Herr Gutenberg, You Can Have It Back Now

…most Canadians were stunned to discover that one of their own was the star of a $2 million television campaign warning Americans about the perils of this country’s publicly funded medical system. Shona Holmes, the poster girl for that attack, turned out to be fronting a lawsuit against Ontario’s health ministry spearheaded by a Calgary-based Christian advocacy group named the Canadian Constitution Foundation.

I know I was.

Update.
When Ann Coulter wanted to perfect Jews, people said it was a bad thing.

  1. “In a perfect world we wouldn’t need the Bible.”
Strong right wing advocacy in Canada?
    It’s about time.

  2. They had more crap on the book in the Saturday rag, too.
BTW, irony alert with the rag’s page including a “Christian dating” advert. Funny, I didn’t see a line about “Looking for someone to take over the world with before the End Times?” in the ad. I guess you have to click through to get to that part.

  3. BTW, ALERT! Poll going horribly wrong at the Rag over federal funding for Gay Pride parade being cut. Currently 65% to 32% for “No” out of 12,892 votes.

  4. What kind of newspaper has an author review/preview/flog her own book? Is the author the only book reviewer in all the land?

  5. Not content in having 60% of Canadians in the green, secular and non secular left (Anglicans, United, etc) tent, they want it all and it’s “those American Jesus-Freaks” that are the problem. Luckily for the remaining 40%, the majority described above are sufficiently irrational, thuggish and arrogant, that they remain divided and politically cannibalistic.

  6. Vast conservative Christian conspiracy. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
From my experience most Evangelical Churches couldn’t organize a one man race to the outhouse. We have an old joke that asks the question: What do you have when you put two Baptists in a pew? Answer: A fight. In the few times I’ve been in a United or Anglican church I have heard left wing politics being discussed but in evangelical churches a pastor is likely to be reprimanded for bringing up politics in his sermon.

  7. I feel dumber for having read that.
andycanuck I also noticed the Gay pride funding poll, It was running 2-1 against funding when I voted. More proof of a VCCC (Vast Canadian Christian Conspiracy) I guess.
BTW, what’s with the potty mouth on Cosh, Christians won’t like that either.

  8. You know the absolute hysterical thing about this, I bet Marci has captured a grant from one of those artsy councils to produce this blather.
I can just picture her, with a chicken stapled to her face, wearing a paisley leather mini-skirt collecting some inconsequential prize like the Order of Canada for arts.

  9. I think I know why that “journalist” called Canadian Constitution Foundation a “christian advocacy”
On CCF website there is recent case which says:
U of C professor Daren Lund filed a complaint with the Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission after he was offended by a letter to the editor Rev. Boissoin wrote to the Red Deer Advocate, regarding homosexuality and the public school curriculum, and other public policy issues. The Alberta Human Rights Commission ordered Boissoin to pay $5,000 to Lund, and to write and publish a formal apology. Boissoin was also ordered to refrain forever from saying anything “disparaging” about homosexuals. The Canadian Constitution Foundation intervened in Boissoin v. Lund to argue in defence of freedom of expression.
    So Marci McDonald thinks:
They defend a Reverend for writing something about homosexuals which offended certain person naturally they must be a Christian advocacy group.

If the media knew how many Christians there are in the government, they’d go crazy.
as majority of Canadians are Christians (protestants, orthodox, catholics, etc) it is quite logical that there would be a lot of Christians in the government, isn’t it?

  10. Oh Ezra, Kate,… can’t you see its a “Judeo-Christian” conspiracy!!
Marci is just flogging copy for her book “The Armageddon Factor”.
Next she will assert the Pope is an atheist…
The gal has a nutcracker theory, if she would only stop trying to circum-navigate jewish men’s trousers she would discover that there is no conspiracy to circumcise the globe either.
Newsflash Marci, if G*d wants to achieve Armageddon He probably doesn’t need any assistance!
This is just another ‘run for your lives the world is ending’ script, which might play better in Hollywood.
Thanks for the schtick Marci, next….
If I need comic relief we’ll put on Mel Brooks ‘History of the World Part 1’.
    Cheers

  11. SYF, do you mean MacDonald’s factual error?
The author evokes apocalyptic imagery to denounce the supposedly apocalypse-obsessed takeover-minded Christians. So which of those awful people is Pinky, and which is The Brain?
Of course, she could not resist the temptation to play the “America card”.

  12. A well Fifed story . . . very well Fifed . . . since most of it is the core stuff of modern journalism . . . made up of sh*t.

  13. One gets the feeling that the falling fortunes of Obama and his faithful O-bot army have filled the Red Star offices with the same kind of frenzy one sees on NPR and MSNBC these days. Their One True Prophet is in danger, and they’ve got -nothing-, so they’ve started to make stuff up. Wholesale.
Hey Red Star! Obama’s an AMERICAN. You hate those b@st@rds, remember? Eye on the ball, people!
Of all the things I don’t buy, I enjoy not-buying the Toronto Star the most.

  14. I am reminded of the old joke…..
Why do Baptists refrain from having sex standing up?
    It could lead to dancing.

  15. Read between the lines people. It is all a masquerade. “Christians” is actually a euphemism for Muslims. Aaahh, now it makes sense.

  16. These are the idiots who think the Da Vinci Code is real. Idiocy is equal opportunity.
Follow the link for a Toronto Star poll gone horribly wrong (RE: “pride” day funding).

  17. The same people who think that cigarette 2nd hand smoke kills people! First they came for the smokers…

  18. We are being branded and labelled.
The only way a left-winger can possibly win a debate with a Conservative is under the following 3 conditions:
    1. The Conservative can not be present nor can they have any prior knowledge of the debate. (Conservatives are resource people who will find ways of making their opinions known. NEVER trust them!!!)
    2. The left-winger must have free reign to state their interpretation of the Conservatives views on any and all issues.
    3. No fact checking is allowed. Period. Any attempt by anyone to verify any of the statements put forth by the left-winger will be meet with a lawsuit by a Human Rights Tribunal.
Amazingly the MSM goes for it. The Star should be embarrassed…..I know I`m dreaming.

  19. “In this country, where the CRTC has kept the reins on religious broadcasting…” Such casual comfort with a certain type of tyranny!

  20. Shocking! How dare like minded people get together to push an agenda not held by the majority of Canadians! And even more shocking, how dare they do it without government funding? Obviously we aren’t taxing those hard working,self-reliant nutters enough. We need some new social program to bleed these thumpers dry and prevent them from ever questioning the orthodoxy again. Maybe we could build every First Nations person a house. Again. Or maybe we should force all children into universal early education and daycare. That one seems best, really, because it not only drains the Jesus freaks it also lets us indoctrinate their children in the correct values. McGuinty can still teach them the proper way to masturbate!

  21. Isn’t this McDonald book just the “HIDDEN AGENDA” out again in book form???

  22. She worked for Macleans? That’s odd, don’t recognize the name. Maybe if Mark Steyn had mentioned her…………… Now that the subscription has run out again won’t be enjoying his two pages and then tossing the rest as usual.

  23. One would have to write another article few times longer to point out the silliness.
    Only a few points:
“….where the CRTC has kept the reins on religious broadcasting….”
Is this not something national socialists would do?
“….prompting one official from the National House of Prayer to boast in an unguarded moment…
Why would anybody think that the moment was unguarded, how so?
“If the media knew how many Christians there are in the government, they’d go crazy.”
Is it not self evident that the guy was accurate?
There is way too much nonsense, the author obviously lives in another world, a dream world, lotus land, where anything ordinary is incomprehensible and where all the behaviors that were looked at with disapproval only a few years ago have become a rock solid norm as though it has always been that way.
The author is clearly masturbating her mind and could have come to full orgasm by the time she finished.

  24. Sounds ominous to me, Christians taking over Canada. What would our ancestors think?
    Oh yeah, right.

  25. Well, idealogues need an ‘other’ to demonise in order to confirm the identity and moral superiority of their tribe. Jews and/or Evangelicals suffice depending on their usefulness in a given situation. It appears that this kind of myth-making is what McDonald hopes to cash in on. Or maybe she is just a garden variety bigot. Anyway, it is a bit of tradition for the Canadian left.

  26. The Canadian Constitution Foundation is not a Christian advocacy group, it’s more of a justice advocacy group. I’m fairly sure that Karen Selick, for one, is an atheist.
I haven’t heard its spokespersons take note, however, of the fact that the Charter of Rights is full of mistakes that desperately need to be corrected before true justice can reign in this country.

  27. Laugh at leftards day:In their party organ no less!!Bwahahaha! Delicious 🙂

  28. The comments are now closed on the gay pride parade,I imagine there wasn’t enough Harper bashing for the Star’s liking.
