70 Replies to “Join Us In Saving The CBC”

  1. I have watched CBC’s Neil MacDonald, their Washington correspondent often. The last time and it was within a week ago, it seemed to me to be an absolute hit piece. I know it was against the Republicans or their supporters. I was so livid (silly me). I turned it off. It seems he does hit pieces on the right wing, or even a moderate form of conservatism.
I now cannot remember the exact subject- old age I guess. (chuckle)

  2. DanBC: “What the wiz Davenport failes to recognize, has already been smugly alluded to. The CBC -IS- the ECHO Chamber…….”
Wrong, DanBC. Whether it’s the CBC or Fox News, the NY Times or the National Post, HuffPo or SDA, reading/watching/listening to only those news sources whose editorial slant leans in the same direction as one’s own politics — THAT is the echo chamber.

  3. Well let’s see, Fox News has Alan Colmes, Juan Williams, Judith Miller, Bob Beckel, Susan Estrich, Tara Holder, and other commentators who present and defend the liberal argument. Who is MSNBC’s Sean Hannity?

  4. Don’t confuse d’port with the facts, his mind is made up, and his claims of echo chamber are empty based on the number of posters here who DO catch the CBC enough times to know they are biased and lazy.

  5. As I probably have commented here before,’the CBC is dying. Why?
Because its audience is dying. Literally. Wait another decade and they will be as dead as front page challenge.
Fading into Irrelevance is the proper fate for the MSM.

  6. @ DAVENPORT
well i say it is natural davenport i read leftist stuff ,i watch as much as i can take of leftist news ..but why would anyone want to watch something they don’t like ?
If i was a liberal like you why the heck would i watch fox news ?
or why should i watch the alphabet news channels when i know what they are spewing out is someone elses leftist views and probly there own that is not fun nor is it entertaining nor is it news .
The reason i side with conservative views is because 99% of them are fact based ,or fact based opinions ….leftist’s are just opinions and idea’s most 99% of the time .
You didn’t acknowledge what i said above and it seems to me that you are like other liberals when faced with fact’s you hide or just disregard them .
Truth is if it was fox instead of cbc i am sure the leftiies would be in our shoes cring that they want there channel to ,in FACT i know this simply becaseu as in typical lefty behavior they don’t want fair and baalced or even factual stuff they want only there views because according to them fox news north is hate speech period that is there claim as to why it should not be allowed here . Does that sound fair to you ?
Simply because they don’t agree with those views they want them banned ,disallowed permanently .
it is not conservatives calling for the banning of cbc 99% of people in here are saying they don’t want to pay for those views and in contrast i would not want lefties to pay for views they don’t like let both survive or fail on there merit with the people.

  7. to defeat an adversary you have to know what they are thinking.
    ~rockyt
Nah, you only have to know where they live and hit them when they think they’re in the security of their home.
I don’t watch any TV at all and I know what the enemy thinks.
If someone knows how to avoid knowing what they think then I’d like to know how to avoid it.
It isn’t as if they aren’t forcing themselves and their opinions into every facit of our lives by any/every means possible.

  8. “Just lie back and think of Trudeau.”
So what’s Maggie T supposed to do? Lie back and think of Mick?

  9. If we did not continue to fund the CBC it would have been gone long ago.
You know, us calm and quiet Canadians. If we stood up and DEMANDED they defund the CBC we would get what we wanted.
We put up with this stuff.
Multiculturalism. Dual language at enormous cost.
That and slavish adherence to idiocies from the CRTC in which we cannot watch American channels but our tax dollars can pay for clones.
In addition to the CBC which we stopped watching long ago, I have a really hard time stomaching HGTV and The Food Channel. Canadian versions. Cannot GET American versions and every show that was worth a pinch of salt is gone , replaced with re-runs every day of plain and simple garbage. And we get to pay for that too out of our tax dollars.
CBC thinks Debbie Travers new show and ‘Battle of the Blades’ will save them but they are wrong.
I would love to see Don Cherry and Ron McLean leave and follow the Hockey Night in Canada song.
Now, CTV, Global want us to pay for them , too, so they can get a cut of the taxpayer pie one way or the other. Either directly or through a levy on our cable bill.
We watch Fox and glad to pay for it. We are sick of all manner of propaganda and moronic reporting that insults our intelligence.
Anybody who hires the likes of a Heather Mallick has something seriously wrong with decision making abilities. The US networks are full of those exact types.
I cannot imagine who thinks Olbermann or Matthews or Maddow have anything at all to contribute.
I certainly cannot believe some of the things I hear they say and do. ( I absolutely refuse to watch US network television , news or shows. None of it. It is pure garbage.)
We will be happy to pay for Sun TV and happy to kick the left , lib preachy and sanctimonious snotnoses off the dial first chance we get.
When will they get that they are not providing anything that anybody wants to watch? They are just like all the networks everywhere, whining to Nanny State to pay because they cannot get advertisers because viewership has fallen off…
I get so infuriated with our local papers and their lefty slant and our local talk radio that I only listen when I hear that something important is going to be discussed just so I can write an e-mail and let them know they do not fool us with their attempts to pretend they are not biased after spending weeks doing just that.
I lay the blame for the HST in BC being such a gong show of propaganda at Vander Zalms feet and his clown car cohorts who were gleefully aided by the media out here. They stoked the fires and sat back smiling like cheshire cats at the turmoil they caused.
I do not know exactly why Gordon Campbell resigned but it sure had nothing to do with any wrongdoing.
The misinformation propaganda has been so fired up it has raised a spectre of vitriol and violent remarks which the media is only too happy to focus on almost exclusively.
THIS is how governments are brought down so I hope they are happy with the destruction they have wrought.
Ironically, it will bring a lot of grief to this province which has enjoyed prosperity under the wise guidance of Gordon Campbell and the coalition he held together these nine years.
THIS sort of thing is just what the CBC and other left leaning organizations of all stripes, tv, radio, newsprint have as their agenda.
    Tear down.
    This absolutely MUST end.
IF it is to be ended we have to educate ourselves and our children as to just exactly what it is we want our government to be and how we are to achieve it and stop allowing the cacophony of mindless ‘1984’ media noise to prevail.

  10. The difference between a slut and a whore…
George Soros didn’t have to buy the CBC – they broadcast his “New World Order” for free.
Thank God we are still allowed to own rifles…
And thank Harper for not being a communist (“progressive”) new world leader.

  11. Right you are Dwight @4:22. Georgie Porgie Soros wants to stop Fox North – georgie was behind that petition to stop Fox north. Gorgie porgie and Mo strong are old pals – Glen Beck connected them on his show one day.
Glen presented a great proposal on his show today and I think that Canadians should follow up this idea here in Canada. Glen suggested that the patrons of the gov’t (we, the people) should demand that all M.P.s (on all levels) and public servants slash their salaries and ‘entitlements’ to LESS that those earned by soldiers since the soldiers are the citizens that maintain our safety and our Liberty. Second, all bureaucrats and silly (civil) servants should cut their salaries to the lowest common denominator to what those of us who work in the private sector earn. How could they refuse? Our soldiers would get a big raise (good) and the gigantic burdon of the gov’t employees, hug around taxpayers necks, would give taxpayers a big break via a big cut in their slice of the tax dollar(good, also). I think that we should not ask; we should DEMAND.
CBC should, of course be shut down and sold because nobody watches it – it is boring and filled with vitriol for it’s patrons (we, the people). Any TV/radio/entertainment venue worth it’s salt can fly on it’s own wings – the market will support those that are any good. Set those old rosters and hens free!!
Like most people here I watch Fox News because it is informative, and gives a fair and balanced presentation of facts. I get angry and have a horrible day if I even listen to those mealy mouthed human haters at CBC, CTV, and global. I dislike the Newfoundland TV the least
because most of the hosts appear to be friendly people who are not lunging out of the set to spit in the eye of the viewers. The Canadian TV people have NO sense of humour (unless something seedy or twisted comes to their attention); they are flops, nobody enjoys listening to sour old frumps and fops lecturing behind their botox masks.
Let them (CBC)go out on the free market. No more public funding…full stop.

  12. IMHO Mr. Beck is a bit of a loose cannon;
but a loose cannon can hit a bullseye on occasion, and I for one (as a Canadian) believe he has hit the mark. He has explained every “riot out of nowhere” by (purchased) protesters and who is organizing them.
And by Occam’s razor it makes sense.
Too bad “common sense” is lacking in North America.
    [d]

  13. Dwight – has the ‘loose cannon’ exposed someone/something that you cherish? Maybe you don’t like Glen’s ‘style’. Do your own research on georgie Porgie and Unca Mo – I did – Glen is dead right. Glen Beck hits an awful lot of bulls-eyes for a loose cannon, IMO.

  14. Jema54 – I don’t have to explain my opinion of Beck, and as to your question- no, I am already aware of the condescending leftist douchebags in my life, being related to several of them.
That being said I believe you misinterpreted the meaning of my previous post. Mr. Beck’s colleague, Mr. Hannity, made a comment (jokingly) about it,
    – you have to take the guy with a grain of salt, or you will be jumping at shadows
    [d]

  15. I don’t like the shadows – and have not liked them for a very long time. Rule of thumb for all Conservatives everywhere, from Sarah Palin:
“Remember that some in the media will love you when you stray from the time-tested truths that built America into the most exceptional nation on earth. When the left in the media pat you on the back, quickly reassess where you are and readjust, for the liberals’ praise is a warning bell you must heed. Trust me on that.”
Pretty much what Kate says at the top of this blog.

  16. Don’t know if anyone is still reading this thread, but I have to add this:
My landlord dumped cable TV last month (kept the ‘net, thank god). He felt the $150+ we were paying for all the premium channels, Rogers on Demand, etc. was too much. So, now I’ve got rabbit ears.
I live just north of Toronto. I get CTV fine. I get Global fine. I get multicultural broadcaster CFMT, City TV, and even lowly public broadcaster TVO – a little bit of interference on those, but they’re still watchable.
But CBC? You’d think it was the middle of February, there’s so much snow on the screen. Even on channels, like Hamilton’s channel 11, where the picture is bad, I still get audio. I can’t even get audio on the Ceeb.
Truth be told, it doesn’t trouble me much. I get home late from work these days, so I don’t get a chance to watch Jeopardy! during the week, and on the weekends, the only thing they have on that’s of interest is hockey, which I am listening to on the radio.
Important cultural icon, undeliverable over the air in Canada’s largest metropolitan area. Knelman should crawl back under his rug.

  17. Jema 54-
The best way to deal with shadows is to shine a bright light on them. I prefer my 5-cell maglight… ’cause if the shadow is a bogeyman, a violent smackdown is next.
And that is where I think we can agree, that a spotlight of any kind is better than being kept like a mushroom (being fed shit and kept in the dark)

  18. There are any number of things Canadians as a whole are forced to pay for, no question the CBC itself but also one of its favourite political parties is another. It angers me that a regional political party whose # 1 priority is the breakup of this country recieves from the public purse the same amount of money as do other political partys yet only run candidates in 1 province.
I believe the litmus test aught to be as follows: You receive $1.90 (or whatever the number is), per vote times the percentage of ridings you run a candidate in. So if they only run in quebec with say 100 seats, then they only get ~1/3 of the 1.90. Lets see how long the Bloc can survive on peanuts.!
Same aught to apply to the CBC…so many viewers..?? only so much money.! At this stage, time to shut them down as no one watches…ergo, no more monai.!!
Yep, I watch/listen to Fox as well .. a lot. We desperately need a right of centre voice in Canada. Sun TV, Bring it on.!
