  9. I saw something similar to this about 10 years ago, on highway 901, just east of Calgary. I was driving west, and ran into a wall of black topsoil dust. I barely had time to find an approach to pull onto. When it hit, the visibility was close to zero.
    Things have changed since then. The prairies are recovering from the drought. I just wish we still had a decent growing season. A little warming wouldn’t hurt my feelings one bit.

  11. A Nation of Takers, Not Makers – Though this column is written about America, I think it VERY much applies to Canada too. And frankly, I believe our upcoming election is a referendum of sorts on this issue. Do we live in a land where:
    1. More people realize that each of us must contribute more than we take back from the gov’t.
    OR
    2. More people feel that the gov’t owes them more than they need to contribute.
    If the Tories fail to win a majority gov’t then it is clearly #2. 🙁

    STRATHROY, Ont. — A peaceful march down a typical smalltown main street erupted into an angry confrontation Saturday that spells continuing trouble over Ontario’s green energy plan.
    About 80 protesters, many shouting, some in tears, repeatedly drowned out beleagured Liberal member of provincial parliament Maria Van Bommel, as she tried to defend her government’s wind-turbine policy.
    No matter what the Lambton-Kent-Middlesex MPP tried to say, protesters cut her short, demanding she work to stop construction of wind turbines until independent research proves they’re safe.
    “I am really pleased to see all of you. I think certainly the sun and weather is helping out a great deal,” Van Bommel said when she saw the crowd.
    “It’s passion, passion,” a protester yelled.
    “The truth brings us out,” another shouted.
    Even when Van Bommel engaged protesters one on one, she got an earful.
    Stephana Johnston, 81, told Van Bommel she lives on the north shore of Lake Erie, Ont., and has been forced out of her home because turbulence from dozens of nearby turbines are affecting her sleep and health.
    “We are suffering and it is a horror and you are responsible because you agreed to the Green Energy Act,” Johnston said.”

    That was a very powerful piece by Caroline Glick.
    From this story the less wise among us (including myself until only very recently) will learn that you simply cannot reason people out of a position arrived at irrationally; and what friendship is and isn’t.
    She’s speaking here in Vancouver on April 10th. My wife and I are attending. I’m in love with Caroline Glick. It’s OK, my wife knows.
    In case you’re not aware, Caroline Glick was herself a IDF soldier with a command of some sort. She’s from the Obama-Ayers neighbourhood in Chicago, by the way.

    Both the Hotlum and Wintun Glaciers have nearly doubled in size since 1950, says this article on Wikipedia. The Bolam Glacier has increased by half, while the Whitney and Konwakiton Glaciers have grown by a third.
    Scientists first became aware of these growing California glaciers in 2002, and I began writing about them in 2003. Now, eight years later, most media outlets still refuse to acknowledge that these glaciers are growing.
    After this year’s record snowfall, it will become harder to continue the deception.
