all I am going to say about this is that it is reason #1001, or is it #10001, not to have text enabled on your damn cellphone. If your business life, or your private life, or any other part of your life has facts and/or encounters in it that you prefer the whole world not know about, why in Hell would you use text messaging to work in that sphere, knowing that a permanent record is kept.
See the case of the mattress-back twat at Columbia University for yet another reason why texts are a hand grenade with the pin pulled.
john robertson >
Yea, well for purely moral reasons, one should vote WRP and not directly for the Nazi Duplicate Party.
Indeed an Alberta crash is needed, in fact it’s long overdue and in the unlikely event the NDP ever did “win”, the crash will be inevitable. It’s a moral dilemma.
The point is conservative Albertans should start conserving, If the NDP ever won, boycott spending for all but the necessities. Stop ALL personal donations for both public and private causes, buy big ticket items in neighbouring conservative provinces, etcetera, etcetera……….Bring them down hard, and they will forever be as popular as the Liberal Party.
Need to clean house of the riffraff first.
Nutley is a commie running on her dead husbands name. AB does need her though. She can be a good example of what not to elect. Precision Drilling pulled all their rigs out of AB. after Red Ed brought in his royalty scheme, the revenues dropped from 13 billion a year to 1.6 billion. Yeah. Great move. AB is more Lieberal than Morontario, just to stupid to realize it. I’m voting NDP. The sooner we can crash this province and wake up people, the better. And no, I don’t care about the “children”. They have fu@ked us royally by being government tit suckers. Just look at Iverson, mayor of Redmoton. He makes the muzzie in Calgary look good.
