Hey, this is just like when Shoppers Drug Mart gives out those free samples on Antibiotic Taster Thursday.

Are these people smoking in public? What if some smart alec lights up tobacco on this hallowed ground? Think of the fall out if something like that were to happen? It could happen…Heaven knows…
I think I want to be a Judge..$300 and I get all those free samples…Get to vote on the Queen of the party…this has a nice vibe!

Yes, natural drugs are still the best. Pharma just synthetically tries to copy nature.
As for recreation…Same thing…Have you ever gotten hungover smoking weed?…How about spitting up blood? Or uncontrollable morning shakes? Headache? High blood pressure? Diabetes? Cancer?
Now, “law abiding” drinker to come and lecture about “gateway drug” in 3…2…1…
“hi john, I hope you get terminal stomach canser.”
Leavingthat appalling nastiness aside, bedbug — learn to spell.
And learn some facts. Marijuana CAUSES cancer. It raises the risk of lung cancer, especially in men, and according to recent studies it “likely increases the risk of testicular cancer, prostate cancer, cervical cancer, a type of brain tumor, and the risk of leukemia in the offspring of women who use it during pregnancy.” Nice, huh?
‘Scientists continue to investigate the medicinal properties of THC… while avoiding the adverse effects of smoked marijuana.”
So come back to us when it’s in a harmless pill form.
The druggies get right testy about any threat to their escape from the real world 🙂
If I could change one plank in our Party’s platform, it would be that we consider legalizing personal use of cannibas. It’s an odd irony that we are ok with the legal use of alcohol, given all of the misery that product brings with it, simply by doing what it is chemically supposed to do. Yet we can’t seem to get our heads past a “Reefer Madness” sort of thinking that has nothing to do with reality. Most of the misery that comes through the use of cannibas is through laws that serve to stain many otherwise law-abiding citizens. Is it not time to take another look at this issue as Conservatives?
@Right Honourable Terry Tory, you’re absolutely right, Marijuana is NOT a gateway drug. I believed all that propaganda too before I tried it. The anti-marijuana commercials do a great disservice by lying to kids about it’s effects in order to scare them from trying it.
Kids think, if they lied about marijuana they must be lying about crack too.
I also find it funny how someone who labels themselves “libertarian”, seem to believe in dictating to me what I can/cannot do with my own body.
Another rebutall, “well it’s against the law you criminal!”, so is speeding.
There are plenty of dangerous drugs out there, marijuana is not one of them and the sooner those on the right wing understand this the better.
I am a staunch libertarian/conservative and I smoke pot, just thought I’d throw that out there to help dispel stereotypes.
I’ll wait for Morphine Mondays and Soma Sundays, thank you very much. They don’t affect your lungs.
“And learn some facts. Marijuana CAUSES cancer.”
Does not, these studies have been refuted. BTW you don’t need to even smoke marijuana to get it’s effects, you can consume it orally through food or even through vapor.
“The largest study of its kind has unexpectedly concluded that smoking marijuana, even regularly and heavily, does not lead to lung cancer.” http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2006/05/25/AR2006052501729.html
I bet you had to skip past those results to get to your propaganda. Giving out false information DOES NOT help your case, you can’t scare people from the truth.
Total deaths resulting from Marijuana = 0
Why aren’t you demonizing cigarettes and alcohol? Because some piece of paper says that’s legal to consume so it’s fine? Use your head.
The last time I was under the influence of cannabis I cast a vote for Pierre Trudeau and I have to take that with me to my grave. “No harmful effects”……riight.
I smoke weed now and then too, as a libertarian I don’t think of myself as a criminal any more than a guy who sells his own wheat to someone other than the CWB is a criminal. however I don’t think it should be legalized for the reason our society can’t handle booze, tobacco, gambling ,porn, (there are people who are addicted to eating furniture for christ sakes)without falling victim to their lack of control which ends up costing the rest of us to take care of them. weed has a lot of misconceptions about it as well as a whole new victim class already in place which would make it too easy to exploit.
I want the food concessions on the grounds.
let’s see there are over three hundered dangerous side effect’s and ingredient’s of cigarett’s and most of what is in a cigarette is in mary jane .
The science may not be settled as to the full effect’s of mary jane but please people DO NOT tell me that iti s harmless to you , It to me is not different than drinking booze they are both bad for you yes yes a glass of wine a day yadda yadda .
No body in this room can tell me that smoking pot is good for you i will tell you that back in my dope smokin day’s i was as paranoid and freaked out as you could get …here we are today a scientifically prooven fact that smoking pot increases ones chances of becoming a paranoid schizophrenic by up to 700% .
Having said that i have freinds who smoke dope that i will not be around casue they are to retarded and just don’t make sence , then i have other friends who smoke pot and wired up my garage and the inspector came as said he had never seen such a nice wiring job done ….
drug’s affect different people differently this i know i will never give anyone the time of day that tries to tell me that majic mushrooms or pot or hash or hash oil or any of the “natural drug’s are good for you please just becasue it grow’s in the soil does not mean that it is harmless to you or your body if that is the case all of you pot heads and drug addict’s

that is just to back up my point that just becaseu it does not instantly kill does not mean it can’t do damage to you and oftem these natural drug’s have slow creeping effect’s .
If you want to smoke all different natural drug’s i say go for it , but there are law’s there to protect you from yourself , and if you choose to ignore them than that gives me one more reason to privatise health care. i am so sick of the rehab ,and the therapy and all of that that i have to pay for i was lucky i quit while i was still sane and now i do realize how those “natural” drug’s can effect you unfortunatly the science show’s and overwhelming negative effect on the human body ..but there are exceptions …i will not work with someone who is high nor will i work with someone who has just had a liquid lunch becasue they are proven to decrease your human performance and abilities . Why do pot smokers make such a big deal about it .
Actually, if you replace pot with booze and add country music, the Cannabis Cup is the Craven Valley Jamboree (or Hootenanny in the Hills in my day) but with less vomit and fewer fights…and no mud if they’re lucky.
And the winner is..uh What???
I am not sure if there are any winners but I suspect these are all examples of occasions where a lot of people get lucky.
“There has been pills for sometime now Ellie.”
So these “patients” are demanding the right to SMOKE it because why?
“BTW you don’t need to even smoke marijuana to get it’s effects, you can consume it orally through food or even through vapor.”
So you demand people have the right to SMOKE “medical” marijuana because why?
If this wasn’t a recreational hallucinogen would you still be full of fervour for its “medical” legalization? Glad you’re so full of tender concern for sick people. I’m sure that has nothing whatsoever to do with your drug habit.
As a libertarian I think the government has no business in the populace’s gardens. I myself do not smoke/bake/make tea with the stuff, but feel no need to curtail others from doing so, just as I have no need to curtail anyone’s use of alcohol/prescription recreational drugs.
I tend to judge people on their actions, how they treat each other and care for their family, community. I could care less if their brownies have an additive. NOYB.
I tend to judge people on their actions…
Me too, if they want to intoxicate themselves with drugs with long lasting effects, I want them put away for the thirty days until the effects wear off so they can’t harm the rest of us.
Seems to me that a lot of the comments here have entirely missed Kate’s point; that being the sheer hypocrisy of holding a fun fair to promote “medical” marijuana. Ever hear of an aspirin fair? Or an insulin fair? Me neither. But I’ve sure heard of wine festivals and beer festivals. Oktoberfest, anyone?
I rode on one of the Washington State ferries last week, and picked up one of those nickel advertiser papers from the literature rack. If it weren’t for the ads from “medical marijuana” vendors, and ads from doctors who would basically guarantee to diagnose you with some condition that “marijuana treatment” would “ameliorate”, the little paper would have had about half the pages it did.
The entire “medical marijuana” racket has become nothing more than a beard for people who want to toke up without running afoul of the law.
It’s high time we simply cut to the chase and legalize the cultivation and sale of pot for recreational use. Treat it exactly like alcohol. We could change it from being a net drag on the economy to being a net benefit.
I tend to judge people on their actions…
Me too, if they want to intoxicate themselves with drugs with long lasting effects, I want them put away for the thirty days until the effects wear off so they can’t harm the rest of us.

Ummmm and how exactly is someone partaking of a doobie, as opposed to a beer, harming you fiddlefaddle?
Personally, I’d much rather deal a guy high on pot than a drunk. In my experience, violent drunks are far more common than violent pot smokers.
It’s bad for you, though. I’ve had a couple of friends who were heavily hooked on pot for years – treating depression in both cases – and they’d have been better off if they’d never seen the stuff. It should be legalized, but I wish people would admit that legalization will increase the number of people who try it, which will increase the number of people (small, but real) whose lives it ruins, for example by triggering or aggravating a latent psychosis, as paul in calgary suggests. Remember as well that we live in the kind of society that will pay irresponsible people to be chronic potheads and tell them they have no control over their lives.
I never liked the stuff so it’s nothing to me personally.
fiddle – we’re talking marijuana, not crack.
Oh, yeah, and “medicinal marijuana” is a total scam, duh. Just legalize it already.
Today coming home from the range I stopped at the sign where there was already a car waiting on the left side. He does not move. He is looking at me and his passenger too. They both had joints in the mouths. Both around the age of 18. I had to go, they would not move, no way. Only after 10 to 15 seconds they finally made a left turn. It’s epidemic already, legalization won’t increase user base by much, maybe 10%. Everyone who wants to smoke dope already does.
Just legalize it already, end money supply to the drug mafia and relieve our budget of SWAT teams doing drug busts.
There are real risks with any drug – legal, illegal or prescription so I have no doubt that marijuana is going to be a problem for a certain percentage of users. The best way to deal with this problem is research into improving mental health treatment.
(for the record, I am neither a big drinker or a pot smoker – although I am thinking of taking up pot in old age to ward off crankiness and chronic pain)
Ummmm and how exactly is someone partaking of a doobie, as opposed to a beer, harming you fiddlefaddle?
Well, old woman, the effects last for thirty days. Drivers are crazy enough already. Why do you think companies fire workers who test positive?
Fiddle dee dee,
Black Mambo has it right, we are talking MJ not heroin or crack, alcohol stays in your liver for a very long time, as far as I know the same could be said for MJ however I hardly think someone is high for 30 days or the drug dealers would only have costumers 12 times a year…who could make $$$$ off such slooooooooow inconsistent repeat business?
Black Mambo,
I think their are waaaaay to many folks self medicating all manner of mental illness, which includes depression. We need to do away with the stigma of depression and other mental illnesses so more will seek professional help instead of burying/trying to manage their mental pain in drugs, which includes alcohol.
I want them put away for the thirty days until the effects wear off so they can’t harm the rest of us.
That’s odd…the only people I worry about doing harm to my friends and family are nut-jobs that want to “put them away” for smoking hippie-sh*t.
old woman …alcohol stays in your liver for a very long time…
You obviously don’t know what you’re talking about. Even with a very high alcohol level there is no measurable alcohol left in the body after 10 hours.
I think the cannabis cup should go to the libertarians. I mean, hugging up the left like that…all inclusive, and all…give cannabis a chance…
fiddle, do you seriously think someone who smokes a joint stays high for a month? It wears off after a few hours.
Fiddlesticks,
You obviously have no idea what you are talking about. Libertarians are not interested in regulating others lives while the Left lives to regulate.
Alcohol is a poison, it gets processed by the liver, it’s effects on the liver can have lifelong implications, my apologizes if I was not clear enough for you.
But really you think folks are high for a month after smoking a doobie? Seriously?
old woman Libertarians are not interested in regulating others lives while the Left lives to regulate.
Yes, but just think of the cannabis in common you have with them. I’m sure you could make a compromise after a few puffs…you want to stay in the running for the Coveted Cup…
Fiddle crab,
Now I understand! YOu have a reading comprehension issue as I have clearly stated that I do not smoke/bake or make tea with the mighty weed, (nor do I partake of alcohol.)
You might get that broken sense of humour and imagination fixed, it’s starting to show.
Libertarians are too smart to compromise with progressives. They know that progs will refuse to pay their own way and then have a temper tantrum unless everyone shares with them.
I have clearly stated that I do not smoke/bake or make tea with the mighty weed…
Well, it does impair memory…
Libertarians are too smart to compromise with progressives.
They’ve conned you into helping enable their legalization crusade. Who’s smarter?
Equating Libertarians to the left is like saying because a donkey has a mouth and it eats and you have a mouth and eat therefore you must also be an ass….bad example….
old woman
Well no, not the same. More like a mule. Or a hinny.
We need a branch of the Conservative party, and the Saskatchewan party that believes in legalization. Not a new party, just change the old party to support getting rid of the pot laws. Think about it: all those hippies who vote hold their noses and vote NDP because of this can now vote the way they really want to: right wing! There are way too many right wingers who smoke pot to NOT do this! I get that the right wing started out against pot because pretty much all the pot smokers were socialists, but that has changed decades ago! There is really only a very small minority of Canadians who support the pot laws.
Okay, I’m a right winger, Conservative and SaskParty supporter, who is dead set against the pot laws. Arguments:
1. It’s bad for you. No, it isn’t. Nobody in history has died from smoking pot. Now justify the legalization of tobacco and alcohol.
2. It’s a gateway drug. True, but only because it isn’t legal. The person you buy pot from also sells other illegal substances, like cocaine. Why would they continue to sell you pot with a certain profit in it when you can get that same customer hooked on coke which has a much higher profit in it? If I could buy pot from my drugstore, I would never have to talk to a cocaine dealer, now would I?
Some comments about the posts here:
1. Pot keeps you stoned for a month. No, it doesn’t. The THC can be traced for that long in the bloodstream, but it has no measurable effect after about 24 hours, worst case scenario. Usually 4 to 6 hours is the norm.
2. Alcohol doesn’t affect you after a few hours. Try telling that to the cop after you lose your licence 2 DAYS after a bender! That happens, you know. Alcohol, depending on how much you’ve consumed and your body weight, can stay in your system, measurably, and with noticable affect, for up to 4 days after consuming the last drink. Get educated!
And finally…why can’t conservatives look at this with some common sense instead of just blindly following some pre-historic dogma without question? I believe that just as law and order issues in general are the left winger’s weak spot, blind adherence to the party line on pot is the right winger’s blind spot. Ask yourself: what is or would be better for society as a whole, keeping the pot laws, and all the monetary costs that that implies, or repealing the law and saving that money, as well as taking away one more reason the government has to snoop in your closet!
Are these people smoking in public? What if some smart alec lights up tobacco on this hallowed ground? Think of the fall out if something like that were to happen? It could happen…Heaven knows…

But really you think folks are high for a month after smoking a doobie? Seriously?

Like I said…mules 🙂
