Another celebrity has thrown his Hollywood clout behind animal-rights activists who want the Edmonton Valley Zoo to move Lucy, a 33-year-old ailing Asian elephant, to a sanctuary.
Canadian-born actor William Shatner, best known for his portrayal of Captain Kirk on Star Trek , sent a letter to Mayor Stephen Mandel requesting that the beloved pachyderm be retired to “better circumstances.”
Via Sean, who suggests – “I’m thinking that we should let the elephant go if Shatner agrees to take her place. It’s not like anyone will notice much of a switch, except for the fact that the new elephant eats nothing but All Bran cereal and takes bigger dumps.”

In case he fails to make the connection, cuz Tom’s a busy guy what with all that yard work and all, the simple answer is that they would make one of those hard decisions and have that sucker chopped up and frying in a big wok in a heartbeat. You want that spicy?
I don’t want to see the animal hurt, either, and Mr. Shatner is welcome to his opinion. However, only an expert, not the blowhards of PETA, can determine what is best for this particular elephant. I would imagine that if Lucy the elephant was sent to a refuge, she might die of the shock or might die in pain and lonely as if she been in the wilderness. Also, she is more protected in a zoo than in the wilderness where less animal-friendly hunters would hurt her.
Just my thoughts.
And I liked the “Enterprise” series moreso the older one. It wasn’t perfect but the special effects were better. However, nothing can compete with “The Trouble With Tribbles”.
Ive liked Shatner more since he became a parody of himself.
He has lost some weight , there was a time he could have worn a grey suit and stood in for the elephant.

There was a radio show on the other week and the staff go in on their days off to hang out with Lucy
and keep her company.It is a shame that her health is not great, but it sure sounded like she was not being neglected!

Of down town New York he passed by me and we only say hi to each other he came from one of big bank in down town New York. He looks like Jewish but we did not talk it was funny for me remember me captain kirk when I saw him
This is impossible some one Jewish background come near me just by look and behavior I quickly know they are Jewish between Muslim also I quickly know that Muslim where they come from because we have so many different background of Muslim especially my family worked with Jewish in past I understand their culture better than Christian

All good chuckles aside, if you have ever been to the Valley Zoo … it sucks, is small and is no place for an elephant.
So be nice to Bill – at least this wife hasn’t met an accidental end yet.
There is so much hatred here, so many words spoken in anger, towards people who have done you, nor anyone else any wrong. In fact, the man in question is seeking to extend human compassion towards an animal, by allowing it to live the end of its life in relative comfort in a sanctuary. It leaves me angry, and feeling ill to see so much bitterness in your words and thoughts… not even an expression of love given by a human being towards one of god’s creatures, is safe from your hate-fueled words.
I feel sorry that your personal world is so fearful, dark, and angry that you feel a need to attack Shatner both personally and professionally, when he is merely another human being, supporting an expression of compassion toward a creature that has given its life for our entertainment and education.
If I understand the precedent, no doubt someone will try and attack me or my stance here as well, but before you tear down the good work of others like Mr. Shatner, please ask yourself what good you’re doing. All I see here is a lot of baboons, laughing and gibbering in self-righteous anger, attacking a person seeking to support something kind.
To those of you, I am genuinely sorry, and hope that you will eventually find some measure of human compassion.
