The president says it happened a few minutes after he left her hospital room Wednesday evening.
He should visit her again.
By then she’ll do cartwheels, find another galaxy withe her naked eye, leap tall buildings,and see through concrete walls!

haven’t heard the speech, but it was enough for me to see the opportunistic t-shirts, and know from the live-blogging that there was far too much cheering going on for this to be a ‘memorial’ service. Perhaps Krauthaumer et al could put the text into context: Obama was exploiting the attack on a Democrat. No feeling for the other families that lost a loved one.

I disagree with your analysis as far as the GOP needing the economy to tank. IMO, it’s quite the opposite. A rebound in the economy will in fact be a confirmation of the GOP and the Tea Parties argument for lower taxes for everyone. The MSM didn’t do BO any favors beating him over the ‘tax breaks for the rich’ reaffirming the Left’s desire for higher taxes.
Where I do agree with you, is the likelihood of BO serving a second term. I suspect that the American people will be loathe to give any political party a majority in all three branches of the government. I expect to see GOP majorities in both houses and BO in a second term as POTUS. In my view, that is where the smart money is.
In the end (2016) BO will take credit for the work of the GOP houses et la Bill Clinton and so on.

MND, I did NOT watch or listen to the speech (the sight and sound of Obama makes my skin crawl and my blood pressure rise): I had Ralph Vaughan Williams on VERY LOUDLY while my husband started to watch. The Indian grandstander was too much for him and he changed the channel.

Like Bluetech, I stopped any attempt to watch or read the speech or the analysis of same after seeing video of “fans” running to get good seats and T-shirts, banners and crap at a memorial service. Shallow, base and tacky just don’t cover it.

Before I was in the engineering/construction industry I spent my entire adult life in the service/retail industry where there is an expectation of clean and cordial language. Needless to say, this expectation doesn’t exist in the eng/cost industries. I learned very quickly that you must fight f’bombs with f’bombs else you’ll not get your point across. Unless you speak the same language as those you engage, your likelihood of successfully getting your view across is almost nil. So yes, being the BIG guy doesn’t help when you’re dealing with little weasels.

The event was a pure campaign tactic. It was not a memorial. It was an act of locating Obama among The Victims of the Right. Never mind his pablum talk about ‘not attacking those who differ from us’. Wow – that was a clear tactic of setting up a gulf, a huge division – between WE (Together WE thrive..all in blue Democrat colours)…and ‘them’.
Did Obama, for example, two-three days ago, step in and speak against the hate-fest on the media? Nope. Not a word.
But his speech last night didn’t refer to ALL Americans – those who agree with his socialist agenda and those who disagree. It was a clear divisive speech. WE…versus…them.

Will Obama run for a second term? I’m still not sure. The point is – IF he cannot do the upfront salesmanship of the BackRoom Gang who run him..then, he’s useless to them. Fox has a story out today that states that while 1 million homes were foreclosed last year it has come to light that 5 million are 2 months or more behind in the mortgage.
Think about that, couple it with the story Kate had late last year about how all the mortgage documents were shredded and nobody can prove who holds the papers and we have a ticking time bomb that will explode this year.
Two years is a long time in politics and it won’t be forgotten that those 6 million homes didn’t have to go under water while Obama focused on healthcare reform that very few wanted, DADT, Open Borders, and Cap n Trade to the exclusion of jobs.
In short, Obama’s improvement in the polls will be short lived.

Obama can give as many messianic speeches as he wants; he can claim that the dead will rise and open their eyes – just as he previously claimed that the oceans would cease to rise and peace would reign….But reality is mightier than fiction.
I disagree with the pundits who praised Obama’s speech. As I said, I didn’t watch it because I can’t stand his abuse of Americans; but I read it and saw brief particles of it.
Obama was in campaign mode; that’s the only mode – apart from vacations, golf, parties etc..that he can handle. He certainly can’t handle committee meetings, press conferences or debate; he famously leaves all of that to others.
The focus won’t be, always, on Obama-on-Stage. On Obama trying to define Himself as a Victim..similar to the victims of Loughner. Obama the Victim..of Palin, of the Tea Party, of Limbaugh. Remember – Obama has been furious with all of these people; he has openly told them not to criticize him. That’s what the Memorial was about: Obama as a Victim of the Right.
Will he run again? As I’ve said – the key to that is whether or not he is functional to the radical Democrats. His only function is: to keep them in power. He’s already lost them the House. Will he lose them both next time? Then, he’s useless to them.
Unless they use these two years to take away more freedoms from Americans and enable the presidential power to function as a dictatorship, sidelining Congress. This has already been attempted in the Stimulus and Health Care..and Obama’s ‘executive fiat’. But if Obama doesn’t provide this BackRoom Gang who run him with their power – then, they won’t keep him.

But when you take it apart, you see that there is nothing REAL there. Hope and change are properties belonging to the imagination, to the fictional world of the future. But we don’t live just within words. We live with the hard dust and rocks of reality. Obama doesn’t live in reality. So- his speech last night was Vintage Obama. Virtual Emotion. Just like his speeches during the 2008 campaign speeches.
But when you take it apart, there are some niggling problems.
First – is the positioning of himself and the audience – as victims. WE versus ‘them’. This is also basic Obama. [Shades of Black Liberation Theology; the notion of Victim is basic to BLT and Obama has been steeped in this!!!] Remember – this is basic Obama; we see this in all his speeches – when he refers to ethnics fighting against their enemies; when he talks about ‘greedy rich people’ and so on.
We see Obama-as-victim (and by extension, any who follow him) both because of the sentence in his speech which referred to ‘We’, and his silence during the past few days when the left media was hysterically accusing Palin, Limbaugh, the Tea Party, of being morally and actually implicit co-agents in the massacre. As president, Obama ought to have spoken up and stopped this rhetoric. Instead, he allowed it to develop into a ‘truth’, and he embraced it in his speech, by setting him and those who are WE, as victims of hate speech.
Obama said: “What we can’t do is use this tragedy as one more occasion to turn on one another. Rather than pointing fingers or assigning blame, let us use this occasion to expand our moral imaginations, to listen to each other more carefully, to sharpen our instincts for empathy.”
Wait. Who is he speaking to? The left or the right? After all, the rhetoric over the past few days was all about accusing the RIGHT of lacking empathy, of ‘pointing guns’. And, does NOT assigning blame to Palin, the Tea Party, Limbaugh, the GOP…require an ‘expansion of moral imagination’….or a careful consideration of facts and logic?
So, it was vintage Obama. My point is that Obama did not rise to the occasion and move out of his virtual world of ‘hope-and-change’ rhetoric and into the hard world of facts, rocks and logic.
Back in Washington, with its committee rooms, its development and vetting of policies and programs, its analysis and focus on facts and figures – all of which Obama avoids, leaving such to others…Obama’s rhetoric is irrelevant. He has ONE function for the Democrats. To win them power. If he can’t do it – he’s out.

By the way – I’ve never heard of the term ‘blood libel’ being bound to references to Judaism, but I’ve heard it used a lot with reference to ethnic and religious hostilities, by one tribe versus another tribe.

If by unusual places you mean from status quo entrenched legacy Republicans, then allow me to point out that Sarah Palin is a threat to them as well as to the Democrats.
They’d rather have Obama for a second term than Palin as President because Sarah represents real change and they don’t want that.

We’ve seen this in his inability to deal with the realities of the Gulf Oil Spill, his inability to deal with the actual (not virtual) results of the stimulus bill and the health care bill – disastrous results in both cases. But, Obama has separated himself from these because, in reality, it was the BRG that developed them. Obama just presents The Words.
So he’s managed to separte himself from these policies and programs…and locate himself only in campaign-style rhetoric. In a strange way, since he’s absent so much from ‘facts and daily life’ – the public, I think, views him as ONLY a preacher. As only an evangelistic preacher who comes out on the occasional Sunday to preach and then – goes away.
Now – all that is expected of Obama is the Sunday sermon. He’s a total failure in every single aspect that involves real life – in foreign affairs, in domestic, in the economy – everywhere else.
So – given this confinement of Obama to the pulpit, then, who/what is the public holding accountable for acting as the government? It isn’t Obama.
And what is interesting and shows that this speech was a campaign speech and not a memorial is that the rhetoric of hate against the right, against Palin, the Tea Party…continues! So much for Obama’s ‘words’ to stop ‘assigning blame’. But that’s what is continuing!

Well, apparently this has become the new narrative. I heard several news reports claiming that Ms. Gifford opened her eyes for the first time immediately after the president’s visit. Some from the same radio stations that reported on her opening her eye three days ago. Creepy how quickly they can forget.
The Youtube video Kate posted yesterday evidencing the death wishes against Palin has been taken down “…because its content violated YouTubes Terms of Service”.
Obviously it was taken down because it is more evidence in favour of Palin’s “blood libel” claim.

I think that something may have been reality. Others commented that they sensed a paradigm shift. Even those who usually see through Obama have bought into the fiction he delivered last night.
It’s like the nation is so confused that fiction or fantasy is preferable. It’s like people are scoring the political drug he is pushing and using it to numb the pain/reality of unemployment, foreclosures, assassinations, war, cold weather, oil spills, invasive pat downs & scans, attempted terrorist attacks, trillions in debt, loss of their global identity…the list goes on and on; a type of shock and awe attack has been delivered upon them.

“In a post last night, I criticized the use of a Yaqui prayer as the invocation to the memorial service in Tucson. In doing so, I failed to give the prayer the respect it deserves. Although I did not intend this as a slight to the religion or to the Yaqui tribe, it can clearly be interpreted as one. For this, I sincerely apologize to my readers, to the Yaqui tribe, to all tribal leaders and Indian people, and, specifically, to Carlos Gonzales who delivered the prayer. I regret my poor choice of words, and I have removed the post.”
What’s going on here? It’s as if the Lefties have hacked into the computers of their opponents.
lookout – the vitriol by the left against Palin, the Tea Party, the GOP continues. Just check out the NYT and go to Hot Air and check out some of the links to the left. Obama’s words – virtual as they are – had NO effect on the left.
The left, after all, thinks that his words about ‘watch your tone’…refers only to Palin, to the Tea Party, etc, etc.
The vitriol continues and in a strange way, the left will feel supported by Obama. He did nothing to stop their own vitriol – either before or after his speech.
And he did nothing to stop the carnival campaign of the ‘memorial’. He ought to have stopped the cheers and told them ‘that this was not the time or place of such a reaction’. Full stop. He instead, accepted the cheers.

Like I said in another thread, what’s happening in the States is like a horror movie, with Obama, the Zombie-in-Chief.
I think I’ll add the Body/Mind Snatcher-in-Chief. I’ll bet that George Soros and his legal team have something to do with this Stockholm Syndrome response by conservative commentators. Here, we have the Right being villified and writers sympathetic to the Right seeing clearly what the Progressive (sic) Left is up to and then they’re apologizing the next day for just telling the truth.
Creepy. Ghoulish. Scary. Bizarre.

The real Yaqui used to be one of the most reclusive tribes in Mexico — I know this because I searched for them some 45 years ago when I was a hippie so I could smoke mushrooms with them — couldn’t find ’em anywhere ’cause they were almost extinct.
Real Yaquis following their “ancient traditions” in modern Tucson? Gimme a break. They’re just hippies like I was, couldn’t find the real tribe either, so they decided to pretend that they were it!

Speaking of FOX: on Bret Baier’s Special Report tonight, no one really went after the president. The format of the “memorial service” wasn’t his fault because it was set by the University of Arizona.
GIVE.ME.A.BREAK.
The president is the President of the USA: what he wants is what he gets. All the details of what happens when he’s on site are vetted: if he doesn’t want it to happen, it doesn’t.
I gather that the indomitable Laura Ingraham’s going to be on Bill O’Reilly, who always seems to provide cover for the president. If Laura doesn’t say, “The Emperor has no clothes”, well, I’m not sure what I’ll do!
heh – I just watched Laura Ingraham on O’Reilly – and she said exactly what I said:
First – she said it was clearly used by Obama and his team as a Campaign speech – the start of 2012. I fully agree.
Second -Obama could have and should have stopped the cheers and etc last night; he didn’t.
Third – he’s done nothing for two years to stop the vitriol by his leftist side against any and all who disagree. Nothing. In fact, he’s been part of it, with his accusations of racism in Arizona, his accusations of greedy doctors cutting off limbs, his antipathy to anyone who is wealthy (you’ve made enough); his exhorting hispanics to ‘get your enemies’.
I note that he ought to have, immediately this week, issued a press release from the WH asking the media to STOP the vitriol. He didn’t. He ought to do it now – that it’s continuing. He’s silent.
Fourth – the vitriol is continuing. Check out the NYT today, check out other papers. Blogs, pundits.
And – she told O’Reilly that she disagrees that Obama was talking to ‘his left’ in his speech when he asked them to tone it down. He was referring to the right. And again – the vitriol is continuing.
Obama is a manipulator, a pathological liar; he has no sense of reality or reference to the real world in his speeches. He says what will work..to control you. That’s his agenda: control. He’ll say whatever is needed to achieve that.
Last night was a campaign speech. Obama used that event to portray his side as Victims…it was exactly like his ‘hope and change’ ideology where the people were ‘victims’ of Bush. There’s no change.
ET, right on! Laura was MAGNIFICENT—and Bernie Goldberg was excellent too. Neither gave Obama a pass on his pro-lefty, divisive self and administration. I feel relieved to hear the truth being told. Whew!
(Bill is a fence sitter, at best. When he began to equivocate, as he always does when the subject is Obama, Laura called him on it—and pointed out that he is soon to interview Obama. She was no-spin. Bill is all-spin.)
Hannity’s just said that the president’s speech was, in effect, picture perfect–but that it altogether contradicts all that Obama has said and done up until now. Whew! I’m feeling better.

If you go to FrontPage.com, there’s a speech transcript of Stanley Kurtz about his book Radical in Chief, introduced by David Horowitz [a former commie himself] — all about Obama’s marxist roots. It’s about 10 pages but very well worth the read.
I mention it because in the first 2-3 pages your puzzlement about the PowerLine guys will become clear: the great hesitancy of conservatives (esp. Country Clubbers like the PowerLine guys) to see Obama as a socialist. Fears of being labelled McCarthyite, John Birch, etc. We see the same thing in otherwise smart cats like Krauthammer.

His take on the polling data is very credible, I think, as are his ideas on the T-shirts.
NB: The fact that the T-shirts have the OBAMA logo and would have been approved and the manufacture shepherded by the Obama administration, well in advance, PROVES THAT OBAMA IS NOT INNOCENT RE THE CIRCUS GOINGS-ON in Tucson.
