[W]hen the Israel Philharmonic played on Thursday evening, a band of around 30 thugs – none was wearing jackboots, but they should have been – launched into chanting and mock singing, disrupting the concert to such an extent that BBC Radio 3 decided it could not go on with the broadcast.
The protesters included a core group of professional musicians, who gave what amounted to a counterconcert, breaking into vocal choruses in a bid to drown out the orchestra. A statement by the protesters said that they were members of “a new vocal ensemble” called Beethovians for Boycotting Israel, and described their behavior during the concert as a “debut performance.”
The statement quoted one of the singer-protesters, Deborah Fink, whom it identified as a soprano, describing the group’s first disruption as “intricately interwoven” with the Israel Philharmonic’s first piece, Webern’s Passacaglia.
“We thought we’d liven up the Webern a bit,” Ms. Fink was quoted as saying. “The performance of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony at the previous night’s Prom was so exciting that we decided to treat the audience to our own version of the ‘Ode to Joy.’ ”
I like Beetoven, he would not agree with these people were he alive today.
One of the reasons for the golden era of Classical music was that these great musicians were apolitical and could concentrate on their art unencumbered by such extraneous interference.
We know them today, not just because their music was great, but because it was widely popular.
Music, like food, is a matter of personal taste.
I wish there were more Jewish restaraunts in my area.

An orchestra, playing wonderful music in a free country, is in many ways a quintessential example of free speech.

This incident is yet another example of a distressing decline in the ability to reason in our western societies. Israel is the only democratic country in that swath of Muslim despair that covers the globe from north Africa to India. Israel respects basic freedoms and human rights and, although officially a Jewish state, permits other religions to operate freely within its borders. Most of Israel’s neighbours are vile Muzzie regimes whose stated purpose is to wipe Israel and all Jews from the face of the earth.
Artists of all people should celebrate freedom. Yet here we have a group of artists demonstrating on behalf of regimes and a totalitarian ideology that would suppress music and probably kill musicians. There is no logic or reason behind their actions.
Sadly there area lot of people in our societies who seem to lack the ability to reason. Slogans are their stock in trade. Their shallow, perverse thinking and subsequent actions encourage exactly the kind of societies they claim to abhor.

They have made it illegal to move about from place to place with their education laws and what not the travelers are in danger of losing their children to the system, therefore they are forced to stay put in one place.

I’m sure there is a law against disrupting a funeral.. or a religious service, but I’m asking if the left would grant the same respect for their group think. and clearly I doubt it.

A recent Forbes Magazine article examines the current anti-Semitic Marxist thugs, responsible for this type of cultural vandalism, and the Fascist and Nazi “Brownshirts” of the 1930’s-1940’s and finds very little difference in their socialist ideologies and destructive tactics.
