Why this blog?
Until this moment I have been forced to listen while media and politicians alike have told me "what Canadians think". In all that time they never once asked.
This is just the voice of an ordinary Canadian yelling back at the radio -
"You don't speak for me."

Dear Kate
Cut it with the anti-Russia crap, will you.
The Gulag Archipelago is compulsory reading in Russia’s schools.

The only exercise I remember regarding Stalin was him flying off the handle and jumping to conclusions. Political exercise books, who’d have thunk ?
Oh…that kind of exercise.
And then the Yahoo whitewashes Stalin by claiming that millions died by accident because of Stalin’s agricultural policies instead of it being due to an artificially-created famine. Maybe Yahoo should print a series of children’s exercise books in Russia?
Slow news day I guess…
Aim shoot fire. In that order
“Stalin is the leader who stayed in power the longest and who headed the country during the hardest time of its history,”
Well,that’s true. I DO seem to remember some negatives about Uncle Joe,but in the modern spirit of “never remember anything longer ago than last week”, just can’t remember if those negatives were of any importance.
He DID fight on the right side in WW2,unless you ask a German.
Hey,some day we’ll have kids exercise books with pictures of Trudeau on the cover! 😉
Stalin was a paranoid mass murderer and incompetent military bungler.
Not sure how that fits the hero narrative when he wasn’t even Russian.
.
“Hey,some day we’ll have kids exercise books with pictures of Trudeau on the cover! ;-)”
Thank you dmorris for that depressing thought. I’ll be waiting for Obama… er, Osama T-shirts becoming as popular as Che Gavaras. What was that quote about not remembering history???
“Stalin is the leader who….headed the country during the hardest time of its history,”
Cause and effect.
I wonder which leader will have his picture on school supplies this fall? A zero lunch bucket with community stuff inside
dmorris
U bastag you
stole my line:-))))
The scariest part about this is that yahoo.news thinks that they have to remind people that Stalin killed millions of people (tens of millions is more accurate). The fact that it is not common knowledge that Mao and Stalin ordered the killing of somewhere between 80 and 100 million people between them is an indication of just how bad the education system has failed Canadians.
If schools taught history correctly, socialism would wither and die.

And if they didn’t mention it, people would be saying how yahoo news is pro-Stalin, deviously omitting the less savoury details.
Alas, plenty of folks in Canada are enamored of Che Guevara and Nelson Mandela.
…..
Abortion-rights activist Dr. Henry Morgentaler received his Order of Canada award on Friday at a ceremony in Quebec City.
Morgentaler said his dream was “to create a better and more humane society.”
The Order of Canada, the highest civilian honour in the country, recognizes a lifetime of outstanding achievement and dedication to community.

Is Nelson Mandela in the Che Guevara category now?
“Stalin is the leader who stayed in power the longest and who headed the country during the hardest time of its history,”
And a orphan to boot after he sent his parents to the Gulag.
Is Nelson Mandela in the Che Guevara category now?
@Black Mamba 9:50 PM
Excerpts from the indictment of Nelson Mandela:
(a) the preparation, manufacture and use of explosives—for the purpose of committing acts of violence and destruction in the aforesaid Republic, (the preparation and manufacture of explo- sives, according to evidence submitted, included 210,000 hand grenades, 48,000 anti-personnel mines, 1,500 time devices, 144 tons of ammonium nitrate, 21.6 tons of aluminum powder and a ton of black powder);
(b) the art of warfare, including guerrilla warfare, and military training generally for the purpose in the aforesaid Republic;
(ii) Further acts of violence and destruction, (this includes 193 counts of terrorism committed between 1961 and 1963);

As a test, I think it would be instructive to put out a series of exercise books with Adolph Hitler’s photograph on the front. After all, he rescued the German economy in the 1930’s, presided over the creation of a comprehensive public medical care system, made Germany the first country to restrict tobacco as a public health menace, protected workers from cancer causing industrial chemicals and ensured optimal nutrition for pregnant mothers and their newborns.
Curious why he isn’t a media darling with all of those “progressive” policies that he pioneered.
@ Loki at April 5, 2012 11:30 PM
Good points. He was also a vegetarian and hated alcohol. The perfect poster boy for a wholesome society.
Yes, and he also had impeccable religious credentials. An atheist committed to Darwinism and opposed to Christ and Christianity.
Hitler an atheist? Where did you get that b.s.? He was a Roman Catholic and, although he wasn’t a regular church goer, he often invoked the deity (sort of like Stephen Harper) in his windy public speeches.
@ zog
True , but putting Harper in the same sentence kind of drops your credibility to zero.
http://www.nobeliefs.com/hitler.htm
Hey, I wasn’t “equating” Harper with Hitler, if that was your reading. I used him as an example because, my conservatism notwithstanding, I sometimes get heartburn from his overt public appeals to God. God bless Canada and God deliver us from Stephen’s invocations.
dmorris: “He DID fight on the right side in WW2,unless you ask a German.”
Or a Pole, or a Finn, or a Latvian, Estonian, Lithuanian, or a Romanian (1939-1941).
Plus his behaviour as a participant on “right side” beginning in 1944 behind the Soviet’s iron curtain. But the Yanks conceded this travesty at Yalta in 1945, the sell out of the Poles to Soviet slavery being the most infamous part of this.
“He” was on the wrong side for 2 years, before being on the right side for 3 years, followed by being on the wrong side for the rest of his life.
@ Zog at April 6, 2012 7:48 PM
Ok….all forgiven. I’ll keep the lights on for ya.
Zog is lying in his shit-eating teeth. Hitler was not a Catholic. He’d been raised Catholic but repudiated Christianity at an early age and was violently hostile to it. He went to church when he was a politician angling to get Catholic support on his way to power, never once he was in power. He expounded his religious views at length and was beyond question not just non-Christian but anti-Christian.
You suck a lot of cocks for a “conservative”, Zog.
