  1. Regarding Kweebeck Kommy Separatiste and his backwater province inhabited by welfare cases with a false sense of importance, a certain song, usually performed at the end of their stage act comes to mind. Of course I’m referring to comedy genius of McLean and McLean.
Fans of the McLean brothers will certainly know the two word title to this song!

  2. Cut Quebec/Quebeckie off. It’s that simple.
And it’s Eamonn de Valera. If you’re going to go on yet ANOTHER anti-Catholic rant, Dick Slater, at least get something right.

  3. So, the commie pinko Marxist Separitistbot wanted cameras turned off as she pledged allegiance to the Congenitally Retarded and Exalted Plutocrat Queen Elizabeth, Queen of Canada.
This reminds me of Senator John Kerry throwing some other dudes medals down the toilet.
    Such courage and conviction.

  4. I’m surprised that nobody has mentioned another advantage of Quebec separating – taking most of the NDP caucus along with them.

  5. I rather be poor and francophone than rich and anglophone. Case closed.

Me too, I wish that for you.

Oh, so you won’t mind if Canada stops sending your new independent state that eight billion bucks every year then, right? Since you’ve now stopped giving us the finger and started p1ssing on us, that seems to be what you want.
Don’t call us when you’re hungry, dipperboy.

  7. How did the French culture survive unto this day?
    The Plains of Abraham.
It dwindles because the Quebecois are aborting themselves out of existence or sending away whoever survives elsewhere.
    Think about that, Quebeckie.

  8. Osumashi Kinyobe:
    1. The abortion rate in Quebec is not so much higher than elsewhere in the world.
    2. There is no mass exodus of francophone from Quebec. just a few thousands per years. Many are coming back.
The population of Quebec keep growing.
We survived because we are proud.

  9. What hegsactly iz dis culture, may I hask? Of what does she consist?

  10. phil, where is your rant about Quebec’s freeloading farmers? Or is it just Western Canadian farmers you criticize?

  11. spitting mad Albertan here Q. I pay alot of taxes, 1/3 of my paycheque is deducted before I even see it. I spit on quebecndp. if you don’t like it then flick off. you are the elephant in the room, the ugly redheaded stepchild. its over. leave.

  12. You didn’t survive because you are proud. You survived because you got lucky.
The world doesn’t live in Quebec, does it, Quebeckie? You have a population of nearly eight million. How many are not Quebecois? Don’t worry- I’ll help you out with that. Ten to fifteen percent of the Quebec population is foreign-born, with the Muslim population (decidedly un-Quebecois)being the second highest in all of Canada. With Quebecois women leaving or just not having children:
    http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/02/08/quebec-is-losing-population-clout-census-suggests/
… you’re in no position to be cocky.

Now now, let’s not be hasty. Let’s not rule anything out.

  15. Phantom, “of you standing with one hand out for more money, while the other hand gives us the finger”, well said.
    Kate @ 8:48, agreed.

  16. Osumashi Kinyobe :
You are full of bullshit, you are reading too much Mark Steyn.
Personally I have no problem with foreign born population in Quebec as long as they learn french.
If they don’t want to learn french, I wish them to leave for elsewhere in Canada.
Muslim population is just about 3% of Quebec. Many of them are francophone BTW. I welcome them. They enrich Quebec.
A guy like Amir Khadir (Iran born) of Quebec Solidaire is a hero to me.

  17. ET: I don’t know what you are talking about, there are no bank headquarter in Montreal. They all left for Toronto in the 70s;

Good Grief! What culture are you talking about? I lived in Quebec for years. Especially in the small towns and rural areas, Elvis Presley and donning american-style cowboy garb was de rigeur. Quebec’s only identifiable contribution to “culture” appears to be pouring cheese curds onto french fried potatos and calling it poutine.
    What else have you developed?
Having travelled extensively in France for numerous years, even the French consider you as a bunch of buffoons who are inbred, xenophopic, culturally ignorant and cannot even speak French properly.
So Please…educate us as to Quebec’s contribution to culture (and the Montreal Canadiens don’t count…they have always been owned by anglos).

  19. quebec kulture. hmmm.

  20. Dick Slater writes about:”…the pequiste members of the National Assembly, whose loyalty is allegedly to their fantasy Catholic republic …”
This leads me to wonder if Mr Slater has been sleeping with Rip van Winkle (not that there’s anything wrong with that). Pequistes may be republicans, they may not care much for English people, but they are more hostile to Catholics than they are to Protestants and Jews. They are somewhat bi-polar when it comes to Muslims, whose religion they don’t care much for but are a source of French-speakers that they are incapable or unwilling to produce themselves.

  21. There seems to be a part of the Que population that has been insulated much to their own detriment.
Because they have never had to feel the full brunt of assimilation due to federal funding for cultural programs, or provincial programs maintained to the detriment of infrastructure, they don’t understand what real independence will do to the province of Quebec.
There are a plethoria of international, and interprovincial agreements that would need renegotiation, but until Quebec can get international recognition those negotiations would be put on hold. Failure to reach an agreement would force Quebecers to declare themselves still part of Canada to benefit from same, which by doing so would nullify their demand to be recognized as independant.
It would allow everyone else to do to Quebec, what Quebec has been doing for generations.
So please, make our day, declare independence from Canada.

  22. Sorry, just a correction to my post last evening — The Constitution Act, 1982, which commenters seem to know, is the former British North American Act, 1867, plus the Charter, amending formula, etc. My reference to the Constitution Act, 1867, was incorrect — should have been 1982 (oddly, the consolidation references 1867). The Oath of Allegiance has not changed in 145 years.
I’m glad to see that Kate and others are in agreement with Quebecois NPD separatiste that Quebec should go. I can confidently report that that would be the end of the agreement on that subject…
At this point, I don’t know that Canada should be setting minimum demands for Quebec staying in Confederation, but if anybody’s in the mood, I have two: a) how about voting for some politicians who aren’t kooks (Mulcair, Layton, Marois, Parizeau, etc.; although, I have to say, I found Gilles Duceppe rather endearing in an old-great-uncle-who-fought-in-the-Charge-of-the-Light-Brigade sort of way); and b) implementation of a corruption-free, efficiency- and results-based economy that doesn’t depend on Canada for its subsistance (read, how about letting M. Legault have a chance?). In this regard, if my friend Steve was smart and had no principles (sadly, in this context, only one condition holds), he’d let Quebec drown in the long-gun registry just to prove a point — and I hear that SNC Lavalin has just the skill set needed to achieve the desired result…
Which brings me back to the weird story which is the subject of this SDA post: does Pauline really believe that’s she’s TMZ material? I find her to be like Dos Equis’s “The World’s Most Interesting Man”, who in “real” life supports Obama (sort of an oxymoron — four syllables — isn’t it?). I have to say, she reminds me of a twenty-nine year old going out on her first date, but doesn’t want her suitor to know that her mother still cleans her bottom…

  23. Mme. Marois is worried about symbolism. Here’s one for the PQ. The first British governor after the conquest was a guy named Guy Carlton. His orders were to deport French officials, priests and all local notables. He was also ordered to make English the language of the courts and the law. He ignored most of these orders and kept the civil code, the French language and the Church. That’s why Quebec is a linguistic nation within Canada, today. By the way, Carlton’s title was Lord Dorchester and Dorchester Blvd. in Montreal was named after him. The PQ changed the name to Boul. Rene Levesques. See what sort of trouble you get into when you forget your history?

  25. I propose that all future transfer payments from the Government of Canada to the Province of Quebec be made in cash – $20 bills. Let’s see them hide the Queen then.

  26. “..minimum demands for… staying in Confederation… b) implementation of a corruption-free, efficiency- and results-based economy that doesn’t depend on Canada for its subsistance.” Hell we don’t even ask that of provinces who are loyal, and I am concerned that the current Government of Alberta will fail in this regard soon as well.

  27. Quebec – Detroit – Africa – same parasitic problem, different geographical locations.
If we stopped feeding them they would be forced to work or die for survival.
We need to cut all welfare to the dregs on our society.

  28. Here’s a novel idea – let’s beat the PQ with their own stick … let the ROC have a referendum on whether we want Quebec as part of the Union.

  29. Osumashi said: “With Quebecois women leaving or just not having children, you’re in no position to be bold.”
Oh yeah he’s feeling that one, left a mark it did. Especially considering how many he knows are leaving La Belle Province to be strippers in Alberta. Bwaha!
