Phil Robertson – 1, Media Industrial Complex – 0.

So…

[A]fter discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.

Of course, it will escape the notice of GLAAD and their supporters that they live in a country already so tolerant that, until now, they believed they held the majority viewpoint.

  1. My words from December 23 2013
“I suspect that the A&E execs are crazy like a fox. About the only thing this little episode is going to do is increase the ratings for DD. Well that and give A&E’s pets aka GLAAD and the queer bashers a chance to spew some venom at each other. In a few weeks Phil will be back and it is unlikely that production will even miss a beat.”
Am I surprised at this news?

  2. The folks at GLAAD will call this one a win. They’ll say, “We successfully drew attention to the bigotry and intolerance at the bottom of ‘Duck Dynasty’, and A&E’s change of position was not a result of conservative pressure, but rather indicated they felt their point had been made.”
Really, the Robertson family should be hunting up a new network affiliation. Having collapsed to extremist pressure from a tiny faction group (how many people does GLAAD really represent? It’s not all the LGBT’s in the USA; many of them took issue with GLAAD’s actions. An actual member count would be interesting – and then compare that to DD viewership numbers…) it’s all too likely that the same thing will happen again – next time it might be CAIR, or NAACP – anyone who must ensure anything opposing their viewpoint never sees the light of day.

  3. Joey, I agree that the Robertson clan should be looking for a new network. If it happens once, it may well happen again.
Overall this is good news. I may have to start watching their program just to spite GLAAD.

  4. So what were the homosexual views aired on Little Mosque on the Prairie?
Never watched the show, but I have a hard time believing they supported gay rights.
    LAS?

  5. It’s always a good question as to how many people these activist organizations really represent. I believe it’s only a very vocal minority of the minority they claim to speak for.
I know several gay people, and none belong to any of the activist groups like GLAAD,GALE, or any of the others. No gays that I know would ever take part in a “pride” parade either, and in fact, shudder at the thought of those annual deviates-on-display events the media apparently love so much. A lot of gay people are quite conservative, although the MSM never would admit that.
I’ll have to make a point of watching “Duck Dynasty” just to see what it’s all about.

  6. We are reading his book “Happy, Happy, Happy”
Pretty sure A&E need Phil more than he needs them. The man is very content, and was reluctant to go with the ‘reality’ show in the first place.

  7. I’d like to know how many corporations are financing GLAAD’s campaign of hate by contributions made directly, or through Tides Foundation- like money-laundering outfits, so they appear to have clean hands.
I expect many US corporations would go broke from the resulting boycotts, if people found out that their money was being used to finance radical causes they completely oppose.
A good place to start might be Wells Fargo Bank, which apparently gives cash to GLAAD.

I want DD to stay on A&E forever now!
Phil and the clan are in the face of the lefty sniveling twits now.
I want them to stay there and make a ton of money off of A&E and their sponsors.
Forget about the lame excuse of an apology from A&E. Not only did they have to backtrack, but they got told what type of content their viewers want. Screw the programing director!
The lefty execs, GLADD, Al Sharpton et al picked this fight and just before Christmas too.
Well they got pwnd big time on this one.
    The worm finally turned.
I want A&E to have to eat this one.
And I want them to keep eating it for another couple of seasons.
    You go Phil!!

  9. This excerpt from A & E’s sniveling statement confirms the Robertson’s should find a network less craven than A & E. Their main concern seems to be keeping GLAAD happy. I wonder if they are slipping a bit of cash to them directly, or on the sly, as well:
” So after discussions with the Robertson family, as well as consulting with numerous advocacy groups, A&E has decided to resume filming Duck Dynasty later this spring with the entire Robertson family.
We will also use this moment to launch a national public service campaign (PSA) promoting unity, tolerance and acceptance among all people, a message that supports our core values as a company and the values found in Duck Dynasty. These PSAs will air across our entire portfolio. ”
What greater proof does anyone need of Hollywood’s hatred of their audience, than ” PSA’s ” telling their viewers they are a bunch of intolerant bigots? It’s time for the Robertson’s to find greener pastures.

  10. I finally watched an episode of Duck Dynasty the other night. yikes.
Seems like a blend marriage of Keeping Up With the Kardashians and Moonshiners, with a touch of Pawn Stars thrown in for good measure (not exactly sure who Chumlee is played by…)
Now I understand its popularity. Hicks see that they can get beautiful women. Women see that they can be rich and suffer a hick. Christians love it because… well, they’ll watch anything that’s got christian in it….
    Then, there’s Si’s ageless wisdom….
Nonetheless, I have to say that I respect Phil. Sharp guy, and he stands up for his beliefs. Good for him.
A&E stands up for what they believe in too. Money.

  11. A real blow to political correctness when millions show their contempt for A&E who thought they were backing the the right cause and were proud of supporting everything perverted. The basic message sent was that we can only handle so much of this crap so don’t push your luck. The last thing they expected was the straw that broke the camel’s back belonging to a religious redneck with moral standards and a mind of his own. Thanks to Phil Robertson it was a very good week. Next, I wish we could send the same message to a lot of politically correct Mayors to let them know how we really feel about pride parades.

  12. My, ‘seems like it was only days ago that an anonymous spokesdroid from A&E was explaining that he got suspended because they did not want to disrespect gay employees. In light of the cave, could this be turning into a hostile work environment?

  13. So, Phil Robertson gets interviewed by GQ, who ask him what he thinks about homosexuality. He tells them, and they publish a transcript of his answers to their questions. Why doesn’t GLAAD attack GQ? After all, it is they who have chosen to disseminate the “hateful” material. Instead, they go after A&E, where AFAIK none of this material has ever appeared. Hmmmm.

  14. Publicity stunt. Pure and simple. Watch for “Papa Phil Goes to LGBT Sensitivity Training Class”, first episode, next season.
If the Robertson’s weren’t a household name before this, they sure are now…

  15. I do not subscribe to the notion that all is well if an adversary begrudgingly removes the knife they have plunged into one’s back.
Although direct reaction against A&E is difficult, Cracker Barrel is certainly vulnerable to and worthy of a crippling consumer backlash.

  16. If GLAAD had said that Robertson was entitled to his opinion, explained why they disagreed with it, and then forgot about the whole thing, they would have come off appearing like it was beneath their notice and thus projecting an aura of strength rather than one of weakness.

  17. Cracker barrel backtracked as soon as the ship hit the fan. They turned their back on the gay cartel and put all their Duck Dynasty tokens back on the shelves within a couple of days. Couldn’t take the heat over thousands of emails stating they would go eat somewhere else. Actually the chain was never gay friendly. They were just swept up with A&E’s pretend outrage.

  18. They should get their own Network as Glen Beck did.
Nothing can compare to real freedom from would be tyrants.

  19. Then, there’s Si’s ageless wisdom.

    I love his nephews comments.
    “After listening to Si,
you would think he won the Vietnam War all by himself.”
Here is a personal invitation to all the Liberal, Progressive, Hair-headed Gay Activists that would love to put an end to the Duck Dynasty productions.
Come on down to the Louisiana swamps,
wade out into knee deep brown river mud, with its mosquitoes, crocodiles, poison snakes, and quick sand,
we will see how long your protest signs remain in an upright position..

  20. ….. I’d love to see Duck Dynasty bail from A&E and get even bigger. Not that I’d watch it, but just because the bottom line is that they really do stand for traditional values that this country could stand a return to.
What is interesting given your invitation, is that one thing lacking in the TV show is the heat & humidity.
Unfortunately, said protestors will likely be more prone to tubing down the Tickfaw than braving a swamp with their signs.
Fortunately for me, I got to enjoy the Tickfaw long before it was popular. 6 hours and never saw another soul. 🙂

  21. As Ed Driscoll points out (including a shoutout to our Kate) not a lot to celebrate here.
This is “free speech” for people with a large following, in this instance one that trumps Gladd’s.
This reversal has absolutely nothing to so with free speech.
He provides an interesting analogy citing a couple of TV/Film stars who could only come out of the conservative closet after achieving a critical mass fan base: Kelsey Grammer and Jon Voight.

  22. Let’s not be naive:
GLAAD walked away from this with big reparation$, in cash or in kind.
Just another shakedown of the “Human Rights Commission” variety.
Because they do not produce a needed product or service, GLAAD has nothing to lose. They cannot be boycotted or otherwise bankrupted.
Now, if something were to happen to their tax exempt status…
That’s the only thing they risk and the risk is close to zero.

  23. U mean like acorn, or would that be “ACORN-USED-TO-BE”
try sticking to writing about “stars” and singers
