Osama Bin Laden is dead, taken out by a covert US operation outside Islamibad. A huge setback for civil rights lawyers.
Update: Watched Obama and details of Bin Laden’s dispatch on CNN. Now switching to #CBC to see how other side’s taking it…
This earlier report was certainly related. Google map. Military base is located at corner of Kakul and Awami, Bin Laden compound reported to be on Kabul Road, “within 1,000 ft” of the base. (Edited to remove satellite photo until I have better info.)

I’m closing comments on this post even more so because I cannot process the dancing in the streets I saw in the US last night. My soul is chilled and shaken.   7. Just got a text from someone I know in the Eastern US that the last 15 minutes of The Celebrity Apprentice show was interrupted by Bam Bams announcement that Bin Laden was dead. Coincidence or deliberate pettiness on BO’s part?

    That was the comment that struck me too. Obama wasn’t kidding when he said he would defend the Muslims if it came to that. Not surprised he took ALL the credit. I am wondering why there were no questions after. I watched via Briebart TV live stream. Anyone else think it odd he used ‘The Apprentice’ time slot to make his announcement?

  12. This is what Obama will use in his bid for a second term. Liberals everywhere will choke down their hatred of the West and their secret love for bin Laden and congratulate Obama on a job well done.
    I wouldn’t be surprised if someone was sitting on this for the right opportunity.

Nick (11:57 and 12:08), it’s a near-certainty that the breaking reports from the media were wrong, and that Obama’s recap of the basic details — that the intelligence information came in about a week ago, and the firefight happened today (“today” meaning at the time Obama spoke) — is correct.

    The thing that really got me pissed with Obummer tonight was his mention of “(sic) one of my first acts as President was to do all things necessary to hunt him down……..yada yada” OK, but it was like Bush before him did nothing to get this terrorist asshole.
    Also, he never misses an opportunity to bring race and ethnicity into the conversation, as he did tonite.
    He is a true asshat.

  47. Just got home and only just heard about the report of Bin Laden being taken out. Watching Obama now, taking all the credit. This seems all so very scripted. Call me a sceptic, but there is something not quite right to me about all of this.
    1. It was a “surgical” operation, i.e. not a drone attack. Yet,
    2. Spec. ops went in, killed Bin Laden, and then got out. If they could get out, why didn’t they get him alive and take him with them? He would be so much more valuable alive, from an intelligence point of view.
    3. He was in a “compound” in Pakistan. Try to tell me the Pakistanis had know idea he was in their country.
    The length and content of Obamas speech suggests to me an all too political thrust of all of this. I’m thinking they’ve know for awhile where Bin Laden was and picked a time to get the Donald, the debt ceiling, the Ryan budget, etc. off the headlines to start the week.
    Waiting for someone in the media to start asking the right questions in the weeks ahead. Unfortunately, not optimistic.
