Y2Kyoto: The Problem With The Built-In Solution

Report: Climate change causes 315,000 deaths a year
Flashback!

In a speech at Harvard last November, Harvard physicist John Holden, President-elect Obama’s choice to be his science adviser as director of the White House Office of Science and Technology, presented a “top 10” list of warming solutions.
Topping the list was “limiting population”.

1. So when an old, almost dead person dies during a heat wave, thats a global warming death. And when an African person starves because they can’t get food because their government is taking it all, that is a global warming death. Okie dokie… Do they offset any of that with the improved northern crop yeilds so more food due to global warming?
Now we need the report on how rogue governments are responsible for millions of deaths a year.

2. Yes. Limiting population to “friends” of the Obama Nation. Starting with car dealers and working its way along to grown men, then women, children and old people.
Very popular strategy among both fascists and communists, historically.

3. I assume the complaint is that Global Warming/Climate Change ISN’T killing off enough people.

4. I assume the writer of this bull crap forgot to “change” his diapers before writing it. Wow, methane trivia for sure.

5. I continue to be utterly amazed that there is a single thinking human left on this planet that actually still believes in the whole Global Warming as caused by man theory. The blatant lack of intelligence displayed by these “believers” does not instill much hope for the future. (Unless of course these are the people that are getting “killed” by AGW)
The more I see going on in this world the more I think the movie “Idiocracy” is a prophetic vision rather than a cheap comedy film.

6. I think there is a lot more to fear in Africa than global warming. Why not too long ago one tribe, the Hutu killed three times that many Tutsi in on e year with machetes. Maybe the UN should be limiting the production of machetes.
How the hell do they know what’s really responsible to those 315000 deaths each year? Really, how do they know?
When you live right neat the equator and you have already cut down all your jungle to burn the wood to cook your grubs and grasshoppers, it’s more a loss of habitat than a global warming problem.
Besides, anyone who pays attention knows that it’s been cooling for the past ten years.
A lot of people die each year because of extreme cold too.
Kate has the best thought on this with the ‘built in solution’ comment.

7. Johnboy….”thinking” people do not buy into this crap.Socialists,facsists,commies.They buy into it.They like being led by the nose. And if they can insert their noses up the butts of the leftards spewing this crap, they like it even better! As old white guy said, time to start calling these pukes out for the crap they are!
He is right. There does come a time, when you fight fire with fire,or in the case of AGW,you fight bulls^&t with truth.

8. Is there a test to see how forgetful you are as part of the admission process to “professional” journalism schools? (Exception: you must forget to whom you cow-tow?)

9. Interesting, but anyone who has studied the issue will admit that there are more deaths due to excessive cold than heat. If a warming climate causes 315,000 deaths it will also reduce more than that many deaths from cold.

10. Man. I should have went into the sciences.
I can pull a number out of my arse, work 4 hour days and take the summer off just as well as some leftard. I can even make total horses**t sound more convincing than these dimwits.
What was I thinking?

11. Jason, these scientists also get to jet around the world for conferences held in the most popular travel destinations, all payed for with grant money.

12. rian
“Jason, these scientists also get to jet around the world for conferences held in the most popular travel destinations, all payed for with grant money.”
I could do that… lol.

13. The study, commissioned by the Geneva-based Global Humanitarian Forum (GHF), estimates that climate change seriously affects 325 million people every year, a number that will more than double in 20 years to 10 percent of the world’s population (now about 6.7 billion).
Wow! 10% is “1 in 10”.
One in ten… now where have I heard that before…?
Ah, yes, when they first started trying to get us to accept that homosexuality was normal they pulled that “1 in 10” number straight out of their squeak hole.
It worked by dint of the fact that you mostly couldn’t really tell who was queer and who wasn’t.
I don’t think it will work with Global Warming though.
It’s easy to see that it isn’t getting warmer so it doesn’t matter what number they try to stampede the lemmings with.

14. >The first hit and worst affected are the world’s poorest groups, and yet they have done least to cause the problem.”
The report says developing countries bear more than nine-tenths of the human and economic burden of climate change, while the 50 poorest countries contribute less than 1 percent of the carbon emissions that are heating up the planet.
Total lie.
The world’s “poor” are the ones who have cooking fires made from wood or dung burning 24/7 365 days of the year. These poor people are, in fact, creating the most real air pollution on this planet and the “cap and trade” schemes of the “developed” world are going to put clean energy permanently out of the reach of these “poor” folks the eco-Nutters claim to care about.

15. “….”thinking” people do not buy into this crap.Socialists,facsists,commies.They buy into it…”
Justthinkin
In a sense you are on to something here. I believe that “thinking” will arise more in people who “compete”, meaning people who make a living in the private sector. Either self employed or working for some private firm or company who constantly compete for survival. Anything that can have an impact socially via higher taxes for example could have serious detrimental effects on the lives of the private entrepreneur or it’s workers.
On the other hand, a teacher, government bureaucrat, welfare recepient does’nt need to worry as much. The jobs (Or cheque) are garanteed for life with indexted pensions afterwards.
Socialism, Communism puts people into slumber. No matter what changes around them, it seldom changes their own lives.
It might explain why teachers are such promoters of the GW sham for example.
The number one problem of the free world right now is TOO MUCH GOVERNMENT.

16. There are Wakos in every line of “work”. Normally they are just a few among many sane people.
A problem arises when the MSM gives the nut-cases a soap box.
Al Gore Inc. could have been debunked years ago by a thorough debate. But he would not debate, still will not debate – refuses questions after his talks, even. He knows he would loose.
The problem really isn’t Gore and wacko science – it is the Media !! They refuse to call BS !
Has this happened before ?
Alien Invader Crop Circles
Y2K Calamity
Oil For Food scam
1970s Ice Age Scare

Bermuda Triangle Hoax
And,
Population Explosion Worry
Population growth rates are falling dramatically and total population numbers are set to fall in another couple of decades or so. Many, many countries are already below replacement birth rate levels.
Forget Peak Oil – try Peak Pop.
Media will not, though, because it would cut the legs from under the Warmongers (media, itself, the biggest Fearmonger). ‘Man is bad’ has been the Greens’ rallying cry for decades.

17. “Global Humanitarian Forum (GHF), estimates that climate change seriously affects 325 million people every year” — Curious . . . how do they come up with this figure when we have not yet experienced much in the way of “global warming.” (Is it not only 1 degree over the past century — with the more scary stuff planned for 2050 or some such.) Moreover, even the minimal temperature increases noted are at the poles — not the equator or other warm places; and they have been experienced as a reduction in nighttime temperature drops — not daytime highs. (That’s all with respect to the one degree) In other words NO GLOBAL WARMING YET, so how can anybody be affected? More explanation needed, I think.

18. Oz
The poor are also the ones having 12 kids while the developed world has lower than replacement birthrates.
We consume more but they over breed. We have environmental standards and they don’t.
We have reduced sulphur emissions by what? 95%? 98%? Almost every other real pollutant has also been drastically reduced.
The third world still uses leaded gas, their smokestacks have no scrubbers, they burn charcoal like you said but what you didn’t say is that they get it from illegal logging of rainforest trees. They poach endangered species for bush meat and their farms are pushing what’s left of the wilderness off the map.

19. If they would say how they arrive at that figure (315,000) this may be more credible. ‘Hunger, sickness and weather disasters’ have occurred since the dawn of times, and there is no strong evidence they are worse now. With more people on the planet, you’ll see more people dying from these. That’s statistics.
Even if the climate change angle were true, some 57 million people die every year.
If, for example, the loss of a glacier caused all people in a mountain village to die from thirst and hunger, you could blame that on climate change. But even that is not happening now.

20. What irks me the most about the lack of journalism represented by these articles is in every one of them they state that carbon emissions are the de facto cause of global warming. There’s never even a remote mention of the contentious nature of that salient point in the entire scam.
I thank god for AGW scam at times though, without it I’d still be a 20-something idealist who assumes neo-cons are evil. AGW, and my intuitive mistrust of the MSM after having read a lot of counter arguments to AGW made me a conservative. There’s no looking back now 🙂
Tell me this: in Alberta, a conservative majority in perpetuity, why are we pandering to the ecofreaks with 2 billion earmarked for carbon capture R&D (while running a deficit)? Someone, – please!!! – cut through the insanity. I do my part at the pub every friday after work getting the debate going and shutting everyone down with solid arguments. Alas, it’s like talking to myself even then. I’ve won over 2 out of 10 so far.

21. HahahaHA. “Funding from rich countries…” Man up, NGO sycophant. The days of suckling at the teat of prosperous western countries has officially come to an end.

22. Well gee… look who’s the president of the company that put out this load of bollocks. Kofi Annan, former UN secretary-general. Nice to see he’s landed on his feet. /sarc

23. Goreacle reports: Sol has no pimples, er “dark blobs” on its face.
…-
“Quiet Sun May Trigger Global Cooling
Fox News
Could reduced sunspots be tied to temperatures on Earth?
That’s what has astrophysicists and meteorologists wondering as the sun enters a prolonged “quiet period,” a deviation from the usual 11-year sunspot cycle in which the dark blobs on our star’s surface ebb and flow, reports National Geographic News.
And there may be a link to global warming — or, in this case, cooling. Current theories link an earlier solar quiet time to the “Little Ice Age,” a cold snap that lasted from about 1300 to 1800 in Europe and North America.

24. The aspect of the global warming mythogenisis/cult that I find the most extremely alarming (all of it is rather stupid and dangerous imho, bytheby) is the connection to the theories of Peter Singer and to an extent Margaret Sanger….as aptly illustrated by Mr. Holden’s premise concerning population (and I suppose could be furhtered into an arguement on Mr. Obama’s stance on BAIPA and what he currently seems to be working on vis a vis our healthcare).
But the forces of the global warmists are many, and they have a love affair with most every other type of life killing fad walking the planet right now (at least human — they seem to feel some compassion for the snails) — saly, they are also in positions fo power, wealth, and influence [below is a link to a local paper, and the global warmists are professors from the local college; the fellow who wrote the letter is a tenured prof — read it and shake your head, or comment and give them some hell as that would be hilarious — of course the comments of dissent are merely “stupid hillbillies”].

25. ‘limiting population’
Isn’t that what the Liberals do at their national conventions with those red thingys?

26.
It will give ammunition to those opposed to action and divert attention away from the people who actually need help in the face of disasters, yet through this report have been reduced to a bloodless statistic for use in the promotional battle over climate policies. The report is worse than fiction, it is a lie. These are strong words I know.
Roger Pielke Jr
Why should this be a surprise… does Roger need a hand when he crosses a street… Mixing Science, political policy, & gangsters makes for strange bed fellows…
Does this mean Nancy Pelosi must apologize for her use of this Report… it’s the right thing. Its for the poor people… people are dying… (she most likely wrote the report)
Yes! Nancy you are the stank.. No decency in your World

27. Oz (1:09 PM): I think the link is correct – it’s also posted by Earl the Pearl above. I did goof up however, it was Pielke Jr..

28. It’s very heartening that at least the people in this forum are aware of what’s happening, though some even here are making light of this, and most people elsewhere either don’t know and/or don’t seem to care about where this is leading.
Me, I’m scared shitless about what our children will grow up to face, not to mention our own generation’s prospects as we age and become too expensive to deserve health care. People are aborted and euthanized even today for the flimsiest of reasons with next to no objection.
All opposition to these no-longer tentative anti-humanity policies is framed as right-wing religious fervor. Sadly, the sheeple are easily fooled by this basic logical fallacy.
I too blame the media (and the education systems) for enabling it all, as they control the all-important messages (or lack thereof) the masses are given. It falls on us, while we can, to “kick at the darkness till it bleeds daylight”.
I’m open to ideas on how. Thanks Kate and regular contributors, nobody else but bloggers and a small fraction of the media seem to even have the knowledge or courage to speak out.

29. This is litterally a question of Habeus Corpus!
Where are the bodies of those who died of global warming? They must be somewhere, in a morgue, perhaps, after having be diagnosed of the cause of their deaths.
Or perhaps they are lying in the entrails of a statistical computer model output trash can.

30. Slap Shot, Roger Pielke Senior is always treading a very fine line between social and academic acceptance and scientific rigour.
To maintain his authority, of which he has much, he is obliged not to dot the I and cross the T, or spell it out. Also, to maintain this scientific rigour, he cannot deny that man does change climate (locally), mostly due to land-use changes.
His son, appropriately named Junior, has a little more freedom on this score.

31. about 150+ people die every minute from all causes. about 250 are born every minute. one hell of a disaser would be needed to reverse what those numbers mean.

32.
he cannot deny that man does change climate (locally), mostly due to land-use changes.{/quote] RW
Very interesting…. a scale issue…. I am going to have to dig up some old Theory “Why Engineering design models (small Scale) don’t work when scaled up to reality (large Scale)” I.E. the Titanic (A no consensus Scientific theory…)
If the science is not meant to fit into Geological Time…. We can just wait for 27 years
and the threat of AGW is over. NOTE: The time date on Carbon Credits…
