In a failed attempt to sway the the IOC’s selection committee into awarding Chicago the 2016 Summer Olympics, which went instead to Rio de Janeiro (see Paul’s vid below), the ever-grinning Barack Obama landed in Copenhagen yesterday to deliver a four-“I” plea:
“I’ve come here today to urge you to choose Chicago for the same reasons I chose Chicago nearly twenty-five years ago – the reasons I fell in love with the city I still call home.”
Michelle Obama plied the “wife of I” gambit:
“I was born and raised on Chicago’s South Side, not far from where the Games would open and close,” she said.
(….)
Michelle Obama talked about her late dad who suffered from multiple sclerosis.
Alas, someone in Brazil’s delegation once lived in Rio, and had a great-uncle with angina.

Nope, sorry, h.ryan, et al: you specifically DO want the US to fail as long as Obama is president – just like your oxycontin-addicted, viagra-addicted obese chief Limbaugh wants the US to fail, just like Glenn “I hate the 9-11 families” want the US to fail.
Why? Imagine how horrible it would be if Obama presided over the recovery of the US! What a perceived victory itwould be if he DID clean up the mess George Bush Jr. left the country in? Horrors!
It’s just the same as why you guys oppose health care reform – and why your forebears opposed Social Security in the 30s. Let people suffer and die, let the country go down the drain – all out of spite.
BTW I never mentioned race in my post. Howcum you guys do in responding to it? Hard for you to stay awa from the ol’ race thing, hmmmm?
“As Steyn just posted at The Corner, they even gave HITLER the Olympics… :-)”
Nice one.
I’m not sure why its particularly newsworthy that Obama came to pitch the olympics…Spains King and Queen were there as was the Prime Ministers family. Brazil’s president Luiz Silva was there, as was Japan’s newly minted Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, even though he only got into power like what, 3 weeks ago?
Anything to tranish Obama it seems. I’m no fan of Obama, but it would be nice for once if we had some serious, clear, decisive critique’s of his administration. Perhaps an analysis of stimulus dollars, exploring corruption connections with some of the major players on Wall Street with regards to the stimulus…
Instead all I see here is stuff fit for the tabloids or Glenn Beck.
bleet – I was the class bicycle in high school, and my views are therefore extremely cogent and perspicacious.
Your point is idiotic, and, more importantly, your fat guy is way fatter than our fat guy.
So shut up.
bar-jebus
“but it would be nice for once if we had some serious, clear, decisive critiques of his administration.”,nice try,you aren’t new here so save the nonpartisan baloney.Kate has covered Obama almost as much as the msm.If your complaint is that Kate doesn’t toungue bathe him like the msm, then you have a point.
lol, Black Mamba!
tongue
Mamba, stop trying to use logic on bleet. It’s like trying to cut case hardened steel with a Kleenex.
Today, quite apart from any discomfort poor Barry and Michelle may be feeling from being DISSED on the international stage…
…every sane taxpayer in the greater Chicago area is heaving a great sigh of relief.
Isn’t Montreal still paying for their Olympics?
the Olypics shud be held in Penticton…the Ironman is…
The Chicago Olympic Bid was not about Obama until he injected himself into the bid process. There is always a potential political price when the top guy becomes the focus.
But his handlers are so arrogant that they would allow their man to run last? Delusional or dimwitted?
My initial reaction was that Obama better land the Olympics or it will look bad on him. Just one more thing TOTUS has been unsuccessful at! Think about it, can someone name any victories for the Obama camp since his election? I suppose we can say Cap’n Trade, but that hasn’t cleared the Senate so even that egg hasn’t hatched.
I agree with Bar to the extent that it’s no big deal; except for perception. Whether it’s official talks with Dinnerjacket or his failure on the Olympic file, it’s becoming apparent(predictably so) that Obama not only diminishes the prestige of the office; but it appears he doesn’t even care about it. It all seems very typical of a leftard to spend, spend, spend without any intention of refilling coffers, whether it’s political or monetary capital.
I think it’s fair to say that Barak Obama has spent the office of the President and America into a Political Capital Deficit.
Just another failure for Obama. By my count he is batting still batting a thousand in the failure game.
I would be glad to admit I am wrong if someone can tell of anything he done that is a success in the 9 months he has been Potus.

“The Limits of Egomania
Obama received a nasty rebuff and a stern reminder that the rest of the world doesn’t necessarily care what he thinks. Chicago is out of the Olympics bidding process–in the first round.
Why did Obama invest so much personal capital and time for this?
Well, he simply can’t help himself. It’s the same force of ego that drives him on to those TV talk shows again and again and that imagines that a grand speech with no content and no appeal outside his base will be a game changer on health-care reform.

Bleet(er),
So, in like one week, Urkel had to take spine lessons from the French, left his hand picked General and an Army to swing in the breeze while he studies up, and got pwned by the IOC( in spite of his wife’s poverty pimping. Why that would be attractive, I don’t know ).
But in fairness, he did issue a very stern no texting while driving order. Very impressive.
ET said:
“Obama, who, unlike Bush, has no military background, or military knowledge…”
Didn’t Shaw say there’s nothing funnier than unintentional comedy?
Bush Jr. got his dad to put him in the National Guard then didn’t even show up for that…
Bwahahaha!
bleet
Acorn got Obama the presidency then he didn’t bother to show up.
Fixed it for you,you’re welcome.
I almost fell on the floor when I heard Obama say he loves to go around the world boosting the United States to the world. When did he ever promote the United States – he is always running it down.
bleet – stop bleeting; Bush was almost six years in the National Guard and flew F-102s. OK?
And don’t move into fantasy land with your ‘health care reform’. Telling us that 46 million are uninsured with the clear implication that it’s out of poverty rather than choice, or being illegal; ignoring tort reform; ignoring the need to move policies across state boundaries..and instead trying to set up a govt run system that will drive private insurance out of business, fine people if they don’t have insurance, tax companies for not subscribing to the public ‘option’…that’s not reform. That’s socialist totalitarianism.
And don’t try the ‘you want America to fail’ theme. As others have pointed out, we want America to survive Obama; it’s Obama who wants America to fail. It’s Obama with his endless denigration of America that is the issue. Do you support his constant demeaning of America and Americans? Hmmm?
bar-jebus – the problem isn’t that Obama went to support a Chicago Olympics, although given the nature of the problems he is NOT giving any decent attention to (the economy, Afghanistan, Iran, health)…one wonders why he went. The problem is HOW he intended the IOC to base their decision..And Obama’s tactic was to talk, about Himself. To declare that Pre-Obama, America wasn’t much good, but Post-Obama, it was no ‘open and diverse’…and how He, Was a Prime Example of this New America.
Drudge was right in his headline: The Ego Has Landed.
Maybe if Obama weren’t so egotistical, maybe if he hadn’t presented the Chicago Option as If you Love Obama, THEN, you’ll Choose Chicago…maybe..the out come would not have been so massively against Chicago. I suspect the vote against..was really a vote against the monstrous egotism of Obama.
Even my sainted mother, who just this morning was defending socialists and voted for Obama cheered when the news came.
OMG ET, flying F102s is sissy work for morons! I can’t believe that you didn’t know that the voices in my head, who are always right, said that not only did Bush not go to Harvard, but that he wasn’t even a cheerleader! He has one ball, just like Hitler! It’s his fault that the world hates America! When Randy Newman wrote “Lets drop the big one”, it was because he was embarrassed about how much the world loved us before Bush! It’s all true, wait a minute, let me channel Olberman and he can verify it for me! Jeez guys! You all are so stupid I can’t believe that I am wasting my superior intelligence even trying to discuss this with you!
The Obamalympics were not to be.
Yes, ET, the illustrious military career of George W. Bush is legendary.
But if military experience is the end-all and be-all of governing, why did Bush disregard Colin Powell’s advice about invading Iraq? Why did he discard the Powell Doctrine?
Oh, I forgot: Powell only had 35 years experience in the military compared to Bush’s AWOL experience.
Michelle, the “wookie”
Horny Toad
I heard that Bush also volunteered for Vietnam but was turned down because he didn’t have experience on the right kind of jets.
He was right to invade Iraq.
Obama, Michelle and Oprah apart – I have nothing against Chicago and the people who work and live there, but it is nice to see a city from South America get it. Let’s wish them luck! We’ll have visitors from both Chicago and Rio coming to see the games in Vancouver/Whistler. Wouldn’t it be great to travel to Rio to see theirs?
If you like oppressive heat, humidity, rancid crotch-smells, crime, poverty, and endless lineups.
My condolonces to all my little starred and sripey neighbours; you are embarking on what will be a painful journey.
As Canada suffered under Trudeau – patron saint of bureaucrats and socialists – so shall you suffer under ‘bama.
We’ll see, Jamie. Canada certainly didn’t have the equivalent of the Tea Party protests during the Trudeau year. These people are stalwarts who are not taking it lying down.
Obamaism might just be unraveling. The mid-term elections next year will tell the tale.
Larry Bennett: “Wouldn’t it be great to travel to Rio to see theirs?”
I can’t speak/understand Brazilian.
CO2: I can’t speak/understand Brazilian.
LOL! Neither do the Brazilians!
Rancid crotch smells? You’ve been there?
Larry Bennett: “Rancid crotch smells? You’ve been there?”
Vancouver or Rio?
EBD, average high temperature in Rio in August while the games are on, is about 75 F. Humidity at 66 is a bit high.
sure it’s summer here in August, but it isn’t summer in the south.
don’t understand Brasilian? wot? Not speaking “Brasilian” doesn’t stop these folks, http://oglobo.globo.com/rio/fotogaleria/2009/10015/
NettieOnTheNet,
Interesting play on names ∞² vs CO2.
I don’t like it.
Gee, let’s see… Lake Shore Drive or Ipanema… Hmmm…
This is the most amusing and enjoyable set of comments I have read on SDA in a while.
