Wildrose Country

Bumped for update: You can listen to the audio here.
From the comments;

I’m in Alberta where an election was called this morning, and I just sat through the most offensive robocall “poll” you can imagine.
As soon as I pressed “2” to indicate that I was planning to vote Wildrose, the questions changed to a personal attack: “Press 1 if you are opposed to proper health care, Press 2 if you think students don’t deserve to go to kindergarten, Press 3 if you think that people should be allowed to drive drunk up to the legal limit without consequence, etc., etc.

If anyone else has received calls like this, let me know.

  1. Press 4 if you think people should be able to drive up to the posted speed limits with out consequences. Press 5 to punt redford.

  2. I received that call Monday night. I thought it was rather vile.
I had heard a caller mention it on Rutherford Monday morning.

  3. This is a good time for an election in Alberta. The Wildrose Party has been around long enough for voters to know them, and so has Redford.
You folks have the chance to make some real changes in government in your Province, here in B.C., we still have to wait awhile until we have a choice.
Now,which Party has insulted the intelligence of Alberta voters with this “robocall” tactic?

  4. This is great! 3 things Albertan’s absolutely hate – BSers, bullies and cheats. Seems the PCs have all those bases covered.
The parties may be tied now but come election day I think the PCs will be sitting in opposition.

  5. I’d stay on the line and ask for the “all of the above” option.
Anyone calling me without good reason gets the same respect in return.

  6. My house has been getting HOUNDED by these robo call polls for the last several weeks!

  7. We’ve had this same call about 9 or 10 times but the last couple of times when you press #2 for WR the call simply ends. I was just talking with 2 other people (we all live in central Calgary) and they have been getting hounded with the same call.

  8. I will risk driving with .07 drivers. I am all for execution of .21 drivers. I’ve got no problem with almost sober/almost drunk people driving. What is Redford’s damage in this area? Healthcare is going to crap and Redford offers us a crackdown on sober drivers.
Everyone who doesn’t dress to the left knows the only salvation is hospitals being paid fees for services with private clinics allowed to compete. Block funding for hospitals has created entitled hospital administration who find patients terribly inconvenient.

  9. Redford was on air on rutherford for a full half hour and she was on the defensive essentially the entire time. And I think she may have made her first (there will be many) gaffe:
She insisted two things – that driving between .05 and .08 was “inappropriate”. That may be so in the eyes of some, but her government has moved to make not just ‘inappropriate’ but actually illegal – with license suspensions and other penalties that will have huge financial consequences for those who are apprehended – which brings us to the much bigger gaffe…
She insisted that – to the best if her knowledge getting caught for being .05 will have “no impact” on one’s insurance rates. That is completely wrong. She is either lying or stupefyingly ignorant of the consequences of the bill she rammed through (with 30 plus of her own MPs conspicuously absent for the vote).
The penalty for being tested using a highly inaccurate mobile breathalyser (the courts will not accept them as evidence for a criminal .08 case) above .05 is a mandatory 24 (or is it 48) hour license suspension. One of the key requirements for getting mid to long-term insurance rate discounts is having one’s license suspension-free for a long period of time. If your license is suspended for 24 hours or more most insurers will bust your insurance rating back down that of a beginning driver. For someone over forty that likely means thousands more in premiums for years until that suspension-free period is rebuilt.
And Ms. Redford claims to be unaware of this being the case. personally i think she knows full well that that is the case. (hopefully someone in the war room is readying a press release making the above point).

  10. Is the Alberta .5 law the same as the BC law? Here in BC if you blow .5 the officer can take your car and your license on the spot with no appeal. If you can’t produce a breath sample same deal NO APPEAL. There have been several people with medical conditions who have had their licenses taken away for driving while being unable to provide a breath sample. This is what happens when idiots start saying that driving is a “privilege”. I’d love to know when we gave away our right to drive on the queen’s highways.

  11. I’d received a robocall “poll” a few days ago. No matter what I pressed, it wouldn’t allow me to indicate I was voting Wild Rose. I just assumed someone was going to use it to say, “polls show blah, blah, blah . . . ” and hung up.

  12. WRP do have the best advertising in Alberta – FREE!!!
On the bottom of every licence plate it says:
    “Wild Rose Country.”

  13. Clown Party, If Hillary isn’t on the ticket for VP and elected, Bill is moving to Saskatchewan. He saw “Land of Livingskies” on our licence plates.

  14. There is a truism in retail:
One satisfied customer may tell 2 people.
    One dis-satisfied customer tells EVERYBODY.
These robocalls are a massive blunder…inspiring WRP supporters to much greater efforts.

  15. I recieved the same robocall three times Monday night. @ 7:19 , 7:23 and I answered it @8:58.
Now they pissed me off enough that I’m gonna volunteer to put up signs for Wildrose.

  16. Until we have a valid NOTA (None Of The Above) option on the ballot I likely will not vote – as I’d rather not spoil my ballot. As a cynic and a political agnostic I believe that aspiring politicians are really just actors waiting in the wings for their turn on stage. Soon as they’re called (elected) they’ll be handed a new script by the PTB and the entrenched bureaucracy that’s very different from what they read to us during their audition.

  17. How’s about insyead of Kate in flatbush(no offence),we call AB elections? And Sun news,Rutherford, the troubleshooter, etc? I have.

  18. It is somewhere between a pity and a tragedy that the Alberta PC Party has been eaten out from inside by liberals.
That also happened to the federal Liberal party.
For some reason many people think that while leftists are incompetent they can’t be corrupt as well.

  19. “As a cynic and a political agnostic…”
    ~Paul
I’ve always wondered what kind twit botheed to pick the -*don’t know*- option on a 3 question internet pole.
Turns out it’s the same kind of person who comes to a political blog and declares themselves a cynic and agnostic on politics.

  20. Don’t offend the voters, even (or especially) the ones who support other parties. Not only will being offensive not change their minds, it will incense them to vote.
You only need an IQ slightly over room temperature (Celsius) to figure that one out, clearly demonstrating why Alberta desperately needs a change of government.

  21. My wife thought I was having an affair with Christy Clark, as she called so often during the leadership campaign.

  22. “Damn! I miss all the good robocalls!
    JS: “Move to Guelph?”
Or be a former United Steelworkers Union member and be reminded repeatedly and ad nauseum by Leo Gerard’s robocall voice that the Steelworkers helped get Obama elected, so you’d better vote NDP.

  23. sync, just plunk that number into Google and you have your source. (A landscaping company?)

  24. Land-line?
Try forwarding your calls to the local police station for a few days. They always appreciate a good illegal call, and they can get the source number of a “blocked” call.

  25. These robocalls are not polls nor is the purpose for polling.
The purpose of these calls is to take control of the narrative and frame the issues to the voters from the Leftist Alberta Progressive governments point of view in advance of the debates.
Apparently the Redford regime are unaware of how many Canadians signed on to the “Do Not Call” registry and what that signified.

  26. Chutz..a couple of things. First, all the ironworkers I swung hook for were hardass types, not likely to vote left. Stone stupid on the union’s part.
Second, I reverse searched the number and it does come up as a landscape company but when I called it they identify as Public Opinion Research.
    Chickenshit pricks.

  27. Call me madcap, but I’m beginning to get the idea that Alberta Tories are really Liebrals in disguise!
    Syncro @ 11:53: Nice work!

  28. “Oh…the call came from 403 774 1623.”
    It’s the same address as 403 281 2500 ROSS DANIELS A D and 403 451 5713. Google is your friend.
There is no ROSS DANIELS A D listed in the Calgary phone directory, business or otherwise. The “address” GOOGLE locates is located just north of the Saddle Dome, on the Stampede grounds 13 Ave between 5th and 6th Streets.
I think I’ll just pay for the info and find out who it really is. Disclosure: I just hang up or let it go to message, normally, but next call we’re taping.

  29. “Chutz..a couple of things. First, all the ironworkers I swung hook for were hardass types, not likely to vote left. Stone stupid on the union’s part.”
Yep, but the union leadership are politicians and unions have gone global. They don’t speak for the rank and file when it comes to the actual vote.
“Second, I reverse searched the number and it does come up as a landscape company but when I called it they identify as Public Opinion Research.
    Chickenshit pricks.”
    Pretty stupid, for a business.

  30. sync, they’re trying to shape the political landscape with their push-polling. Seeing them buried in an electoral landslide would be definitive schadenfreude.

  31. Paul – if you don’t vote then stop complaining. By not voting you cede the operation of the government to the rest of us.

  32. By not voting you cede the operation of the government to the rest of us.
    ~Gord Tulk
    Exactly so.
Politics is the Art of Getting Your Way.
If you don’t participate, don’t complain about not having something your way.

  33. True dat on the union not speaking for the rank and file. Deathwish I guess. I was an IUOE 955 member at on time. Took a withdrawal card and went back 15 years later. Had to lay down a grand to get back in and worked one job. Two guys on the job were having a cat fight over the radio’s to the point that a union business agent came out to the jobsite to mediate. I carpooled with one of the guys so the BA came and asked me about the situation. I told him they were both behaving like snot nosed kids and I found it embarassing that a union rep was even on the site dealing with this candyass shit. That got me blackballed.
