    -Monbiot
Depends on which side you view it from.
    I think it’s a political success myself.

  2. “In 2012 the only global deal for limiting greenhouse gas emissions – the Kyoto protocol – expires. There is no realistic prospect that it will be replaced before it elapses: the existing treaty took five years to negotiate and a further eight years to come into force. In terms of real hopes for global action on climate change, we are now far behind where we were in 1997, or even 1992. It’s not just that we have lost 18 precious years. Throughout the age of good intentions and grand announcements we spiralled backwards.”
Can’t you just feel those tears welling up and trickling down your cheeks. Mo Strong and his cabal must be heaving in paroxysms of grief.
And “Kyoto” the dog must be baying at the moon… howl away won’t do ya any good. And who ate your ‘kibbles and bits’?

More like the awakening to the greatest junk science conspiracy the world has ever seen!
Reading the comments, Aussies were complaining of the carbon tax nonsense they are being saddled with from their political watermelons, meanwhile their largest trading partner is adding the equivalent of their country’s entire coal-fired electrical capacity every year. What gives down under, too much Fosters consumption?

  4. “Aussies were complaining of the carbon tax nonsense they are being saddled with from their political watermelons, meanwhile their largest trading partner is adding the equivalent of their country’s entire coal-fired electrical capacity every year. What gives down under, too much Fosters consumption?”
You might recall that the Aussies seem to believe they have a population problem too.
You’re right. It must be something in the VB and Castlemaine.

  5. Its sickening to see you astroturf monkeys celebrating the failure to act. You bastards are deranged. Get help.

  6. As long as globalist politicians continue to levy all manner of ‘climate’ taxes on us we ARE NOT ‘winning’.
You don’t defeat greed driven power mongers with reason or fact. They must be intimidated by public reaction to the point taxing or regulating for AGW or it’s newly mutatated forms doesn’t enter their rhetoric.
Climate taxing should be widely perceived in the political careerist cadre as a ‘career ender’.
When we accomplish that, we will have “won”.

  7. Did the final paragraph seem a bit ominous to anyone else?
“To compensate for our weakness, we indulged a fantasy of benign paternalistic power, acting, though the political mechanisms were inscrutable, in the wider interests of humankind. We allowed ourselves to believe that, with a little prompting and protest, somewhere, in a distant institutional sphere, compromised but decent people would take care of us. They won’t. They weren’t ever going to do so. So what do we do now?
I don’t know. These failures have exposed not only familiar political problems, but deep-rooted human weakness. All I know is that we must stop dreaming about an institutional response that will never materialise and start facing a political reality we’ve sought to avoid. The conversation starts here.”
From Hansen to Gore to Greenpeace, the AGW leaders are advocating for “civil” disobedience. With the amount good versus evil and end-of-the-world hysteria the AGW leaders have injected into this issue, they might want to rethink pushing for a “Will no one rid me of this turbulent priest?” solution. You’d think the Discovery Channel gunman situation would have made them more cautious.

  8. Imagine where the movement would be if they had decided early on to appeal to reason, rather than emotion.
We would be well on our way to a reduced carbon energy supply based on nuclear power. Ah what might have been. How many megatons of CO2 are opponents of nuclear power responsible for today and into the future?
Maybe you should just take skeptical questions seriously, and answer them. I have never yet heard a skeptical question from somebody who disbelieves evolution which wasn’t a trivial effort to answer. Aren’t the stakes higher here, and so worth the effort?
No? Then that is why I thing AGW is likely a bunch of agitprop phantasmagoria.

  9. Climatevictim, it’s too bad you wasted the energy/carbon to tell us we shouldn’t be celebrating the preservation of our way of life.
Now go plant a tree as penance after you turn in your computer at the recycling depot, you hypocritical Gaia rapist you.

  10. Climatevictim, what exactly is the problem?
Has someone rained on your parade?
You should be overjoyed; now your choice of username makes sense!

  11. July 22 2008, Jeffrey Simpson’s reply to my questioning why he believes in CO2 driven global warming. I basically stated Al Gore was a fraud.
JS:[ With respect, I have spent some years reading the “science,” and am in profound disagreement with you, as are all the governments of Canada (even Alberta and Saskatchewan accept the reality of climate change), the two major parties in the U.S., all of Europe, even China and India and Brazil, and the overwhelming number of scientific academics such as the Royal Society, the National Association of Scientists plus almost all of them in Canada. No one seriously believes that sun spots stuff. But there’s nothing I could say or point you to that would make you change your mind. Polls here show that about 10 per cent of Canadians deny the relaty of global warming, and as the song says “they will not be moved.” It’s frustrating, I guess, because the world has passed them completely by, so they bray at the moon.]

  12. If Simpson had read anything about science history, he would know that all of the official endorsements in the world mean squat. The AGW hypothesis has many, many scientific flaws. The proposed solutions by activists and politicians are worse.
I was reading in WUWT that AGWers are finally admitting that the land temp data has serious problems. Since most of the climate science was derived from this data, the secondary work like computer modeling will also be incorrect (even before the “adjustments” that always makes warming appear more dramatic).

  13. Climatevictim;
Obviously you’re a lefty therefore fairly likely a vegetarian too. So, take a little plant food (CO2)and call me in the morning.

  14. Monbiot sounds like a complete idiot.
We may be winning, but we do have stupid things like a carbon tax in BC, so more work to do still.
And then there’s California, a state that has sallowed the scam completely.
We can thank our lucky stars that the Federal Government in America has been unable to enact climate change legislation. This is very good news.

  15. All the money they envisioned. The monetary transfer of economies towards equalization. The baksheesh so close.
The people all ready to fleece.
Than the real truth came out. Poor babies. No money for you to play with.
Thanks to Kate, with countless others who refused to become suckers for a con artists worldwide scam.
Thank God for the internet. Without all the expertise , digging & investigation, these crooks would have been laughing at us as we get poorer.

  16. I would just like to take this opportunity to say “neener neener neeeeeeeeeeeener!” to all you Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver liberals who drive a DumbCar and sort your glass/paper/plastic/metal like good little automatons to save the planet.
    Suckers.
In celebration I’m going to drive my Buick for no good reason at all. Four hundred and twenty five cubic inches of high compression Detroit iron, pushing out 487 glorious foot pounds of sweet, tire-smoking torque. Oh -baby-.
Special George Monbiot commemorative burnout just for you, enviroweenies. I love the smell of burning rubber in the morning. Smells like… victory!

  17. George really needs to spend some time on Necker Island frolicking in the boiling seas with Sir Richard and Tony Blair and the gang.

  18. Didn’t Bonky Moon tell us that unless we had a climate agreement by December of last year we were all done for anyway. Well, we don’t and we aren’t, and even if we are, there’s nothing more to be done for it anyway. So, a test drive of the Audi R8 seems in order.

  19. “neener neener neeeeeeeeeeeener!” to all you Toronto/Montreal/Vancouver liberals who drive a DumbCar…”
I like to call them Clown Cars.
They remind me of the Shrine Circus, so funny, yep.

  20. Thank God for the internet. Without all the expertise , digging & investigation, these crooks would have been laughing at us as we get poorer.

Amen to that Revnant Dream. It’s a point I’ve made myself, here and elsewhere, on more than one occasion.
Just imagine, when all this AGW nonsense really started to gain steam, it was the late 80s early 90s. Nobody had heard of the internet, and network TV was king of the hill as far as information. I have a feeling the proponents of AGW/Global Govt. had expected this dynamic to remain static (and, why wouldn’t they).
But, with the explosion of the new media over the last 10 years, online, cable news, and talk radio — Well, we’ve seen Kate’s Not Watching For The Asteroid series, haven’t we? This alone, IMO, has put the brakes on the whole AGW/Global Govt. scam.
While frightening, it’s been fascinating to watch. Human nature has not changed, and the exact same lust for power that built the tyrannical regimes of the 20th century is behind the AGW push. But, for the first time in history, the “masses” have a mechanism to communicate and coalesce to push back against tyranny.

  21. Even better than the story was the Suncor ad beside it 🙂
What better way to declare kyoto dead than beside and ad for Suncor?? lol.
Eco-communism is dead. That doesn’t mean we can’t conserve, it just means the government won’t be stealing from us while we do it.
Being against UN/Gore fraud isn’t about hating the air we breath, just the idiots we have to share it with.

    Not even close to dead.
We’ve yet to deal with this Forced Recycling monster.

  23. Homer Simpson…..? Jeffrey Simpson ….?
the same last name…..is it simply coincidence ?
i have some serious doubt…for years now i’ve asked all and sundry has anyone ever seen the two in the same room together ?
    NOBODY HAS!
    Q.E.D. babies!

  24. I grow concord grapes along my fence on the neighbours side, she employs a gardening company to maintain her property so one day I see the lass taking a break from the law tractor and relaxing with a bunch of my grapes. I hollered “You might want to wash those before eating them,” she sneers back at me and replies “I happen to know you are an organic gardener so they are safe to eat” I replied, “Yes I am an organic gardener but the birds regularly shit on the grapes whilst eating them.” Jebus, the climate change crowd are honestly marginaly smarter than that chick.

  25. “astroturf monkeys”?
    Climatevictim,
I see you use the word “astroturf”, but I don’t think you know what it means.
If you mean that the anti Kyoto movement is fueled by disinformation and blind ideology, then that is plain ironic. If you think we are paid for this, well, you should get professional help if you really believe that.

  26. Well, it seems the Progressives and their Irritable Climate Syndrome has been cured with a healthy dose of Interweb-Regularous. The internet has become the proverbial yogurt Activia, to the Progressive’s verbal diarrhea.
I suppose that makes Kate our very own Jaimie Lee Curtis.

  27. Three cheers for Kate in keeping us up to date on this issue and for telling the troll like it is.
Colin says it well when he says thank God for the internet. It helped bring down the Soviet Union and it appears to be bringing down eco-communism.
While visiting Finland recently, a country of 5 million, we were told they are building a 5th nuclear power plant.

  28. // Climate change enlightenment was fun while it lasted. But now it’s dead //
    Monbiot regularly gets the fantods.

    Stay tuned

  29. From Monboit in the comments:
The science is not settled and will never be: that’s the nature of science. But the evidence is overwhelming. Global warming cannot “fail to appear”, for the simple reason that it’s here already.
And I thought the science was settled…go figure.

  30. “Climatevictim”? So now anyone who experiences the weather is a candidate for victimhood? Wow, we really HAVE progressed as a species, haven’t we?
As for George Moonbat, I had to write him once, after he publicly referred to Cormac McCarthy’s “The Road” as a novel about environmental disaster. I told him that only someone who had never experienced love or recognized the nered for civility versus barbarism would fail to recognize it as a novel about those things.

  31. I walked through some rain and got my leather jacket wet.
    I think it is ruined.
Does that make me a “climatevictim” or just a “weathervictim”?

  32. LC Bennett makes a good point: how far will the radical fringe of environmentalism take its struggle against society?
Liberals, in their bitter struggle against society, will never abandon “the process”, or any of their other sociopathic beliefs. They are truly bitter clingers.
It’s clear ” the process ” lives on in Monbiot’s fevered head.
Just a thought: Has Gore ever disavowed the Unabomber, who kept a copy of Gore’s books in his cabin?

  33. The Phantom; so that was YOU with all the squealing. I thought my neighbor had unloaded 90 pigs to go with her 3 urban chickens.

  34. “how far will the radical fringe of environmentalism take its struggle against society?”
    -small c conservative
Since all environmentalists are radicals, I’d say examples of how far the “fringe” would take it’s struggle are James Lee and ELF.
The more environmentalists feel their “message” is being ignored, the most they’re going to act out.
    Count on it.

  35. “Nope, you’re losing. Gun registry bill shot down today. HAHAHAHAHAHAH!”
So we’re going to continue flushing $3 to $4 million (conservative estimate) down the toilet each year. Hilarious!

  36. Tara 8:49 You should have let us win that one. It would have kept us quiet for awhile so that you could carry on with your agenda.

  37. It’s clear ” the process ” lives on in Monbiot’s fevered head.
Hmm He may be just Lucky..but what happens to that mind when he finds out the revolution is lost.ZZZZZZZZ

  38. “Gun registry bill shot down today. HAHAHAHAHAHAH!”
    -Tara
The vote was not “shot down” dear, it has merely been postponed, the can was kicked down the road a bit.
If the CPC want to, they can bring it up again, and again, and again, until the opposition look like total cowards or they actually deign to do their jobs and cast a vote on it.
Having run like cowards from this expensive waste of taxpayer funds, the opposition now not only looks like cowards but have surrendered the position of being able to throw the accusation of profligate deficit spending at the CPC.
In case it escaped your notice, spending cuts are going to become the issue of importance and the opposition have decided to lose the moral highground such as you preceive it today on this issue during economic times in which Canadians are going to want the government to keep them from losing their homes, jobs, and other things of greater funding importance than the Long Gun Registry.
In short: He who laughs last laughs best, and dearie, time is not on your side.
