If you’re like most Canadians, you probably don’t know much about Australia’s new Prime Minister, Tony Abbott. Consider this column (audio discussion of the same) by journalist Simon Kent to be an excellent primer. James Delingpole explains the two paths that Abbott can now take.
Tony Abbott sounds like a true, unapologetic conservative who isn’t afraid to tell Leftists that much of what they spew is bile. Look for outbreaks of “Abbott Derangement Syndrome” (ADS) in the very near future!
Hope his record on the property rights front turns out to be a hell of a lot of a lot better than Harper’s.
He has two primary do-firsts….kill the CO2 tax,and privatize the ABC. Property right should naturally follow next. If you are watching,PMSH,hope you learn from what he does or doesn’t do.

The beauty of Abbot is that ADS has been in full swing for years but he just ignores it. He isn’t apologetic about his views, but he also points out exactly what he will be doing for the country and how it will help. There’s a great article by John O’Sullivan in NRO this week about what conservatives can learn from his success.

It always surprises me how many conservatives think that given time and argument that progressives will ‘see the light’. The fact that conservatives do a poor job with the argument or that they listen to those voices that suggest ‘slow but steady’ change confounds me. IMO Stephen Harper still deserves the benefit of the doubt but conservatives should realize the gamble he is taking.
The shear volume of $’s consumed by government or those who work for government grows unabated from my view. Progressives continue their dominance of education, health care, the public sector and the media as exemplified by the CBC. I am not in the loop anymore but it appears Harper’s political strategy is centered on economic growth and management of debt. The caution should be that people tend to support left wing BS more when they feel secure financially. Perhaps the better the job Harper does the more at risk he becomes of defeat.

That statement has merit. Look what happened to Ontario; the engine of Canada’s economy has been humbled in less than a generation and it all started with the voters taking the path of least resistance.
Congratulations to Mr. Abbott and a ditto to CT above. Stronger measures need to be taken to reverse the steady push of the left.
I pray that Messrs.’ Abbott, Cameron and Harper realize the importance of forging stronger links among the Dominions. With the current buffoon in the White House and the general malaise in the United States, this relationship will probably take on greater importance in the years to come.

You nailed it on the head, CT. When every penny counts voters scrutinize their choices more carefully. When times are good they don’t even bother to vote. If Canadians paid as much attention to politics as they do to hockey the lefties would be a fringe party.
LAS, there are very few countries in the world with a AAA credit rating and Canada is one of them. The budget will be balanced in 2015. It would have been sooner but Stephane Dion and Jack Layton, both Keynesian Koolaid imbibers, demanded increased spending when the Tories were a minority. Remember when they teamed up with the Bloc Quebecois to force an election two months after the 2008 election?

1) Tory spending was already out of control by then 2) That stimulus spending has not been reveresed at all 3) If Harper didn’t want responsibility for it he should have called an election.
