Loved it. Romney is presidential, and obviously prepared to take on the job. His humor rivals that of Bob Hope.

I think Dick Morris’ political acumen is good, but he’s got to know some history too. This is uncannily similar to what Reagan did to Carter. And for the same reasons.

I agree, Romney was just funny and seemed to enjoy chunking those zingers at Team Obama.
On another note, WTH are ya’ll doing out heya at 1:00, 2:00, 3:00 and 4:00 AM posting ? Damn Vampires.

Hey, Ken, you’re most welcome. I don’t know when I’ve enjoyed a roast more! Romney was really on the bit. I figure he should make Dennis Miller the Court/White House Jester. A lot of those zingers — delivered with Bob Hope’s timing — were quite likely contributed by Miller. They make a good team, don’t they?!

The morning following this, about 16 minutes into his radio show, Dennis Miller made some very coy comments about the great jokes Romney told. He didn’t come right out and say that he was the author but I seriously suspect that he was … at least of some of them.

Romndey’s delivery(and even his voice to a lesser extent) reminds me very much of Bob Hope.

Your comments, along with those of others who mentioned the confidence, the Bob Hope style, and the shades of Reagan (in particular) are all correct — in any sale, a series of attempted closes always happen, and this was clearly a big one for Mitt, which he used to tremendous effect (that’d be the professional business experience coming through).
I was initially pleasantly surprised on account of the humour. The lasting impression, though, which has grown, is due to his graciousness at the end of the speech — he was genuinely kind to Obama, heart-felt in his praise for the Foundation and the compassion that motivates its work and believably sincere in associating himself with the spirit of the event (and, given Mitt’s generosity, we know that his comments weren’t just a form of words).
The last part of his speech conveyed something about Mitt that Obama has never been able to put across, despite the legendary efforts of others to try to fabricate on Barry’s behalf — that the United States is going to be a more unified and purposeful place after Mitt Romney becomes President. Which is why Mitt will achieve a comfortable victory two weeks from Tuesday. As TJ says, put paid to that one.
