Breaking News – Bumped

Osama Bin Laden is dead, taken out by a covert US operation outside Islamibad. A huge setback for civil rights lawyers.
Update: Watched Obama and details of Bin Laden’s dispatch on CNN. Now switching to #CBC to see how other side’s taking it…
This earlier report was certainly related. Google map. Military base is located at corner of Kakul and Awami, Bin Laden compound reported to be on Kabul Road, “within 1,000 ft” of the base. (Edited to remove satellite photo until I have better info.)
Update – here’s a page showing the compound’s location.
More – Brief ABC video of the inside.
Morning reaction from a corner of Canadian Progressistan;

I’m closing comments on this post even more so because I cannot process the dancing in the streets I saw in the US last night. My soul is chilled and shaken. It aches and trembles on a level I cannot articulate. I am struck silent watching the mobs, as I was struck silent the day the twin towers came down.

Waterboarding – is there nothing it can’t do?

  1. How much make-up is john roberts wearing? Also, he almost got caught up again in a ‘bush didn’t get him’ moment

  2. The only news that will top this sTORY in Canada is a Tory “migraTORY.”
As Captain Picard has said: “Make it so.”
Now Canada …. get out and vote (and remember there is a TORY in MigraTORY.)

  3. Fox should fire Geraldo. Apparently this was the greatest night of his career, Neo-Nazis and empty crypts notwithstanding.
I can’t abide Wolf and the CNN crowd.
Wendy Mesley and Neil MacDonald make me want to gouge my eyes out with a fork.

  4. Right around the time bin Laden was killed, the NDP began their historically unprecedented surge.
    Hmmm

  5. All those new Canadians who cheered on 9/11 aren’t walking so proud tonight.

  6. EBD- Could this affect tomorrow’s election results? A very large block of liberal and NDP supporters will be in mourning, and might not be able to get to the polls.

  7. It is the US military who deserves the credit. Not that nutless wonder in the whitehouse.

  8. Maybe he misspoke, but Obama just said that he ordered the attack *today*. It has been widely reported that it was a week ago. Hmmm.

  9. Obama taking personal credit for capturing Bin Laden. Makes it sound like he did everything but pull the trigger.

  10. Taliban Jack promises he will make a statement after the election. says Osama has now been smeared as well.

  11. Barack just said “Osama bin Laden was not a Muslim leader”.
My joy at the monster’s death does not erase my annoyance with this fool.

  12. My God..Kneel McDonald speechifies about Pres.Bush and his speech after 9/11 and how the ‘with us or agin us’ was “over the top’..please God,a Cons majority and KILL the cbc!

  13. World’s Greatest Communicator, Obama taking credit for killing World’s Biggest Terrorist Osama but looks wooden and sounds stilted.
I like how he said that he called in the NSA in 2009 and told them to make getting OBL job number one like they’d never heard of him before.
Good work, Team America despite Blatherer in Chief…

  14. coach, you’re right. A lot of them were counting on a second vote tomorrow at home, after voting in advance polls at college.

  15. Sorry, explaination:
MigraTORY = habitually moving from place to place
That is what Canada is doing … returning to the place of vicTORY. The Cons need this return so Canada will return to the world stage. Hopefully we will get that majority.

  16. PMSH is going to comment after Obama so says the cbc..I too wonder IF this will affect election results? Can you only imagine a PM Layton dealing with possible aftermath?

  17. I noticed that Obama said that Americans of all races and ethnicity suffered that day. Religion was not mentioned. Kudos to him for that,if it wasn’t a teleprompter malfunction.

  18. My question is will this possibly affect the election tomorrow?
If it did, it would only be positive.

  19. Wow, now what an opportunity for PMSH to show his statesmanship on TV. Essentially free advertising. Too bad it’s so late. Wanna bet, though, that it’s replayed tomorrow?

  20. Wow! Obama’s really sucking for support. He ended up his comments with “one nation, UNDER GOD”

  21. CBC’s McDonald just can’t help himself. Just had to “report” that many Americans think Obamba is a muslim and soft on terrorism and will now have to rethink that.

  22. Sun TV is now on it – they probably had to get people out of bed. :~)

  23. Wow, how embarrassing – I’m gagging. Obama is taking all the credit, I, I, I, I, I, I, a small group of Americans – no credit whatsoever to the military or the soldiers. This guy is beyond belief – I’ve never seen such blatant narcissism.
No mention of him wanting the troops out of Afghanistan last year. The death of Osama happened despite Obama, not because of him.If Obama had gotten his way, the soldiers would have been out of Afghanistan months ago. Very sad – not an ounce of humility – doubt he even knows what humility means.
Notice he made the announcement b4 when the Apprentice is suppose to air. How long has he known? No questions after the press conference? Odd indeed.

  24. I can imagine US servicemen posing with the ex-Bin Laden in various “Weekend at Bernie’s” style pics….
Seriously though, there’s gonna have to be some kind of photo op, or his followers still won’t believe it.

  25. “Now this is not the end. It is not even the beginning of the end. but it is, perhaps, the end of the beginning.”
This is a war that will take generations to win. Let’s not forget that as we Savour the execution of one of our fiercest enemies.

  26. Good for Obama to take him out, especially if it was indeed in Pakistan. It is seldom that I praise Obama, but I’m smiling with him today. Here’s hoping for consistent follow-through.

  27. But Obama said the U.S. is not at war and will never be at war with islam.

  28. Barack just said “Osama bin Laden was not a Muslim leader”.

I guess someone will have to tell that to the many thousands whom we will undoubtedly see weeping and rioting in the streets all across the Middle East.

  29. EBD @ 11:42:
Good observation. Since we’ve been told he was killed about a week ago, and his identity confirmed in the meantime, does this suggest that, despite his attempt to take credit for it, that AliBama doesn’t even know what the hell went on?

  30. Wasn’t there a huge ransom on Bin Laden’s head? Who gets to collect that – the guy that offed him or the one that leaked the information as to his whereabouts? Another thing I’ve wondered was how big a piece of Bin Laden did one need to bring back to claim the ransom – bringing his head back would be the most definitive way of establishing he was dead and his identity but dealing with customs inspectors might be a bit tricky in this case.
