  1. Which holds us in more contempt? Politicians, or MSM editors?
    Clearly, Obama is lying. The calculus can only be that it is better to lie and paper over the original statement, than to take ownership of the statement and carry on. We won’t notice, or care about the lie.
    Trust is what facilitates government, finance, and media. All three have been working hard to shred it.
    When trust fails – the carrot – what remains to motivate “us” is the stick. Perhaps going long on bulldozers is not such a bad investment after all.

  7. As stated earlier, in the strictest literal sense, due to poor sentence structure, he was taken out of context in that particular speech.
    The now famous “You didn’t build that” (which assurely could be a rap title) referred to the roads and bridges not to the businesses immediately preceeding it.
    If he was smarter, he’d have explained the right’s distortion. Simply saying “out of context” is akin to a “cheque’s in the mail” or “I’m not running again ‘cos I want to spend more time with my family” which hopefully he will be! A very nice guy spending more time with his perfectly lovely family!
    BUT, of course, it’s perfectly aligned with the BIGGER CONTEXT which is hatred, envy, class warfare, “redistributive justice”.
    Have to say I’m thrilled to be totally vindicated on my very early assessment of his marxism. I always found it amusing to see how many A-list conservative pundits couldn’t see this or admit it. Admit that America could really be the victim of a commie coup.
    Nothing amuses me more than hearing him described as a standard issue liberal.

  10. me no dhimmi – ah well, I guess I’ll disagree with you. This is what Obama said:
    “There are a lot of wealthy, successful Americans who agree with me — because they want to give something back. They know they didn’t — look, if you’ve been successful, you didn’t get there on your own. You didn’t get there on your own. I’m always struck by people who think, well, it must be because I was just so smart. There are a lot of smart people out there. It must be because I worked harder than everybody else. Let me tell you something — there are a whole bunch of hardworking people out there. (Applause.)
    If you were successful, somebody along the line gave you some help. There was a great teacher somewhere in your life. Somebody helped to create this unbelievable American system that we have that allowed you to thrive. Somebody invested in roads and bridges. If you’ve got a business — you didn’t build that. Somebody else made that happen. The Internet didn’t get invented on its own. Government research created the Internet so that all the companies could make money off the Internet.”
    Obama didn’t refer to ‘roads and bridges’ when he said ‘somebody else made that happen’. Your analysis that Obama meant that IF you have a business, THEN, you didn’t build the roads and bridges’ doesn’t make sense. One could equally say that IF you were busy building the roads and bridges, THEN you didn’t have a business.
    What’s the point of such a statement? Obama was clearly declaring that the individual does not and cannot exist on their own. His error was, as Krauthammer points out, in falsely defining the civil society (family, friends, work colleagues, church, clubs, etc) as the government. So, Obama declares that the community’s building of the roads isn’t due to all the individuals working in that community (and paying taxes for those roads). No, to Obama, it’s due to Government, which is seens as some kind of metaphysical Bank, filled with Money From The Gods (not from hardworking individuals).
    As for Obama’s Marxism – I’ll still reject that. I doubt if he’s a Marxist (the evolving stages to pure communism). He’s certainly a socialist, in the sense of an elite governing central authority over the powerless masses. But, as we’ve argued before, I maintain he’s a psychological socialist, ie, he’s in it for the Power, the Power, and hasn’t an intellectual clue or interest in any policy in itself. He leaves policies to others; he takes power for himself.

  11. And beyond the context, remember who he was speaking to. It wasn’t an audience of business owners. He was ginning up a bunch of his liberal followers (who equate ‘business owner’ with ‘rich’). It was pure class warfare / tax the rich rhetoric. i.e. – ‘those rich business owners aren’t any smarter than you and they don’t work any harder than you – they just got a lot of help from the public sector and they owe the public sector a great debt’.

    All politicians are in it for the power. The power to institute their particular agenda. Nothing unique about that.

    As some of you already know, seventy comes soon enough. Some days I feel like a young man, some days like a fifty year old, and increasingly more often, like a seventy year old. My wife suggests that sometimes I still act like a sixteen year old. 🙂
