The off-duty cop was ON DUTY as a security guard at the theatre.

The U.S. has a problem with armed lunatics,so the obvious answer is to put armed cops/soldiers/security guards in all vulnerable venues.

IMO, with all this crap going on it almost seems plausible for people to just disobey the gun laws and start packing. Going to jail for sparing the lives of many is honorable, no?
My wife also agrees with this opinion.
I realize for most of the time we all pretty much enjoy a peaceful and safe life, but a little peacemaker in the pocket levels the playing field between the innocent and the criminals more often than not; and lets not forget are well known failed justice system.

Against better judgement I went to CBC’s news page. Obama and the assault weapons ban is the first story, followed by a bunch of other pro-control stories, supported by graphs that exclude places such as Russia, Brazil, Switzerland…
In a year or so I’m moving to a third world country. I won’t miss the CBC.

Sure do,until they throw them off a wharf in Halifax,and bring out the white flags.They have it in their anthem,but that is the only place.

When I first moved to Texas I thought it was strange to see a uniformed and armed cop in a movie theater but after a while I couldn’t help but notice that the lobby wasn’t a hangout with groups or gangs disrupting or harassing the clientele. A polite group of movie goers was the norm down there. Real or not, I felt safer bringing my wife to a movie in a town I wasn’t used to.
btw, down there off-duty cops are in uniform and packing which pretty much lets everyone know who be da boss.
Nothing new under the sun! Long before “guns”… 25 percent of the worlds poulation was wiped out because of what Regan, Bush and yes even Obama called “evil”. They all in their hearts know where the truth lies.

As I keep saying . Armed individuals did most of the Policing directed by criminals at them. That keeping people from self defense would sound ludicrous to most of human history . Particularly using Police by banning an individuals right to carry arms. It was not till the 19th century in London that police even existed. Though ex military was hired in most civilizations to potrol the nights. As well be fire men.
The Army was used against insurections, not what has become mainly tax collecters.
Obama, showing his usual “leadership” is looking for gun policies to deal with recent incidents. Here`s my input (disclaimer: while ex military, I am not a hunter or target shooter):
Ban or greatly restrict military assault rifles of 5.56 calibre or higher, with special emphasis on automatic weapons, along with 30 round magazines. Leave hunters and target shooters alone, they are not the problem.
Perhaps some hunters could correct me as to why a hunter needs a fully automatic assault rifle. If this offends survivalists, oh well. Interested in others opinions on this.

As to why a hunter would need a semi-auto: about thirty years ago my Uncle,WW2 veteran, excellent shot,was hunting moose up the Bowron River. He came on a grizzly about a hundred yards away,it charged. He fired his 30-06 Browning,180 gr bullets,emptied the clip into it.
The animal fell dead about ten feet in front of him. Later examination showed he’d hit it with every one of the ten shots in his clip.
Had we been “restricted” to the current 5-shot sophistry, he would have been five shots short his life.

There are 101 ways other than guns to comit mass murder in our society for someone intent on doing so. There are very few means for law abiding citizens to protect themselves.
Especially the elderly, or otherwise frail people.
