  1. I admire and respect Her Majesty for moving past the Political Correct wall to clearly enunciate the Christmas Message.

    50) Get the hell off the Beach in Asbury Park and get out. You’re done. It’s 4:30 PM. You’ve maximized your tan. Get off the beach. Get in you cars and get out of those areas. — Chris Christie
    47) Why does the left hate free speech? Because they don’t know how to talk about the substantive merits when they are challenged. Having submerged themselves in disciplining each other by denouncing any heretics in their midst, they find themselves overwhelmed and outnumbered in America, where there is vibrant debate about all sorts of things they don’t know how to begin to talk about. They resort to stomping their feet and shouting “shut up”… when they aren’t prissily imploring everyone to be “civil.” — Ann Althouse

  3. A beautiful testament to her Christian faith.
No hedging, but then she’s not casting about for votes either.
Good health for Prince Philip in the coming year.

  4. When I was a boy, on Christmas evening my Dads family would gather at his parents home with his siblings and their families. 20+ people in a modest home, men playing cards, women comparing notes on family matters and kids playing up a storm. When HRH message was to come on the T.V., everything stopped. My grandparents came to this country as did many others from places of political uncertainty and it was very important for them to honor the “Crown” for giving them the opportunity for a better life. They even drove to Montreal for Expo 67 because the Queen would be there. I always admired the respect and loyalty that they showed to the Royal family. I think Grandpa felt it was the least he could do to say thanks for this wonderful “new” land they were given a chance to live in.

  5. I think continued respect for Crown and Country makes better citizens of us all. Canadian patriots and monarchists are entirely more likely to pay their taxes, be law-abiding, etc. I was very pleased that our current Premier in the Yukon has concluded his most recent serious speeches, like the swearing-in with “God Bless Canada, God Bless Yukon, and God Save the Queen!” Perhaps I am old-fashioned and paleoconservative for a 30 year old, but it feels right.

  6. A very classy and regal and serene lady, with a classic message. Hope her eldest can live up to her level when his time comes.

  7. Her Majesty is a stand up kind of gal…says her peace with a confident and purposeful demeanor.
Psalm 97:1 The LORD reigns; let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!
A very Merry Christmas to Her Majesty The Queen.
    Cheers
Hans-Christian Georg Rupprecht, Commander in Chief
    1st Saint Nicolaas Army
    Army Group “True North”

  8. Our constitutional monarchy works.
I can think of no good reason for abandoning it in favour of becoming another failing North American republic in thrall to crackpot populists and cynical opportunists.
The ideologues will tell you they don’t like the monarchy because it isn’t “fair” in a “modern society” etc., etc. What they really mean is that it prevents them from truly lording it over us all because they can never be top dog.
It is a very salutary check on the ambitions of our politicians, reminding them they are ultimately ephemeral and can be tossed aside when we tire of them.
    God Save The Queen!

  9. Thanks for posting this, EBD. A very uplifting message. I’m delighted to hear a decided emphasis on the love, hope, and forgiveness found in the Christians faith. The Queen doesn’t shy away from proclaiming God’s power to save and to draw us all closer together.
    God save our gracious Queen!
    Long live our noble Queen!
    Long may she reign!
(I also hope that Prince Philip is recuperating nicely.)

  10. I may be more republican in my political pov, but that in no way includes any ideas of casting aside the monarchy for some fashionable replacement.
As long as she or her heirs consent to reign, they have the job of sovereign.
I thank God that we are lucky to have the crown.
It’s also good to realize that the reign of the sovereign has outlasted the tenures of our liberal prime ministers.

  11. Wonderful how she included all the peaceful, loving, African despots in her Commonwealth “family.” Good on ya, Liz. Keep up that Christian faith!

  12. Back in the day, I recall engaging a rather vocal anti-monarchist Liberal, who was condemning the anticipated cost of a Royal visit.
First, I pointed out that the public cost was more than mitigated by the influx of $US provided by the anti-monarchist yanks who would predictably attend to wave at her….
Then, I enunciated the Inconvenient Truth that as Head Of State, prevented Canada ever having a Nixon…..then I really got cruel….
“Oh wait…..that may not be the case…remember Trudeau…..”
I harbour grave doubts about Her Majesty’s heir apparent…Charles, Prince of Wales….however HRH Prince William does show promise…

  13. Ditto, Sasquatch. Bang on. Whenever anyone goes off against the monarchy, I just say “Nixon, Clinton, G W Bush, Elizabeth II. Who’s brought more dignity and respect to their country”? (Yes, I pick on both US parties with this one…) Shuts ’em up 9.5 times out of ten. The last one, who keeps pushing, gets a full blast of “Clinton – blue dress stains”. That always finishes it off.

  14. Publius at godscopybook.blog.com has the 1957 Christmas message up or you can search ‘Christmas Broadcast 1957’ on youtube. This was the first televised Christmas message. She was and is an unabashed Christian then and now.
I think the statement about all 53 countries being family is just a politeness. I am sure Her Majesty is politically and morally the exact opposite to certain genocidal marxist dictators in Africa. I know I am.
    God Save the Queen!

  15. Al_in_Ottawa:
Thank goodness she’s polite and not rude to the genocidal marxist dictators! I mean really, decorum above all, what?
I suppose that’s why Andrew is allowed to go play with terrorists, torturers and pedophiles… Wouldn’t do to be seen as RUDE!
