Reading the toast off of cue cards was agonizing to watch.
Barry’s in a world of his own, apparently he signed the guest registry at Westminster Abbey and dated it May 24, 2008 (except it was written the English way, 24 May 2008, which makes me wonder if he asked somebody to do it for him?).
If the media ever do turn on him, they could drive his approval ratings down into the 20-30 per cent range (he’s definitely going to peak at 55 from now on, I think some of his former support base have deserted already).
Mind you, he is only about half as bad as I was expecting, I think that’s because he takes most days off.
Obbe has that little boy rebuked look as he stand there obediently.

The Queen would never make her guest feel uncomfortable. She is the consumate hostess and experienced pol. She will always find a way for her guest to save face.

I couldn’t finish the video, it was so painful. Then, I thought I’d better and I’m glad I did: The Queen absolutely did not give Barry the cold shoulder or humiliate him.
When God Save the Queen is played, no one talks. Period. Even in a classroom — at least in my classroom.
As soon as the last note was played, the Queen picked up her glass, turned to Barry, and smiled. He’s lucky she didn’t give him the cold shoulder. It would have been a long night. (The look on Michelle’s face sure said she wasn’t having the time of her life! Boo hoo, Shelley. It’s tough hob-knobbing with the other rich and famous folk, isn’t it?)
I found the Queen’s handling of Obama’s awkward misstep very impressive. She taught him a lesson in protocol for the world to see he won’t soon forget.
The Queen proves over and over to be the epitome of grace in all circumstances.
Obama could have saved the moment with a simple fist bump with the Queen after the toast. Then he would have been announced as the coolest president ever.
You’ve got to wonder about his protocol staff. Either:
a) they’re totally clueless (with all the missteps he’s made while in office) or;
b) he just doesn’t listen to them
either way it laughable
But Obama knows to take his shoes off in a mosque. Apparently, knowing and respecting some cultural traditions is more worthy of his time than others.
Obama’s agenda is to tick off and alienate every decent ally America has and he seems to have a special contempt for the U.K.

I just watched the video. That was a truly impressive fubar by Barry there, spectacular in its utter uninformed perfection. He truly did not have a clue.
Which is interesting. For him to not have a single clue about how things are done with the Queen, he has to have missed out on a tremendous amount of literature, movies, TV shows, even military protocol. He’s never seen a British war movie where the most junior rank in the mess gives the toast to the Queen. He’s never seen Sean Connery toast the Queen as James Bond. He’s never seen Brit TV where they toast the Queen. He’s never read any Brit novels where they toast the Queen.
