  1. Polling consistently shows 70-75% of Canadians want the useless registry program scrapped. There should be no demonstration needed to carry out public will in parliament – unless elitists are running an agenda at cross purposes with democratic will.
God, I can hardly wait for an election!

  2. Any bets as to which rally the msm will cover? cbc has been touting the Dawson College keep-the-registry rally all a.m.

  3. Rob Ford at 49% in Tarawnta, Reaper. That should be an indication of how things will turn out for Iggy and Jack in a national election.
Which tells me they consider keeping the registry more important than their personal careers right now. Which is like, WOW! What could possibly be more important to Iggy and Jack than their own personal sinecures I wonder?
Planning something where they need a populace who can’t shoot back?
Things that make you go Hmmmmnnnn…..

  4. As I wrote to Senator Gerstein some time ago:
“Ihr seid Alle zum schiessen!” (You are all hilarious) or
This legislation should have been shot down in flames long ago!

  5. I think the goveremnet did not do a good enough job explaining the difference between a Gun License and a Gun registery, I heard that CTV numbskull Dan Matehson say it was silly to end the gun registery because we all register our cars and pets.
The urban Liberal elite do not know the difference
between the two. And they are supposed to be the smarty pants.

  6. This could lead to a Conservative majority. Only one party wants to eradicate it. The elites are spinning like the TP holder in Dion’s Mexican Hotel room.
I think the actions of the TO police chief sealed the fate of the registry. When the CBC carries a story of an artist they phoned 15 minutes before they showed up and seized his guns he used for art showed the mindlessness of it. The usefulness bombed, they lied about the cost. Comments were slanted badly but enough info got in.
Canada doesn’t need a Tea Party, the elite attitude makes them redundant. People, even the believers know this is a rotten program. It is a game to them. People are seeing that.
The Liberal rant about it being final said it all. We can’t win this one again. I love the smell of elite desperation.

  7. Exactly on the same calander date, September 22 1998, I drove to Ottawa from Woodstock, Ontario to a “FED UP” a Bill C-68 rally anti gun registry rally. Our estimated crowd at 30,000 thousand!
I have some of my own video footage.
Speakers from a tent set up directly on Parliament Building Steps were: “Reform Party” Leader Preston Manning, the Libertarian, Professor Pierre Lemieux, Lawyer Karen Selick and a few others whose names I cannot recall at the moment.
The biased at the time MSM totally fudged and underestimated numbers of protesters in their reporting.
I cannot get there today but one can be damned sure the still biased MSM will either not bother to report the protest or will once again misinform their audience
    Bet on it!

  8. The first embryo gathering of TEA Party North?…After all almost 3/4 of Canadians want the registry scrapped and the elites are not listening?
    One can dream, can he?

  9. “$66.4 Million for 2010/11
    Not 3mill”
The persistent trivialization, deflection, exaggeration and outright lies that have plagued this debate should be enough to make a sensible person realize that something stinks.
Even if the actual cost was only $3 million annually, how could any rational person justify spending this money on what is basically a useless exercise in bureaucracy?
If there is any justice in this world, each NDP member that “had a change of heart”, will lose his/her seat in the next election.

  10. Every Leftist MP who votes to keep the Gun Registry had better keep their pie-holes shut about deficit spending from today forward.

  11. Steve, you make a good point.
Pet licenses are a -tax-, not a gov’t service provided for a user fee. If they catch your dog out and about, the license tells them where to send the fine.
I have an un-licensed car in my driveway (Well three actually, its Gear-Head Acres here at Chez Phantom). This does not make me a criminal under the car-licensing scheme. There is no license required to -own- a car, or a hundred cars. Nor even to drive a car. You have to have a license to drive a car on a public road.
Licensing the -driver- is an acceptable cost, because it helps to control people with bad driving records. Licensing the car itself is merely a tax, it tells them where to send the speeding fines.
If a gun license were like a driver’s license, it would be a public carry permit. What we actually have is
    A) a tax
    B) a list of people considered potentially dangerous to the government because they own a gun.
    c) a list of all the dangerous sh1t those dangerous people have.
To get a license to have a gun you first have to prove you are harmless enough to keep them happy, and you have to keep proving it every four years. Note that despite you paying for the gun and paying all the tax, the licensing requirement means you don’t really -own- the gun. They do. They just let you keep it at your house as long as you behave properly.
The registration of each individual gun has no utility other than being a list of things to confiscate should it be decided you are no longer harmless enough. Oh, and it tells them where to send the fine if they capture your gun being used by somebody else. And its a tax.
To get a concealed carry permit in Canada you have to be a high ranking cop, a VIP Liberal politician, or good friends with one (as in you donate five figures to their campaign every year). Mere cops and back bench MPs don’t get carry permits, only “important” people.
The short Iggy/Jack argument: YOU are not important, YOU are dangerous and need watching. Just to be clear.
As we see this clown circus spectacular being played out on Parliament Hill today, it bears remembering exactly what is getting voted on.

  12. “It’s not the Eternal Flame. That’s in Washington. Ours is called the Centennial Flame.”
Canadians: always setting our sights lower.

  13. The other cost that has not been discussed is the inevitable upgrade of the gun registry computer system. From what I understand the major part of the 2 billion in cost overruns was setting up the database. Looking at the gun registry and Ontario’s e-health records fiasco, I see another billion or so being mismanaged into the hand of political cronies. I wonder how much of the Liberals LGR interest is about maintaining a lucrative future graft delivery system.

  14. As my hunting partner said when I was gloomy about the whipped Liebrals and Layton pleading with his minions “Great!!! This will insure a majority at the polls.”

  15. Did anyone really believe the $3 million cost lie?
At $40K/year that would be only 75 federal employees salaries and we can be pretty sure that how ever many are working for the registry they would cost tax payers more than that! Well if the Registry stays after today’s vote the cost will again be more ammo for the Conservatives.

  16. LC Bennett, the registry database itself can fit on a laptop. A relatively puny 4U web server is enough to handle the maximum load it gets every day. Say one rack at the outside most with super duper mission critical redundancy included already. Five racks scattered to different locations around the country for super secret ultra paranoid security.
Gold plate the whole thing, maybe $500 grand for the latest greatest hardware. Count in government graft and “shrinkage”, call it two million bucks. Installed. No business would ever pay that much.
Outrageous, cost-overrunning disastrous, most anybody ever paid for anything, ulta smokin’ custom diamond studded, platinum inlay database to run on it, $100 million. Double for government effect, $200 million bucks. Double that because its the Liberals, $400 MILLION samoleans.
Leading one to conclude that AdScam was -nothing- compared to the closet full of skeletons the two -billion- dollar Registry is. Plus $66 million for THIS YEAR, kids. In a recession! That’s with the CPC hating this thing and trying to kill it.
Kinda tells you who’s running this show, eh?

  17. Phantom:
Also the Liberal Media narrative is that there is no Gun control if you get rid of the Registry.
That is were they should have explained the difference between License Vs Registry.

  18. The numbers are consistent at MSN, CTV and CBC. 75% of Canadians voted against the registry.
    THE BRIGHT SIDE:
If the registy stays. 75% of Canada will have been betrayed by the opposition. Hope you all realize what that will mean in the next election. I look in my crystal candy bowl and see overwhelming majority for the CPC. I see ttears in IGGY and JACK’s eyes. I see Duceppe working on his English 101.

  19. Thanks for the illuminating post Phantom.
Since the LGR skeletons have been allowed to remain undisturbed, I suspect the skeletons were closely affiliated with VIPs in all political parties.

  20. One major difference between a dog license and a gun license is the SWAT team that breaks in your door during the night and points guns at your children as they step out of their rooms.
All other fines, jail sentences etcetera follow in suit, “if” no one in your household is seriously harmed.

  21. Could any of you good folk in Saskatchewan opine on IF this will affect Ralphie’s seat? After watching his presser this am,I cannot believe this man continues to get elected.I am really interested on how or if his vote is being covered in the province.

  22. Sammy Ralph’s seat is where the University profs, upper civil service and old money hang out. It is not representative of the Province. It’s like a Liberal isle in a big sea. I think it would take dynamite to get rid of Ralph. Even I hate him less than most Liberals because he is a good guy. Misguided but good.

  23. Sammy,
i agree with speedy about the liberal bastion in one area of regina, but disagree about the good guy thing….ralfy also supports the cwb…
the bugger just like to waste tax dollars…
    liebrals are good at that.
    i call him goodfornothingoodale!

  24. Is it normal to have 2 questions in a yes/no poll? The CBC poll Free Thinker talked about at 1:51 PM has 2, sort of.
When you go to answer the question, there are actually 2 questions above the box. And I quote:
“Should Canada keep the long-gun registry? Do you think the repeal bill will be defeated? Let us know.”
Then the first question only is repeated in the box.
    Curious, that.
    http://www.cbc.ca/news/pointofview/2010/09/long-gun-registry-should-canada-keep-it.html

  25. “Should Canada keep the long-gun registry? Do you think the repeal bill will be defeated? Let us know.”
I think people against the Long Gun Registry are confused by the double question.
The “NO” side of the vote seems to be in decline.

  26. speedy: ralphie is not a good guy…he brings new meaning to LIBERAL HACK…the fountain of verbal diarrhea could be used to describe ralph.. he will soon be outraged. he is only interested in his own power and hopes for a cabinet seat again.
harper will be able to say he tried to get rid of the registry ( he couldn’t have done less but now he has his issue) and the phones will be ringing for donations to the party which i hope everyone will tell him to take a hike….this is nothing more than a funding drive for the conservatives….i can hardly wait for ritz and anderson to make a run on the wheat board….. the result will be the same….WE TRIED…we need funding for a majority….i get tired of the games ( these guys are trash….i’m a real conservative)

  27. Anybody still of the opinion that the Gun Registry has any legitimacy should check out what Det. Sgt. Murray Grismer of the Saskatoon Police Service had to say when appearing before the Public Safety Committee in May, 2010.
He pretty much lays bare the bullshit trotted out by the CAPC (police chiefs), the Liberal Party, the David Millers, the academic elites, and the MSM.
Do yourself a favour and search YouTube for ‘Police on the Gun Registry’.
Or if you prefer, here’s the link:

    Posted by: Kate Too funny. Thought the same thing lol Which It fits our government to a t. Low expectations with no guts(O:}

  29. I would like to see more aspects of direct democracy introduced into our system of government. I think that if we are going to be stuck with minority governments where the legislative agenda can be vetoed by disgruntled opposition parties then we, the citizens, should be consulted to make these kinds of decisions.
Have a referendum. If I can login to a website and modify my tax return from 5 years ago, they why can’t I quickly login and participate in a referendum on this issue?
What is the worst part of our democracy? Career politicians ignoring the will of their constituents. We need to find ways to bypass them or marginalize them in the future. We need electronic referendums and we need the right to recall our MLAs and MPs.

  30. You people must be nuts — we need to keep the long-gun registry!!!
Haven’t you watched the news???!!! In Toronto in the last week alone there have been 5 shootings. All of them were by angry farmers visiting Toronto, who pulled out their .22 calibre “gopher-shooting” rifles from their pick-up trucks and started shooting law-abiding coke dealers and pimps up on Jane and Finch.
Stop violent White farmers from coming to Toronto and shooting our Black youth with long guns, NOW!!! Keep the long-gun registry!
    😉

  31. Thanks for the great analysis and information Phantom. You have smacked down the msm fools with comprehension and facts. Well done.
Watch Yukon MP Larry Bagnel today – he told us, in the last election campaign, that he would never vote to keep the useless, expensive gun registry.

  32. Thanks snagglepuss just watched that on Sask police.
    Also another you tube is
Rex Murphy on the Useless Canadian Gun Registry
He calls it like it is in this one
A useless waste of monies that will not stop the murders in Toronto.
Iam quite surprised the CBC let this one air & did not try to suppress this on youtube by copyright.
If you have not seen that one have a look

  33. I really wish that someone would ask the next persons who declares that “X number of cops were killed by long guns”,or “X number of females were killed by long guns”,this simple question; How many of these ‘killing’ long guns were registered?

It doesn’t make a whit of difference if the gun is registered or not.The gun registry saves lives ONLY when the registered gun is confiscated, and the angry person cannot find another weapon. That scenario does not happen very often. BTW,this Dan Matheson fellow on CTV is terrible and terribly biased on this subject.

  34. Oops, had the yeah and nay thing mixed up.
Still, many more people want this scrapped than kept. Were those 153 listening?

  35. So we can interpret the vote as
153 voted not to vote on Bill C-391
Thus 153 MPs essentially voted against performing their democratic function on Bill C-391.
See you all at the next election….and best of luck.

  36. bygeorge: “i call him goodfornothingoodale!”
I call him Ralphie Badbeer …
    It’ll make you sick.

  37. There’s a lot of blame to go around on keeping this useless liberal money pit, and as much as I can’t stand the Liberal propagandists in the media and Jack-ass layton and American Igg and that puke from the Separatist party, Ill save my real contempt for the so called Police Chiefs of this country. Those turds should really be ashamed of themselves. The Police Chiefs know this useless registry will not save one person, or make anyone safer, and will not help one cop be more secure in their duties. So many scumbags in positions of authority, a complete disgrace. The Police Chiefs should hang their pathetic heads in shame.

  38. So the standoff continues. Those who object to registering their guns, but have never committed any criminal act except ignore bureaucratic bungling, remain outlaws. Real criminals laugh at both the registry and the justice system. The anti-gun crowd will continue to promote the registry as a essential tool without it being shown to have any effect on gun crime.
Sounds like typical Canadian politics to me – focus on the useless, expensive symbols while ignoring practical, realistic solutions.

  39. “I would like to see more aspects of direct democracy introduced into our system of government.”
    ~Bob
    I’ve thought about that.
It wouldn’t be a good thing until conservatives have an equal voice in the mass media.
Most people aren’t engaged enough in the details of political issues and take their cues from the mass media.

  40. Have to agree with Oz. I haven’t really seen the Canadian electorate mobilized over a specific issue since Free Trade, the GST, and Meech Lake, all 17+ years ago. If it’s not big, it’s largely ignored by Joe and Jane Canuck. Or, it’s given only the most superficial of reviews.
Referenda by people only informed by the CBC and CTV would be awful for conservative causes.

  41. “Ill save my real contempt for the so called Police Chiefs of this country.”
Actually, they are beneath contempt. At one time, decades ago, they were real cops. Some of them may have even been good cops. Now they are more politician than police officer and have turned their backs on those that they are supposed to lead.
I wonder what would happen if the registry had been abolished and there was no resulting chaos and firearm mayhem. Would they have admitted that they were wrong?

  42. Wally J..
“The gun registry saves lives ONLY when the registered gun is confiscated”
..and that, my friend, is why the leftists want to keep it..confiscation is the name of their endgame.
The games afoot and there will be some very sorry Jr. Marxists come next election..
