Via American Thinker;
Fresno is the agricultural capital of America. More food per acre in more variety can be grown in the fertile Central Valley surrounding this community than on any other land in America – perhaps in the world.
Yet far from being a paradise, Fresno is starting to resemble Zimbabwe or 1930s Ukraine, a victim of a famine machine that is entirely man-made, not by red communists this time, but by greens.
State and federal officials, driven by the agenda of environmental extremists, have made it extremely difficult for the valley’s farms, introducing costly environmental regulations and cutting off critical water supplies to save the Delta smelt, a bait fish. It’s all driving the economy to collapse.
They won’t rest until Americans begin starving to death. (But I repeat myself.)

Really, comparing this to the Ukrainian man-made famine is a bit much, don’t you think? Whatever this is, it isn’t even close to communist mass murder on an industrial scale.
Only in California, would a law be created to make it illegal to grow food.
Legalized suicide from the left.
California, morally and financially bankrupt
The Law of Unintended Consequences was made for the eco-Greenie-Warmistas of this world.
The more they “improve” things, the worse it gets.
it isn’t even close to communist mass murder on an industrial scale.
Americans will starve last.
Think about the surplus food that isn’t going to be available to ship to the next Haiti or Pakistan or Somalia when they have a disaster.
tom paine;Would you be happy if the famine was worse than the Soviet induced one in the Ukraine ?
Fred, I don’t think these consequences are necessarily so unintended.
You’re right, Lorenzo.
When Kate says, “They won’t rest until Americans begin starving to death.”, she’s a bit off. They won’t rest even AFTER Americans begin starving.
In fact, that’s when they double-down on the old “we need emergency government powers” bit ….
Soylent Green isn’t too far now it seems.
Sure, let’s harvest the oceans…oh wait, they are polluted.
It won’t last long, I think. State of California is teetering on the brink of complete insolvency, so the Central Valley farmers will be able to ignore regulations pretty soon. They’ll be like moonshiners in the ’30s, running illegal garlic and strawberries into towns by night.
Starve? They wouldn’t even give up filling their swimming pools to save jobs. The effect on the Valley is like the Oklahoma of Steinbeck.
It could never happen here, or in the USA?
The fact is, it didn’t “just happen”. It isn’t that the rain “just stopped” Or the climate changed to something else Or imperialists printed fake money to debase their currency…
It was done in Zimbabwe with intent. By a man that Jimmy Carter decided should be the President. Remember the song from Stevie Wonder, “Master Blaster” from Hotter Than July?
(“Peace has come to Zimbabwe, Third world’s right on the one, Now’s the time for celebration, ‘Cause we’ve only just begin”) Their optimism, D.O.A.
Here’s the start of it:
1. Destroy the engine of productivity.
2. Bury the truth.
3. Crush dissent.
4. Legislate the impossible.
5. Teach hate …. and more here:
http://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2003/12/how-to-kill-a-country/2845/ (The Atlantic? of all places! that ought to make this bullet-proof from the trolls)
It was all done, none of it “just happened” to the country everyone knew as “The breadbasket of Africa”
almost sounds like, Too big to fail?
It didn’t “just happen” in The Ukraine… it was done to them, by their overlords, the communists in the Soviet Union.
It didn’t “just happen” in California, it’s been legislated and it’s death by a thousand cuts, while the only thing really needing to be cut is the government in both CA. & DC.
>>not by red communists this time, but by greens
There’s a difference??
The EPA and the Endangered Species Act (ESA) came to life under the Nixon Administration. Once a species has become “listed”, they become an excuse to destroy property values and preclude almost any activity. Listing itself becomes a green political priority and allows for much junk science in the process (eg. Polar Bears?) Even though the irrigation channels are man made and the fact that they have been colonized by this species, the ESA gives the listed fish exclusive domain. This is a form of pantheistic church-state union.
I predict a future civil war over this issue as eventually the primacy of species must return to humanity as the current path leads eventually to human extinction. Preserving species is fine and scientifically feasible but unless conducted with some form of domestication, any surviving humans will become slaves to a gaia-fascist state.
Greens, being the most greedy species on Earth can’t accept preserved representative ecosystems as refugia and at the same time tolerate land use elsewhere with a focus on production to the exclusion of some species. Being watermelons, the greens will eventually be responsible for their own violent destruction along with much of the environment as they are on track to kill the Capitalism responsible for the prosperity and widespread affluence which allows a general social tolerance for their demands and costs. We are now over the top and on the downward side of that bell curve of social tolerance and the goose is now sick.
I’m starting to see the humor in it. There’s a Three Stooges aspect to the Greenies I didn’t properly appreciate before. Gallows humor, of course, but humor nonetheless.
Green is a religion, and like all false doctrines, it leads only to death.
I wouldn’t hold my breath for change in Cali anytime soon…….remember, they elected the leftard retread Jerry Brown. A second kick at the can to finish off what’s left of Cali.
Don’t sell the fish short. They have more common sense than their saviours.
What mark in calgary said @ 8:01 and albertaclipper said @ 8:19. Death by a thousand cuts is right.
Most of the genocide in the Ukraine took place during a two year stretch in the early 1930s.
Here’s the report on which the Walmart figures are supposedly based:

Notice anything?
I guess when you’ve “got all the facts”, there’s no need to fact check, right Kate?
Where did it start in the Ukraine Mr. Tom Paine. Did it start at one or two families or maybe an entire village before it starved out millions. Idiot leftie, oh, I didn’t see the robbery, so there are no theives around here. University lieberal arts grad are ya.
Here is a story by a California man (retired Uni Prof.) who seems to have woken up one day and wondered what happened to the farms and the “diversity”.
It’s well written (via Drudge).
http://www.nationalreview.com/articles/255320/two-californias-victor-davis-hanson?page=1
The Economist had something on this a while ago. Essentially, there are two Californias: the granola crunching, green liberals who live along the coast and the industrious hardworking class who live in the interior. Californians have known this almost since their beginning, even talking about splitting the state in the late 1800’s. This water story is symptomatic of that divide.
Oooohhhh! I hates govments!!!!
Now where did I leave my hoe?
It’s rather simple. I live in Fresno.
Democrat Tony Coehlo’s farms on the west side of the Valley are the only ones getting water. Part of that little Obamacare buyoff.
The east side, majority Republican farms lost their water.
The ‘drought’ edict is still in effect, even with two years of record rainfall. We’ve not built water storage ponds in years- most of our excess from rain and snowmelt simply runs out to the ocean. Maybe we’re saving the oceans from ‘rising acidity’?
Sorry, folks, but it’s a squeeze play from coastal Democrat bubble billionaire mafiosi- BO donors- starve the peasants, indeed.
The largely nonwhite welfare crowd and state unions depend on Democrat crumbs to survive. Funny, that.
Oh, and sanctuary cities really means- the Dem mafia has cut a turf deal with the cartels.
Alzaebo, I hate reading this sort of thing. It’s a snapshot of what is killing the country.
California’s Central Valley is also one of the most politically conservative parts of the state. Even most of the Hispanics in the Central Valley are Republicans.
Take a look at the recent electoral maps. Votes by county reveal that most of California is Red. It is only the densely populated coastal urban areas that flip the state to blue.
I understand and accept that it is people, not land mass, that elect our government. However the county electoral maps demonstrate far greater regional political diversity than our statewide electoral offices would indicate.
Rural, conservative working folk who feed the masses are at the mercy of the denizens of blighted urban wastelands who are net consumers, not producers, of wealth.
This isn’t merely an eco-war, it’s a political war. It’s an example of what Vladmir Lenin referred to as taking control of the “commanding heights” of a political-economic system.
Not surprisingly, “Commanding Heights” is also the name of a leftist-oriented PBS show on the global political economy.
