  1. I think these results are awesome.
    True Conservative has won out in Calgary. The only thing the results show is that the Clark Red Tories in Calgary Centre abandoned the ship when the CPC got a principled Conservative candidate.
    Durham is great results and the 51% vote is great. O’Toole will make a much better M.P. than Red Tory Oda.
    and Victoria. If the Greens can pull this one out all I can say is Mulcair better keep his back to the wall. Because Victoria is supposed to be one of their seats that they think they have a right to hold kinda like Winnipeg North was. Also Liberals get shut out. 😀

  2. I don’t think you can read anything into the Victoria results. Trust me I live here and people who don’t live in the suburbs are bat crazy. Completely nuts. You think Vancouver is filled with them you have no idea. Perfect example was the tree incident recently where a diseased tree that the city wanted to cut down was “saved” by the tree huggers so that it can be blown onto someone’s house next wind storm.

    Green strength means that the NDP and the Shiny Pony Party will have to try and out nut Ms. May…a challenge indeed.
    The Conservatives can carry on being boring knowing that, with a little push, the Greens will split the “Progressive” vote like an axe to a pumpkin.

    Any city populace that thinks dumping 100’s of thousands of liters of untreated sewage into the ocean is a good thing while at the same time complaining about a little carbon dioxide has to be bats**t crazy.
    But imagining the temper tantrum that the Mulcair Dipwads are going to have is making me giddy.
    Listening to the lefties rant on the boards about how its only democracy if they win will give me mechanical laughter tomorrow.

  10. James & Paul: I lived in Victoria between 1997-2001. I moved there to setup a small software company. Bad, bad mistake.
    As a single guy, I tried dating several women there. Most worked for the government and had an entitlement mentality on steroids. I’ll never forget the female teacher I spoke with. She BRAGGED about the fact that she could tell her boss to F-off and NOTHING could ever happen to her. Contrast this with yours truly struggling to build a fledgling company.
    Just a snapshot of why I left and will never move back there.

    I’ll gloat back, sort of — when us dumb ass (“were you born stupid, did you achieve stupid, or was stupid thrust upon you”) Ontarians vote 51%, and the riding next door to the PM votes 37%, with a very low voter turn-out and 26% for the “Greens”, seems to me that the PM needs to do some fixin’.
    As Miss Roberts used to say, “No time to go wobbly”, particularly when we’re doin’ all we can…

  13. By-elections are notoriously a protest vote and mainly send a message to Ottawa to let the politicians know that the voters are still out there.

  14. Nevermind the sewage plant thing although that is pretty insane all around. There is a movement underfoot to spend 1 billion dollars on a train to go about 10 kilometers to a suburb of the city with a population of 30,000 people. Most of the people it would serve don’t work downtown, they work at the base or in construction all over the place. It’s all the drugs I think.

    Lee Richardson, the guy who abandoned his riding is a red tory, Joe Clarke is Liberal, federally and our Mayor seems to always open his mouth because he thinks he is so important.
    Considering those challenges, Joan deserves a medal.

  28. I thought Alberta was a watermelon free zone? There’s something very strange going on when a Conservative in Alberta gets less than 60% of the vote. OTOH, there appear to be a few sane people in parts of Ontario.
    Then there’s Victoria. All I have to say about that result is that continental drift is happening far too slowly.

Now how many think this silence from the Mother Corps would have played out like this if the Conservatives had lost and the the Dauphin’s party (because they have already given it to him) had won??

  32. @james…I’m surprised that no one who has had a tree fall on their house or heaven forbid a tree fall on their car while a family member is inside it sue the people who are responsible for that tree. I would name every person involved in stopping the municipality from cutting the tree including the judge. Here in Ottawa, the greenies kept the municipality from fixing a sink-hole it identified early on…until after the breeding season for some fish in the area…well the sink-hole opened up during rush hour and dropped a car 10 feet–fortunately the driver survived. Time to stop the crazies from running our lives.

  34. Don’t underestimate the radical left when it comes to scheming, particularly for elections. Yes they’re nut jobs, but they’ve also heard of vote splitting, and will formally organize the parties to avoid that(isn’t that how May was elected?) You know, I’ll back off this riding, if you back off that riding. They will likely support candidates that have a more normal outward appearance( like Anita Dunn, Arne Duncan, Van Jones etc.) They will go to those limits to defeat CPC candidates, and the media will help them. The MSM in Canada has witnessed just how far to the left US media has moved and has seen just what they’ve been able to get away with in the “States”, that same approach will be coming soon to a TV station near you. If you think it’s bad now, just wait till the next election!

  35. That Victoria race is something. It should be an NDP shoe-in, but, seeing the Green so close, is really a repudiation of the current version of the Mulcair NDP. And of the Pony, as this used to be a Liberal riding, David Anderson’s. If Pony had some traction, it would have shown here. Alas not.
    That riding is next door, and is thoroughly a leftwing moonbat area (as is mine). Retired and current civil servants, university students, alt-lifestyle types, and welfarians, as well as the champagne socialist crowd. People completely conditioned to government ‘solving’ everything, its just a matter of other peoples money.
    Yes James, that railway issue is ridiculous, is it not? It’s a bunch of old male socialists, trying to play with trains, reliving their childhood at other peoples expense. There’s a reason VIA walked away from this, its a big money pit. That’s not stopping Graham Bruce, or Graham Hill. Which one of them will wear the conductor’s hat? Its such a ridiculous route to take, and very costly, but that never stopped any good bureaucrat. Bruce has been successful, because no leftwing politico wants to be seen against any form of mass transit, so they’ve thrown money at this project. And remember, this is also a means to an end, for these same politicos to keep pursuing LRT, another huge waste of taxpayer dollars. This area just isn’t big enough to support these dreams of the left.
    Why do I stay? A damn good job in the private sector…….

    They obviously glass ceiling half empty folks don’t think much of a woman in politics unless ‘it’ is a feminist human rights lawyer.
    Also things might be a little frosty for Nenshi on his perpetual schmooze junket. He burned bridges with a lot of Federal MP’s. Not going to help Nenshi much when he goes cap in hand to the feds for his civic special interest groups.

  40. I look at these results as being very good for the CPC and Canada and extremely bad for Justin Trudeau. The riding was trending to the Liberals until Trudeau intervened and put a stop to that. Durham was never really in danger of turning but Trudeau still managed to turn it into a CPC landslide. The Libs were hoping to gain in Victoria but Trudeau once again dragged them to a very distant 4th.

    While I am pleased Mrs Crockatt won I wouldn’t go quite that far. The Liberals were surging quite strongly and if it weren’t for Trudeau it just might have gone Liberal.

  44. I suppose any election can be construed as a warning to the government,if they didn’t win big in all Ridings,but on the bright side the Conservatives DID take 2 of 3 byelections.
    That’s good,especially as it appears Justin Trudeau’s fans are restricted to juvenile females and Reporters.
    Justin Trudeau LOST three byelections, no matter how you perceive the results, JT FAILED!
    Perhaps this is an indication of more people having grown up and refusing to follow the MSM’s teeny-bopper mentality.
    This can only be good for the Country.

  45. Crockatt’s win is great news but the results are very puzzling.
    Two prominent Liberals recently showed their utter disdain for Alberta and despite some creative backpedalling, half-assed apologies and a massive effort by the media to downplay the whole thing, the general view of Alberta by Liberals was quite evident. Yet they still managed to garner 33% of the vote. Add to this the Liberals’ penchant for looting the treasury whenever given the chance as compared to strong, steady, scandal-free government by the Conservatives and the vote count is even more of a surprise.
    Equally puzzling is the fact that a fringe party with all the credibility of the Rhinocerous Party and a well-known hatred for anything resource- related managed 26% of the vote.
    Strange happenings indeed in Calgary.

    Can one of you political mavens tell me where the NDP went FROM in popular vote in the last general election? I think I saw that they went down TO 3.8% of the popular vote which is “don’t get your deposit back” terriTORY. Again, my question is what per cent of the popular vote did the NDP have in the last general election in the Calgaryriding. I want to know how much I should like Mulcair for destroying NDP support in the west. I await a response from my betters.

  48. @biffyjr – Not really surprising. A few things:
    A lot of the Green vote was disaffected Torys in the riding who didn’t like Crockatt. I voted in the nominating process for the first time ever and there was a lot of nastiness under the surface. Not sure if you’re in Calgary or not but there is a real civil war going on in “C”onservative ranks between Wildrose and Tory supporters.
    Second, Calgary Centre is an odd riding. Right downtown (where I live), you have a lot of retirees in pricey condos, young professionals, families and lots of young people in high rises and walkups. Even out in Tory strongholds like Mount Royal, Elbow Park, etc., you have a lot of limousine liberals.
    And, remember, a lot of people out here who vote Liberal don’t like Alberta or Calgary either.

  49. biffjr – Up close the Calgary Center result was not really surprising, as a matter of fact I didn’t expect Joan to win. Here’s why:
    It was a by-election with no real national consequences. An ideal opportunity for the aggrieved left.
    Calgary Center encompasses the provincial riding of Calgary/Buffalo, where Liberals have been elected in 6 of the last 8 provincial elections.
    The Liberal candidate Harvey Locke is widely respected and has a high profile.
    Joan Crockatt aligned herself with the WRA during last springs provincial election, pissing off red tories and hard core lefties alike.
    The seat was vacated by a red tory.
    Lefty Mayor Nenshi interjected himself into the campaign, criticizing Crockatt for not attending candidate debates. He tweeted about her being ” The Pink Elephant not on the room”. I had a little fun with hizzhonor last night on twitter when he congratulated Crockatt…Pink Elephant in Parliament?
    Voter turnout was below 30%, a number that benefits the perpetually aggrieved lefties.
    Joan worked very hard to win this thing given the forces and circumstances aligned against her. IMHO these results mean virtually nothing nationally.

Aside from their moonbat policies the island’s a great place to live away from all the nutjobs and gangsters in Vancouver. Thankfully very few mainlanders have figured out what a waste their life is while waiting in 2 hour long traffic jams.
