  1. I’d add to Wally J’s comment on the “Tier 3” that I’d think that having the expiration date being entered as “LIFE” also means that it wasn’t something minor like urinating in public. (I’ve read at some U.S. blogs that doing that can get you put on the sex offender registry in some states.) Or screwing his 15-year-old girlfriend when he was aged 16 or the like. It must have been something pretty heinous to get a LIFE on his registry card.

    FYI…..in Canadian prisons/jails sex offenders of any stripe are sequestered away from the general population and each other, to the extent of paranoia.
    Trustees in the kitchens are closely supervised preparing their meals and are NEVER granted access to the cell units the sex offenders reside.
    The guards and prison/jail administration are absolutely convinced that the cons WILL kill them.
    Even guards are not allowed access exceptin pairs and are rotated frequently to lesson risk.
    The scuttle-butt is that Paul Berrnardo although closely sequestered has had at least 2 attempts on his life.

    Plenty of your sex offenders survive their sentences in the U.S., the sex registry exists to register living felons who have been released.
    What we don’t have in Canada; are Presidents and Governors who can pardon felons, wielding a power to overturn the courts that not even our Sovereign Queen Elizabeth II has.
    Don’t tell me, after having watched the O.J. Simpson trial on TV or seeing Obama wipe his butt with your Constitution for over 3 years, about law and order in the United States of America.

I find it disturbing that this spill happened in 2010 and it is now 2012 and some of the oil is still there, and may never be totally cleaned up. Enbridge is no poster boy for the oil Industry. Like I posted earlier, their is risk to transporting oil but these companies should expend every penny they have to clean up a mess they create, even if it means bankrupting themselves.

  8. northernont- In some cases, oil is left to “flash off” if cleaning it up might tend to cause more damage to the ecosystem. It might take a few years to evaporate, whereas the vegetation could take decades to recover from a full reclamation project. Crude oil is relatively harmless to most vegetation. I’ve seen vegetation that was covered in oil in winter, growing faster than surrounding vegetation that wasn’t touched by oil. If there is still oil on the sites in question, it’s because the government agency has agreed to let it evaporate.

    But I guess that’s what you get from ideological lefties that are so trying to damage they right that they won’t even do the due diligence on their own side to see if it stands up to scrutiny.

  18. @Bruce..I don’t know what my argument for ensuring Oil companies clean up their oil spills has to do with “Wind Energy and bald eagles”. For the record, I am a rabid anti-wind and solar provider, as these technologies are more suited to backyard hobby projects like keeping your garage light on at night, not for providing base electrical power on a commercial scale, propped up by taxpayer subsidies, while literally shredding the avian population.I support the Oil Industry because I realize that oil is not the boogeyman as portrayed to be by the current CAGW loony environmentalists, but ensures the survival of our standard of living. Questioning environmental policies and practices of Oil companies, especially policies for cleanup should be done always, as with any other resource extraction, so the taxpayer is not left footing the bill. Making executives personally liable financially for the actions of their corporations is a good place to start, and this does not just apply to oil companies.

He fits in well with the other mentally ill radicals of green peace, and is in fact in debt to the forces of his freedom for the ability to continue sodomizing little boys as he so chooses.

  23. I believe the NG pipeline is going to be built regardless of the machinations of the anti- oil industry lobbyists.
    I think Harper,and even our chief cheerleader,Christy, understand B.C. needs this project to remain a “have” Province.
    Imho, they should start building the pipeline with no further delay,BUT the builder,Enbridge has to be held accountable for any problems.
    Greens want absolute guarantees about everything we build,but in the real world there are no guarantees. In spite of all your best intentions and hard work,unforeseen circumstances will crop up,and the industry has to be prepared to deal with them.
    With several thousand miles of pipelines already crossing North America,I see no reason to delay an economically and strategically important project because we can’t guarantee it 100%.
    Mr.Harper, cut that review down to about two weeks,and let them get on with it.

  24. At dmorris, how exactly will the pipeline benefit BC? There will be some jobs to be sure, but all of the profits go to Alberta, while BC takes on the bulk of the risk.
    Here’s a proposal… how’s about the stakeholders in the pipeline promise to sign over every last dime they own to the province of BC should a catastrophic accident occur? I mean everything except for the clothes on their backs. Would they gamble that for a shot at the money they’ll make? Because that’s what they’re asking the people who live nearby to risk for basically nothing.
    I’m a lefty. I don’t oppose oil production, and I support research into alternative fuels such as nuclear, but the oil sands are a dirty business. Better to leave them alone. I’m sure we’ll find a use for them at some later date, and we’ll probably figure out a way to extract them with less impact.

  26. Pretty cheesy showing clips of salmon dying in stream in a film about the harm to BC if Enbridge builds the Northern Gateway. Maybe my high school biology 101 was flawed but I always thought that salmon died naturally after spawning in said streams.
    Also, not building the pipeline will not prevent those container ships prominently highlighted in those spills at sea from plying the oceans (or hot dogging cruise ship captains for that matter).

    I thought the communist Chinese were supposed to be the darling of the left, enough so that +60 million dead under Mao, and the occupation of Tibet as a minor footnote in history. The massive coal powered plant production without environmental regulation, a bazillion new cars a month on the streets, unregulated dragnet fisheries etcetera, all positive and proactive sources for their deservedly booming economy.
    Now you want to cut off their oil from Alberta, because you don’t feel that you get enough profits?
    Better yet, why not advocate that Alberta and the Prairie Provinces separate and just pay you transit rights with the equalization payments it would save from other provinces?

    This aspect of Bolenbaugh’s past has been brought up because it goes to his credibility as a witness, it demonstrates exactly how much he cares about children and their future.

    Quite true, Lake Athabaska has never been a healthy region, that’s why very few people ever lived there till kabloonak came along. Before the Bennett dam was built the seasonal flow of the Peace river would flush out the western end for a while and people would only be there then.

  33. There are good reasons to build the pipeline if it’s done responsibly.
    The pipeline must be built in the existing rail-highway corridor to minimize environmental impact. No cutting across the wilderness.
    The pipeline must be operated responsibly with spill mitigation policies and procedures in place.
    As Canadians we should expect nothing less.

  35. North of 60- Pipelines and highways tend to be incompatible. They have very different sets of construction criteria. Highways used a cut/fill system, and follow contours. Pipelines need to avoid following contours, to avoid breakage from landslides. Placing a high pressure pipeline near a highway increases the risk of accidental contact. Pipelines that run through the wilderness are less likely to leak, because they are less likely to have human contact. There’s no point trying to create a corridor, when the pipeline would need to divert every few miles.

    Did the Peace have much of a natural seasonal flow? The Athabasca sure doesn’t. It slows down a bit by the fall and winter. The melt takes many months starting in the flatlands in April with the big flow in June when the glaciers start melting.

  46. Why does everyone assume he’s the worst scum of the earth? What are the details of the case? Was there real evidence or an accusation and circumstantial evidence? If the ‘victim’ was 13-15 years old, did he even have sex with her or did they make out and then her mom found out and filed charges?
    Men often end up on sex offender registries for surprisingly (if you haven’t been paying attention) little and false rape accusations are commonplace. Best not to judge until you have all the facts, fun as it may be.
