    I wouldn’t get too focused on the racial aspects though, white cultures have their ways of going down the tubes as well (hint, Sieg Heil, or, please follow the Comrade to the interrogation room) … I think the term we are actually looking for is original sin.

We are the safety net and we have the responsibility to help and heal our children’s wounds. To ignore that most basic responsibility throws a dirty shoe in the face of heart humanity and lets the selfish animal win.
    I deeply hope that once buddy gets over the shame of not protecting his child, he finds the key to unlocking his own heart and starts to give the love the girl needs and deserves.

  26. It should be self-evident that all cultures are not equal, but I do not see this horrible crime as being due to culture nor race. The damage, physical and psychological, to the girl may never be healed. But hopefully this will not result in the creation of another government social program, which will certainly make things worse.

  28. This horrible crime is due to the culture. These people came from Liberia where there is a problem with rape. The article is saying that it is so commonplace that their president had to start nation-wide campaign against rape.
    Furthermore Mandingo, which is the ethnicity of all these children – boys and the girl – are Muslims. So the probability that their parents would think the rape is woman fault and will excuse boys for what they have done is higher that among other Liberian ethnicities. Although that is not saying much.

  35. No. Not all cultures are created equal. That being said, there are monstrous people in all cultures. No culture is immune from crazy, freak-job, nutcase, psycopaths. They exist in all cultures – the difference is in how we treat the victims and how we deal with the perpetrators of such horrific acts.
    Our culture is not superior to theirs’ because we have no rapists but rather because, in our culture, we acknowledge that it is not a woman/girls’ fault and we empathize with the victim of these types of terrible acts. We scorn and punish the perpetrator for their violation of another human being (at least most of us do – some just make up excuses for the scumbag).

  36. Penny, good comments. If I might add that how we value our children is a prime determinant on how strong a society is. Societies that value children also value their future. Those that selfishly kick their kids to the curb for any ol’ reason are choosing a death spiral with no future.
