So, you can’t use you windmill at night, and your solar panels don’t work all that well at night, so what are you going to do for power when you actually need to turn on the lights. I think it might be time to invest in a candle making company.

Ooooh wait a minute minuteman. Candles are made from parrafin, a petroleum product. Greenies won’t like that. Beeswax could be used but peta would get their cotton knickers all twisted. We could use more wood but the tree huggers would get all weird (wait, that’s redundant). We’ll all just migrate eastward and circle the planet once a day and stay in the lighted portion. Yeah that’s it. Greenies win again. Sure.

If you live somewhere where you have piped in natural gas, the best thing to do is get a gas powered generator. People use these as back up generators. I don’t know how much they cost but as back ups go they are probably the best. As long as the gas supply is relaible, and I have never heard of a gas black out, you have an endless gas supply. Get a gas genny, a battery bank and an inverter (this allows you to run the genny more effiecently) and you’re all set. Might be expensive, but as we head for 80 cent a kwh electricity and rolling blackouts it would probably pay off.
I have a seal oil lamp I picked up years ago in the Arctic . . . it has never harmed a bat or a duck.
Wonder if I can get a government grant ?
There are more than dead bat carcasses at the bases of these machines. This is probably not the only one that is endangered too.

The gas generator is a good idea. I have a gasoline-fired generator that I use when we have the occasional extended power outage caused by ice storms or lightning storms.
Another option for lighting, available to most anyone not living in an apartment complex, is to get some gas lamps. Either set them up to run on natural gas, or hook them up to a cylinder of propane. Such lamps are often used in RVs. They deliver a nice bright white light, and make little sound. Unlike candles, they make plenty of light, more than enough to do one’s normal chores, or to read by.

Indiana Bat and the Windfarm of Doom?
The government – at the behest of environmentalists – will not be happy until we’re shivering in mud huts, burning animal dung in a desperate attempt to stay warm.
Not that it’s likely to ever reach that point – sabotaging our own development to that degree would ensure we’d be invaded.
(In related news, Obama dismantles our nuclear warheads while other foreign powers are increasing their stockpiles. As Kate would say… I’m sure it’s nothing).
