  1. So, Who the heck is or are “Arcade Fire” and what do they know? Just another well-paid CBC hack, I guess.

  2. I’ve never heard of ‘Arcade Fire’. I assume that they are some sort of entertainers. So why should I care what they think? In fact, why do the hacks in the MSM pay so much attention to what any entertainers think about anything? Are they some sort of privileged political class?

  3. Here’s my reaction to Arcade Fire’s rejection of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, cross-posted at BLY last night:
Headline at the Probe and Fail under Must Reads: “Arcade Fire not fans of Harper” http://www.theglobeandmail.com/news/politics/arcade-fire-not-fans-of-harper/article1977018/
    So what?
    Most popular articles today:
    1. With Harper holding steady lead, Layton faces campaign nadir
    2. Like Trudeau, Harper tries to low-bridge a majority
    3. Ralph Klein, diagnosed with dementia, losing his ability to speak
    4. Democrats, Republicans blame each other for looming shutdown
    5. Baseball slugger Ramirez retires
Hmm, Arcade Fire article not even in the running.
I suspect, as others have pointed out, that Canadians — at least since 2006 — aren’t on the same page as the usual suspects in the media. Members of the MSM and PPG echo chamber live in a bubble that most Canadians have no access to — and wouldn’t want to! Most of us can see through their partisan perfidy.
I’m hopeful that common-sense Canadians of all stripes will know, come election day, that their best interests are going to be honoured and protected by a majority CPC government under the able leadership of Prime Minister Stephen Harper.

  4. Arcade Fire is a glorified garage band that is only popular because there isn’t anything else happening in music these days. If their fans need to get political direction from this band, then it also speaks volumes about their intelligence.

  5. Quebec indie rock band Arcade Fire won a Grammy and a Juno this year: Whoopdee-doo …

  6. Arcade Fire is a glorified garage band that is only popular because there isn’t anything else happening in music these days. If their fans need to get political direction from this band, then it also speaks volumes about their musical IQ.

  7. Unclemeats comments pretty well sums it up. You win the most comprehensive comment with the least amount of word award for the day. Cheers

  8. ‘because uh, like, there’ll never be free legal cocaine available to all the people under a conservative government.’

  9. They are some kind of Quebec Welfare Band. 99% of Arts and |Farts in Canada could not survive a week without Taxpayers Cash. In other words they are nobodies, and are legends in their own minds. Last election Harper talked about cutting back on money to the Artist Welfare Class in Canada. They all went toxic over the thought of being forced to support themselves. They are very comfortable as Official State Parasites.

  10. “They are some kind of Quebec Welfare Band. 99% of Arts and |Farts in Canada could not survive a week without Taxpayers Cash.” etc, etc.

That retty well sums it up, RFB.

  11. They don’t look old enough to vote. Besides they kind of suck, so who cares? Now, more importantly, who is Nestor Pistor voting for?

  12. Alice Cooper said it best and I paraphrase. ” Rock n rollers are morons. They party all night and sleep all day. Anyone who gets their political advice from a musician is an even bigger moron.”

  13. This is just another sign of how boring this election is. I thought the party-vote subsidy would light a fire but apparently it hasn’t. And they wonder why voter turnout is so low.
Arcade fire is a trendy rock band listened to by those who think themselves trendy or wish they were trendy. Amongst the trendy, it is trendy to hate Conservatives in general and Harper in particular. The circle of trendiness is complete.

  14. If that’s the way the game is played, then I have tomorrow’s 2,700 news stories. The headline could read as follows: “Buy music … from anyone but Arcade Fire, says solitary guy with a computer.”

  15. …won a grammy and a juno this year…next year I’m sure they’ll be in the running for a nobel peace prize. I hope they aren’t a bunch of capitalist pigs that charge money for their music and concerts.
I have heard of them, but I’ve never heard any of their songs, (at least knowingly), and I’m sure they suck as much as bieber. (had to go and watch one of their videos…peeeeuwww. terrible. Just a bunch of dope smoking barber starvers with no talent at all)

  16. Those who pretend to be in the arts never like adults … it implies responsibility, self-reliance and even some intellect. Those things do not appeal the jejune.
Have the Arcade Fire (implies music for gamers … boring) received their Canada council grant yet? Trashing Harper will put them in the running.

  17. My husband spent four hours researching how to file a complaint against CTV ala Janey baby. Here’s a link that gives you all the tools you shall need to file a complaint against those in Liberal Media who are using their unlimited media power to electioneer for the Liberals: http://www.cbsc.ca/english/documents/prs/2009/090527.php
Follow the links at this site, and read the case files CTV has already been found to be Liberally baised so they have a case history.

  18. Beat me to it Old Spice, good memory. This band my kids listen to, the front humanoid trys to look an awful lot like Hitler, unsure of what gender it is, but if I was looking for political direction I’m sure I would overlook these CBC funded disease infested media losers for advice. Just as I overlook CBC CTV Globe Star and the rest of the Toronto media for everything of substance. Globall Warming Y2K yawn.

  19. An indie band from Quebec doesn’t like Harper or the Conservatives – wow, how eminently newsworthy! Stop the press!
I suppose they could always let us know how much they love the BQ, after all – they’re great for Canada, right?

  20. The members of Arcade Fire are just trying to be good Canadian progressive socialist weirdos with bad hair and a Utopian dream where we all ride bicycles, grow our own pot, live in mud huts and vote for the Green party.
Arcade Fire are the darlings of every arts grant tax-payer rip-off program ever imagined by the socialist bureaucrat lesbian freaks who hand out money to idiots who sing the praises of anti-Americanism and anti-capitalism.

  21. Bands should stay out of politics. If only to not alienate half their potential audience. Especially if that suck as bad as those guys!

  22. I think Arcade Fire’s fan base is either too young or too intellectually challenged to vote.
Anyway, when these airhead yodelers start shilling for partisan causes, they should expect partisan backlash. I suspect this gaffing group have sold their last record in Western Canada.

  23. Gee, I was wondering which way to vote. Glad Arcade Fire (whoever they are) gave me the info on this election.
As in anything leftist whether it be media, unions, NDP, Liberal, and especially “BANDS”, if they’re against it, I’m for it.
Thanx again, Arcade Fire, I can vote Conservative now.

  24. Too many reporters?
I don’t think so, I haven’t seen any covering this election. What I have seen though is a whole gaggle of anti-Harper editorialists.
    Not a reporter in sight!

  25. Like I said a couple of weeks ago – only a matter of time before those political experts, the “arts community” start putting their 2 cents in….Mary Walsh, you’re up next…then Michael Moore.
I mean, Piers Morgan had that renowned political philosopher, Eva Longoria, on his show talking American politics the other day….thank God she finally enlightened us with her brilliance!
Heard of Arcade Fire, also heard they were from Quebec, then thought – they probably SUCK. Don’t know what they sound like, don’t plan on it.

  26. Forget Arcade Fire. Before I vote, I want to know what Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears think.

  27. I listened to them after they won a grammy , I had never heard of them either.
I do appreciate their music, they’re good.
    I couldn’t believe I’d like them but I did.
Their political advise is a Nanna Mousqkouri/Rita McNeil cover of “Friday” however.

  28. Now that they are celebrities, in their own mind, they think entire populations are just panting with anticipation waiting for every thought that comes out of that mind.

  29. Do they know about Ignatieff’s IPod tax.
Arcade fire is the hottest thing today, but like any of their genre will be in the bargin binn in a year!

  30. What more do we need to urge people to vote for Harper. As Alice Cooper once said – Most rock stars aren’t very bright and I wouldn’t put much weight on anything they have to say – or something approximating same.

  31. Nothing but a drive-by slurr.
Has he publicly substantiated his reasoning? Of course not.

  32. Funny how we’re all talking about Arcade Fire, and not about the fact that Canadian “reporters” are telling us that Arcade Fire’s voting preferences are news.

  33. My son listened to them when he was a teenager. I’d say the majority of their fans are too young to vote.

  34. Rose @ 10:06
The CBC isn’t a member of the CBSC, so the CBSC has no jurisdiction over them. Only the federal government has jurisdiction over the CBC. Basically, the CBC ombudsmen. Basically, the CBC sees over the CBC and we all are forced to live with it.
Only massive and constant pressure can kill the corp.

  35. There is no need for the media to report the opinions of any members of the ‘arts community’ since we already know their opinions. What they don’t seem to realize is that the growing demographic in Canada is retirees and those are the people whose opinion counts more, since many of them actually vote. Perhaps they will start reporting the views of ‘retired celebrities’ (ie has-beens).

  36. a) Arcade Fire are self made millionaires, so the welfare rock thing isn’t at all fair.
    b) They’re actually kind of noted for not buying into the rock star lifestyle, so the dope smoking thing isn’t fair either.
    c) Musicians do not forfeit their right to brains and/ or opinions simply because they get successful. The alternative is an entire musical landscape full of people saying nothing about anything. Arcade Fire don’t have an obligation not to alienate any of their audience – it’s *their* audience, that they’ve been building, since they first started selling out venues six years ago.
