Actually the V1 was a pilotless bomb—a cruise missle. No rocket involved a pulse-jet—a crude jet.
It’s success or lack there-of was largely predicated by it’s limited range. It’s speed necessitated that the fighters had to maintain standing patrols….only by diving at it could they engage.
Flying straight and level, it could have repressented a perfect AAA target….however it travelled through a portion of the sky making it too high for light guns and too low for the heavies. Only later, defending Antwerp, could the heavies compete. American developed,radar aimed,75MM guns firing the first proximity fused shells.
The V1’s limited range meant that as the launching sites were over-run by the Allied advance it ceased to be effective.
The Nazi’s cranked these devises out in such numbers that always many got through.
The most effective counter was double agents reporting the impact sites short of London, causing the V1’s guidence system to be adjusted such that many overflew the target.
As a terror weapon the V1 was superb, it could be seen and heard….and packed a wallop.
The V2 was a completely different critter.
More expensive to build….however.
Launching sites that were easily concealed.
Once fired unstoppable.
The V1’s weakness was it’s lack of range and the neccessity of vulnerable easily identified launching sites.
The Luftwaffe’s development of air-launch from bommbers such as the HE111 solved the range/launching site problem but lacked even the limited accuracy of the ground-launchings. Fighter command had some success with Mosquito Night-fighters patrolling, vectored by radar picket ships in the North Sea, beyond the coverage of the British Chain Home Radar belts.
The current problem is that even a crude, bulky nuke can be delivered by container or installed in an airliner……miniturizing a nuclear warhead small enough to fit in a missile will be a long time coming for the Iranians. Meanwhile the IDF has submarine launched, nuclear armed cruise missles deployed in the Persian Gulf.
Hamas and Hezbollah are not the sharpest knives in the drawer…..an effective nuclear attack on Isreal would whack them as well….not to mention that targeting Jerusalem would damage/destroy the second most Holy site in Islam.

There’s no use discussing it really. Israel’s going to end up either bombing the a-hole’s reactors or getting nuked, no happy medium here.
