Oh, Frack!

Here it comes…

…during the UN climate change conference in Durban last week, Dominic Frongillo, a town councillor from Caroline, New York, which is atop the Marcellus Shale seam, estimated to contain 489 trillion cubic feet of extractable natural gas noted that “Before I left for Durban, Professor Howarth told me that “preventing unconventional gas extraction could be the number one thing we could do in the short term to control growth of U.S. greenhouse gas emissions.”

  1. Natural gas is a very clean source of energy.
One would think that if these Warmists sincerely cared about the impact of pollution on the environment that they would be glad to see natural gas replace coal generated energy to any significant degree while segueing into even cleaner sources of energy production in the future.
From where I sit it looks like their real plan is to destroy our way of life and make us freeze to death in the dark while environmental concerns merely front for a different secret agenda.

  2. The availability of centuries worth of dirt cheap NG is the AGW lobby’s – and the global rule by environmental law crowd’s – greatest fear.
That they see the threat for what it is proves they are not idiots. But their resistance is as futile as resisting gravity – cheap gas (and oil) is being found around the world and soros and company haven’t enough money to prevent it everywhere.
Cheap energy is the foundation of greater wealth for all of mankind and it will bankrupt the enemies of freedom. Mid to long term it’s a very bullish thing

  3. Local NDP spent many of their questions in the last Yukon Territorial Leg sitting railing on about wanting moratoriums on fracking, which is not even practiced here yet. Their approach seemed to be based in enviro-paranoia with a few extreme one-off cases of fracking complications. I would like to explore the issue and do some research to help debunk their greenwashing.

  4. Shale does not occur in “seams”. That term is reserved for coal. Shale typically occurs in beds with great longitudinal and lateral extent.

  5. At current NG prices, I wouldn’t get too worried about a surge in drilling. By the time they get around to drilling into that formation, most of these greenies will be too old to protest.

  6. Apparently methane has about a 10 year life until it breaks down into CO2 and water. That’s a lot less CO2 than other carbon based fuels. Most of it is natural and it does eventually go away. I am sure a whole industry of lies will also develop around methane.

  7. Ok, let’s make Professor Horwarth happy and just build coal fired power plants. Also in good supply and better for saving the planet in his opinion. Dr. Gore and Dr.Fruitfly can fight it out with DR. Horwarth and we can all sit back and be entertained.

  8. Toxic pollution is very profitable. That’s why the polluters like the coal-fired electricity industry are funding the AGW/CO2 distraction. Follow the money, see who profits, and you will find the truth.

  9. Amazing how they always seem to find a greenhouse gas cloud for every silver energy lining.
If they really want to reduce GGE, maybe they should stop talking. Better yet, they should stop breathing.

  10. Amazing at how consistent the watermelons are in attacking any cheap source of energy. Methane is a very clean energy source and we should use it as much as possible. I think it’s time to fight back, though, and we should deal with the issue of vegetarian flatulence (VF). The emissions of those with VF are a significant source of global warming and anyone who identifies themselves as a vegetarian should be forced to utilize a rectal tube 24 hours/day with collection of their emissions in a portable balloon. Only in this manner can we prevent the drastic environmental changes that VF is likely to cause.
In keeping with watermelon “science” we don’t need quantitative data on emissions resulting from VF, and just need to be horrified that it is occurring at all. Those with VF will find that their house heating bills are less as a result of reducing their atmospheric emissions.
Loss of methane from fracking is minimized by the profit motive; a concept not understood by moonbats. Inefficient fracking operations will go bankrupt whereas those that succeed in capturing the largest portion of freed methane will be profitable.

  11. fracking is contributing to global warming by releasing methane gas,
a greenhouse gas more potent than carbon dioxide

I thought it was supposed to be called-
    Global climate disruptions?
    But this is great,
Instead of investing in Carbon credit stock,
we can now invest in cow farts..
Is this a great country or what?

  12. Where did they get that retarded statistic
“one gas well emits 100.000 homes worth of carbon.”
    as opposed to what?
    freezing in the dark?
    I hate these A$$holes.

  13. 2012 could be a good year for exposing the Eco-Nutters and their moronic fears.
Fracking is a good issue. Pipelines is another one.
Let’s make hills for them to die on.

  14. 123,
ultimately, if these idiots get there way, they won’t be able to buy electricity at any price.

  15. The fix is already in, in NY anyway.
As I’ve commented before, a guy I know runs one of those directional drill heads they use for horizontal wells. He was on a test rig someplace in NY to do a couple of holes, swears he’ll never do it again. The New York state “health and safety” Gestapo had a permanent trailer next to the rig, daily shut-downs for obscure regulatory infractions were the rule. Drove him completely nuts.
Basically, “liberalism” as we presently understand the term is a regional cultural phenomenon in the USA. New York City is the wellspring of it. Its simultaneously a philosophy of centralized command and control AND a reactionary refusal to accept change.
New gas wells in New York State are never EVER going to happen as long as liberalism remains the culture of the upper classes in that area. They aren’t rational, and they aren’t willing to compromise. They will change -after- NYC reaches the condition Detroit Michigan is in, possibly after the mob comes to burn down their houses and kill them.

  16. NY and Calif will end up with the windmills and the solar panels.
Texas, ND, Louisiana, Pennsylvania will have the oil, the gas wells.
As is already starting to happen, voters will inevitably tire of taxpayer subsidies to “green”, “renewable” power.
Guess who will be left holding the bag.
If another civil war breaks out – NY, CA will be able to fight on sunny, windy days only.

  17. A really stupid question here but why is the watermelon side the only side presented in these so called public debates? Granted the media is on the watermelon side but still the ones who should be presenting the realist’s side are strangely silent at best or actively promoting the watermelon side at worst. Speaking as a realist I can only say, “With friends like this, who needs enemies?”

  18. I should vote for who: I say that you posting on SDA will cause your fingers to fall off. Its up to you to stop posting until you prove me wrong. After all it is preferable that you keep all you digits and you just can’t be too safe.

  19. OK…this has large elements of psychological warfare….
SOP to deal with this anti-fracking (anti-any energy) is to pose the question:
If by some process, some person or corporation should develop a cheap, fool proof, reliable wind mill or solar panel and another entity develops a cheap means to store electricity during times of low demand…..producing abundant reliable energy competitive to or cheaper than coal…..
What would be the reaction of the watermelon eco-freaks?
Would polution from manufacture of these hypothetical miracle inventions suddenly be a decisive factor?
Would the land use foot-print of these hypothetical miracle inventions become a threat to the environment.
Would the windmills be ecologically harmful due to adversely influencing wind patterns/weather…..bird kills?
