Just lie back and think of Trudeau.

Or maybe, “bend over and think of Trudeau.”
In our home we have nothing BUT Fox News…no CBC…no CTV…EVER.
We have chosen to actually PAY extra cable fees in order to watch Fox.
It’s been 2 years of Fox and it’s great.
I would certainly pay to have a Fox News North.
Helen Wrote “In our home we have nothing but Fox news…………..”
All of life’s problems have always stemmed from listening to what we wanted to hear, and not what we neede to hear.
Helen, I loathe the idea of paying for what passes for television in this country, but I would for some real hard news sources. Do you know of any provider or package deal where I could get the bare minimum necessary to get Fox?
Fox News on Rogers seems to have a large number of commercials plugging CBC Newsworld. Seems on par with Bell’s brilliant strategy of having their telemarketers constantly harass former customers who have bailed on them.
The writer had me up until “…for Canada’s most important cultural institution…”
Bring on the competition! No CTV & Global do not count.

[…….All of life’s problems have always stemmed from listening to what we wanted to hear, and not what we neede to hear…..]
Or do the problems begin when a political faction infiltrate and dominate the media. Elections occur, governemnts change and the media marches on as that faction’s propaganda asset…..promoting that faction’s agenda, discrediting the new government.
CBC and the alphabet networks of the US are sterotypical of this with their continued propagation of the AGW hoax and politically correct message.
What the usual suspects lable FOX’ bias is actually a refusal to censor reality.
Heh if CBC didn’t advertise on FOX I wouldn’t even know they were still on the air. You can force me to pay for them but you can’t force me to watch them.
The only problem I have with the CBC is that it is part of some basic package I am forced to pay for.
Over the years I had researched the background of some CBC television stories and found the evidence
lacking in veracity. Given that, I have stopped watching their channel.
I do not need to listen to game players to any longer know they play games. I do admit I watch very little television. News bites do not tell a story.
I do resent having my tax dollars going to an organization that demonstrates that they have a different vision of the country I love than I do.
The open exchange of different views is an admiral
goal depending on the format and the forum with which those views are exchanged.
The CBC television network does little if anything to enhance understanding or knowledge of the issues facing Canada and the world.
It’s time they went the way of the DODO bird.
I suspect that with the unseemly leftist pressure to sink Sun News, the real worry is that a true alternate TV news service will make CBC irrelevant and the viewer numbers will sink low enough to justify the feds selling it off. If there’s one thing a tenured leftist propagandist fears it’s being ripped from the public teat.
The volume of snarling leftist denouncements of “Fox north” is directly equivalent to CBC fears of imminent demise.
I watch them all.
As a good general once said, to defeat an adversary you have to know what they are thinking.
I don’t bother with the CBC anymore. Its goody two shoes preachy tone got grating long ago.
I watch pretty much only Fox News. I have pay extra for it but it’s only something like $2. So who cares?
I used to get infuriated at the Canadian media (ALL of them – TV radio, newspapers magazines) for being biased.
Now I just don’t care. I just ignore them. I’m tired of being angry. I just don’t listen to them anymore.
There’s a poll at the Star link,”Do you think Remembrance Day should be a statutory holiday”
Yes 56%
No 44%.
It figures.
You mean the CBC puts on show they think people WANT to watch? I thought it was some form of low-grade torture.
“true alternate TV news service will make CBC irrelevant and the viewer numbers will sink low enough to justify the feds selling it off”
Good Lord …. if the CBC is not yet irrelevant, I must be misunderstanding the definition of the word.
I think that the viewer numbers have sunk well past the point where the CBC should be turfed.
Get rid of the parasite and get rid of it now!
No CBC or CTV here either. Fox for news.
I had to snicker when the writer of this article spoke about a terrific Trudeau show starring Colm Feore….
Are these people living on the same planet as I am?
And move hockey night in canada and ron mclean and don cherry to a netwrok that appreciates and respect’s there views like sport’s net then reaquire the hockey theme from tsn and voila we will have the good ol day’s again
on saturday night i bet that is the highest rating of all seven day’s of there puke the cbc doen not have to go but they need to survive or die on there own merit when faced with that reality you will see them change 180 .
Stop funding this crap if you won’t fund an equally opposing view (sun tv or fox north) then you should not fund this crap either pain and simple
Yeah, it’s not so much CBC represents a point of view I disagree with, it’s the stupidity of the way content and the presentation that gets on my nerves. (that and it’s my tax dollars being spent to pay for one side. THAT annoys me.)
When I can identify the bias and counter the arguments on the TV talking head without looking up from my laptop, it’s a pretty sure thing they are morons.
The CBC and their elite few friends should not feel threatened by Sun News as their viewership is mostly a core left-lib-green population (and hockey fans). I would think that CTV and Global will be hurt the most. They are essentially CBC clones, slanting from the same lefty, watermelon, narratives minus the welfare payments.
“Canada’s most important cultural institution”???????? The CBC provides a subsidised forum for no talent hacks who can’t cut it in the real world because no one will pay to watch their crap, and advertisers actually want viewers before advertising. The CBC provides a forum for crappy revisionist history told through the lens of how downtown urban liberals want it to be, rather than how it was. The CBC provides a place where no talent hacks can celebrate the greatest Canadian no talent hack, Margaret Atwood. No wonder Atwood wories for the future of the CBC, how else would one ever hear of her?
I listen to Fox News Channel on Sirius satellite radio. Sirius also has Fox News Talk radio. What’s interesting there is the CBC is part owner of the Canadian Sirius service! Sirius also has Sirius Patriot which has Beck, Wilkow, Hannity, Levin, NRA radio and more. Yes, Sirius Canada has an American show (Cam and Company) devoted to gun owners. And if you want Howard Stern, who was removed from Canadian radio several years ago, the CBC provides him on Sirius satellite radio! Maybe just dump all the TV and radio, but keep letting them provide Sirius.
Sorry about the advert.
Like Helen nothing but Fox.
Well worth the price to pay
for that channel.
I’m with the ‘know your enemy’ camp. I catch the 20 second sound bites of Iggy/Rae on the car radio occasionally just to give credence to my arguments that they are not telling the whole story. Also screaming at the radio helps keep me awake for the drive after a late shift.
@rockyt
Not when they are defeating/destroying themselves.
If the CBC is Canada’s most important cultural institution, both CBC and Canada are doomed.
The very last time I tuned in CBC radio, they told me it was 10 am, (which I knew) and then began an interview with Yoko Ono. How Canadian is that? And how timely?
The comments on that Red Star article are not going well for CBC.
Let the lefties keep CBC, but on their dime and not mine.
Fox News is watched in our home. It is well worth the price. Occasionally CTVNewsNet, but after fifteen minutes I either fall asleep or want to barf and quickly switch to Fox.
Hopefully that Fox News north is able to start broadcasting and comes on soon.

The echo chamber is warm.
The echo chamber is safe.
The echo chamber is Mother.
The CBC is a political entity, not a news or cultural institution. Maybe it should get the same deal as politicians; put the CBC on the ballot and let their subsidy be based on the number of votes they obtain. It might give them a financial incentive to be balanced instead of biased. If they cannot attract enough votes to survive, well, then I guess they weren’t much of an icon after all.
“Just lie back and think of Trudeau”?
Cue nightmares!
been interviewed many times… with cbc ,sound guy ,camera guy ,interviewer, producer teched-out van, assitants ect. ect. a big expensive production……… with most other news its leaner interviewer does it all, with maybe a camera guy
The interesting thing is that the writer seems to realize that the Ceeb is self destructing. That in itself is quite an accomplishment for a red rag contributor.
Beyond that … it’s all the usual BS from a taxsucker POV.
“If there is one essential role a public broadcaster must play, it is to dominate news coverage.”
Just lie back and think of Trudeau
cue davenport’s sexual fantasy.
CBC doesn’t that stand for:
CAN’T BE CANADA

CBC Canada Used to Live Here. Much like Detroit and California they are beginning to think of the sink. Did like Due North though.
Or Due South ..I think. Been a long time since the CBC made me smile.
Davenport’s comment sums it up best:
The echo chamber is warm.
The echo chamber is safe.
The echo chamber is Mother Corpse.
Somehow when I think of Trudeau, lying back is not an option, I want to rise up and boot something.
Davenport is an idiot.
Why would people bother with CBC CTV Global and other canadian MSM services when they see them as hopelessly flawed, biased and increasingly at odds with their own values?
I watch Fox because I’m sick of being preached to by elitist, left wingers who think they are more intelligent, and compassionate than everyone else.
But really? I don’t have to justify *WHY* I don’t support the CBC. I just have to switch the channel.
Dipshits like Davenport can make all the snotty comments they want. THAT won’t make me switch the channel back.
john: “Dipshits like Davenport can make all the snotty comments they want. THAT won’t make me switch the channel back.”
I don’t care if you switch back or not. I just want to you to be aware that your criticism of Canadian MSM news outlets as being hopelessly biased is completely undermined by your avowed willingness to be preached to by elitist right wingers who think they are more intelligent and patriotic than everyone else.
It’s one thing to desire a mass media that truly strives to be unbiased and even-handed in its coverage. But that’s not what you want. You adore bias, as long as it leans in your preferred direction.
Davenport, Fox is only ‘right wing’ if you accept the canard that the others are ‘centre’. I would wager that there are more left wing points of view represented on Fox than there are right wing POVs on all the other networks combined.
@DAVENPORT
I agree davenport i noticed that as well and i think i wouldl iek to take the stand from this angle i don’t really care about the cbc it shouldl iveo r die on it’s own merit so if this country is truley ful of lefties then so be it but atl east give me the option of some righty news as well instead of forcing everyone into one snad box have two one for the righties and one for the lefties .
Having said that i truley do agree that the programing on the cbc is terible no matter what slide it is on and if it is my tax dollars i wouldl ike some balance and no hockey night in canada and don cherry do not balance out.
And generally “elitist right winger’s genrally are more patriotic and more intellegent than lefties it has been proven and the reason is becasue lefties very often think with there heart and put aside fact’s or reason .And maybe they aren’t stupid but they certainly prove time and time again that they don’t apply themselves when it comes to critical thinking i often time solve the epidemics or pandemics they cry about with a few sentences at the t.v. …and my buddies and i have a good laugh .
And yes i do see the bias in here sometimes to we critisise the same people for the same thing’s ,and do the exact same thing’s and dsay the exact same thing’s .
It is difficult though becasue most people who comment on here don’t do that but there are a few
I just usually don’t watch news but it would be very nice to get the story with no slant and since you and i both know it aint gonna happen i at least would like to have the choice to watch witch slant i best think can deliver fair and balanced news (tounge in cheek smirking with a little chuckle) 😉
It’s always great to watch the Left’s own ideology to eat away at itself from the inside.
As a registered contrarian, I was recently asked by a neighbor and university prof, “how is it you know so much of what is going on in the world”? I smiled and responded… I start my morning watching Fox News, switch to Fox radio, then at noon I switch to Rush…and I read almost everything that supports the arguments presented on these forums.
I am well informed and can disolve most lefty arguments….
Not bad for a hi-school drop out.
Sorry about the spelling.
This is one of MANY reasons CBC should be canned, or privatised.
Joel at PTBC takes one for the team and actually watches CBC news, and this is how they covered the GWB book:
http://www.proudtobecanadian.ca/index/weblog/19083
It is mind boggling just how unprofessional they are , and they don’t even try to hide their agenda. There is nothing subtle in Nancy Wilson’s so-called ‘report’
My least favourite piece of furniture, Davenport should be put out on the curb.
As for Mother Corp., it is not worth the one billion price tag. Yes- the news programs have nice production values but so what? The reality is CBC is a big government bureaucracy that only gives lip service to its mandate to provide Canadian content to all Canadians. If one ripped Hockey Night in Canada from its schedule, there is nothing left.
Do most Canadians watch Little Mosque on the Prairie, the National or any of their ‘local news’?. No. Pull their funding. Let them fight for survival like the rest of us. If they wish to survive, I suggest the well paid CBC employees buy the network and try to make a go of it.
If they wish to go the commercial route, they could perhaps consider offering programming that people want to watch. They could also look to TVO (which isn’t too bad- even big-head Steve Paikin) or PBS. Those stations rely on limited funding, limited advertising and subscribers.
We do not need a big brother network to forge our national identity. Leave that to North Korea. I am Canadian. Proud of it too. We have a great country. We don’t need to spend a billion bucks for Peter Mainsbridge and his gang to make it so. We make it so through our hard work and individualism.
BTW CTV is not much better. They only offer a steady stream of vapid American programming (hello Dr. Oz, Oprah, CSI etc.). Their news is quite left of centre and Question Period is a joke. Thank god for DVDs, the internet and Netflix.
Rant off.
Yeah, that’s just what we need, more taxpayer dollars wasted away on mini-series propaganda of “Glorious Leader” Turdo, sliding down bannisters and doing somersaults while simultaneously destroying Canada’s institutions and casting adrift the populace from their traditions and heritage while imposing unwanted and unnecessary social engineering schemes. Argh! The beast must die.
Leave the CBC alone people! It’s not like you’re forced to pay for it.
Apparently Davenport knows what the Preview button is for, at least.
What the wiz Davenport failes to recognize, has already been smugly alluded to.
The CBC -IS- the ECHO Chamber…….

Exactly.
As I have said here before. the CBC’s idea of a discussion panel is someone from the left, someone from the far left and someone from the lunatic left.
