We Don’t Need No Stinking Giant Fans

Lorrie Goldstein;

Titled “October, 2014, Ontario’s breath-taking, record-breaking month for electricity bills,” Parker and Luft reveal that last month, Premier Kathleen Wynne’s Liberal government paid $1 billion more for electricity than the market value of that power.
Put another way, the so-called “Global Adjustment” in Ontario – the difference between the market value of electricity and what it actually cost to produce – topped $1 billion, for the first time, ever.
For the average Ontario household, Parker and Luft note, that will mean an extra charge of about $30 on November’s hydro bill alone, although it won’t appear as a separate item on many residential hydro bills because the Global Adjustment is incorporated into “time of use” rates.

  1. Wonder how much $1 billon would buy if it was used to buy more teachers, healthcare, public infrastructure or, God forbid, reduce the reckless deficit spending in Ontario.
Or thinking about it the other day way, how much was paid to the many Liberal Party cronies and Greenie carpetbaggers that got the inside track on getting production contracts with huge Feed In Tarrifs and guaranteed payouts?
What a way to drive industry and all the jobs out of Ontario into low cost energy areas in the States.

  2. The only way any of this nonsense is able to come to fruition is through the media hammering home and validating climate alarmism on Joe Average day in and day out.
That includes one Mr Lorrie Goldstein.
He is an advocate of the “science” of AGW. So to complain now is a bit disingenuous.
What did you think would happen Mr. Goldstein if this massive leftist fraud was allowed to be perpetrated?
Start calling it the utter outright fraud that it is and maybe we would not get such stupid policies from government.

  3. From the previous post:
“… it was critical to not be transparent about [Obamacare]’s costs and true effects, and to take advantage of the “stupidity of the American voter” in order to get it passed.”
Change a key word here and there and the same could be said about Ontario.

  4. I don’t know which Lorrie Goldstein you are talking about but the one quoted here is the direct opposite to what you are suggesting.

  5. This winter will be an interesting one for the alarmists to live through. With the ‘polar vortex outbreak’ occurring this week and already setting records in the American Mid-west, we may be witnessing a precursor to the Libby/Pandolfi theory. Justin may be able to offer his Artic Survival expertise to those closer to home. I’m sure that the Obama, Gore fans in the America will welcome all those Hudson Bay blankets courtesy of their Northern neighbours. Perhaps Ms. Wynne can even assist in the aid by sending more cheap energy down to the southern States when the brown outs start, thanks to the generosity of the Ontario taxpayer. We live in interesting times, hopefully saner minds will survive this coming winter and will show up at the polls for next year’s election.

  6. The lefts brave new world of disaster paid by you & me for their failed fantasies. They won’t hurt a bit, just up their salary

  7. Frankly, Scarlett, I don’t give a rat’s patootie if the warmists don’t live through this winter. Could only be a good thing. I’M worried about whether I will live through this winter. I heat with hydro – changing it out at this time is way too much upfront money right now… Last winter was brutal – I don’t see a future in Ontario…

  8. Ontario … Land of Suckers … getting the government and the economy they so richly deserve. Keep voting for those leftist freaks and you will starve to death one day.

  9. No doubt they’ve pissed away enough money on greenwashed ‘renewable energy’ schemes, to build a new state-of-the-art thorium fueled CANDU reactor, that would provide cleaner power for 99% of the time.

  10. ……$30 on November’s hydro bill alone, although it won’t appear as a separate item on many residential hydro bills because the Global Adjustment is incorporated into “time of use” rates.
What an elegant sleight of hand.
    Ain’it?

  11. The Liberals/Progressives have set themselves up quite the racket with this “we can change the weather through taxing the shit out of you” shakedown… The Mafia could learn a thing or two from these sleazy Progs, a cool billion buys a lot of cannoli’s, capice?

  12. Frankly, Skip I wouldn’t waste a Tinker’s Damn on the leftists, Warmists, and Liberals, either but they are inclined to pull the rest of us down into the hole they are intent on creating. If we don’t get out and repudiate the BS that the left has been shovelling for the last forty to fifty years we are going to have to pay a far heavier price than we can ever imagine.

  13. Well….yes. But that’s what happens when the President of the federal wing of Ontario Liberal Party becomes president of a wind generation company, International Power Canada now GDF Suez Canada.

  14. Exactly. I have corresponded with Lorrie a number of times over the last few years about some articles he wrote calling out the misinformation put out by the AGW fraud artists.
The problem is that Lorrie, us and countless other people can complain and decry it all we want but these Gia fraud artists have such a grip on our society with the connivance of most of the media that it will continue on until a large percentage of the people finally get it and rebel. Pretty much all the premiers have either bought into this or are paying lip service to the fraud just to squeeze more tax dollars from our wallets.

  15. Yet Harper gets the goat horns for all Ontario’s woes.
There was a time when the possibility of ceceding from the central/eastern leftists was still real. Not so sure anymore. Albertans are sleepily allowing bureaucrats to chip away at their rights and swallow ever more tax dollars.
Ontarians could be the first to witness a bankruptcy.

  16. The trouble with the idiots in Ontario is that they burdened the hard working sane people that happen to live here with a corrupt government and debt that cannot be repaid. A billion here, a billion there, another billion to buy a couple of electoral seats, it’s all money they don’t have. Hell, Whynnie the Bag even threw millions towards the Ebola mess.
Lately, they even announce they would charge a service fee for fishing, hunting licenses and the outdoor card. Yeah, only in Ontario do you get to buy a card in order to do outdoor type stuff.
I’d move in a heartbeat except for the fact that:
    – I have parents in their golden years to take care of, and
    – Northwestern Ontario is actually beautiful country and good fishing.

  17. I watched a press conference by the union leader of the Toronto transit system yesterday where he indicated that the mess Toronto transit is in is the responsibility of the Feds and they are going to make it an election issue next year. How the h^ll is this the reponsibility of the feds?

  18. This is what Ontario Liberals wanted and why they must be confronted. It’s all very well and good to call X politician stupid or corrupt but what does that say about those who elected them?
The next time someone complains about their high bills, remind them who they voted for.

  19. Uh….Mr. Goldstein has been a vehement critic of Global Warming propaganda. I think you know not what you speak of.

  20. Lev, don’y you just love and embrace those two words “global adjustment”. the people of Ontario are now adjusting the globe. what freaking stupidity is that?

  21. On the plus side, Ontario, by being the Uber-Progressive Beacon for the rest of Canada has demonstrated once again the failure of the leviathan state where politicians with green theocracy mandates have succeeded in bankrupting Canada’s largest provincial economy. If only the ROC can learn from such accomplishment. Their provincial logo should be: Ontario – the Green Rent Seekers paradise, leading Canada back into the dark ages, one Wind Farm at a time.
