Having said that, if Robert Fife’s report is true (and I believe it is, listen to his voice!), the news out of Newfoundland verges on the disturbing.
I’ve known several tens of Newfoundlander’s from my time in the forces . . . at that time they were like the “Gappers”, lots in. I can’t for the life of me see any one of them being either an instigator or a patsy. I hope that this report is a one off; that these strong and independent people are not being harassed because of a personal grudge by a loud-mouthed buffoon.

If this is true – Elections Canada and/or the RCMP should CHARGE Danny Boy Williams with criminal activities. And to think that Newfoundlanders fought for our Canadian freedoms – including free speech, freedom of associations, and the right to vote in our democracies. Danny Boy Williams should hang his in shame!
On the ground here in NL, conservative voters, both PC and CPC alike, are not swayed by Danny’s crap. Danny has clearly stated that this is his last term and thus has nothing to lose.
Voters and people on the ground know how this election is going to turn out and I believe they would rather be part of government than be outside it. I would expect to lose on of the existing seats CPC holds here to a strong personality NDP candidate but I think another one or two can be picked up by strong CPC candidates. I just hope that the ‘common man’ listening audience doesn’t buy into Danny’s vendetta and make us look like fools on the national scene.
So far, I have not heard anything from my provincial member, a PC back bencher in his first term. Should Danny ramp up this campaign and they start knocking or calling, he’ll be quickly reminded that it was people like me, not Danny, that put him where he is.
The people of Newfoundland and Labrador have a big problem on their hands with the out of control, vindictive Williams.
If he is in fact playing third world politics he should be charged, we live in a democracy and electoral intimidation is criminal activity.
If he doesn’t come out with his BIG mouth and deny these charges, he needs to be investigated by the RCMP. Somehow doubt the people of Newfoundland who say they’ve been intimidated or threatened with loss of business or jobs are lying about this.
My wife and I are from NL, though we now live in NS.
My father-in-law has been involved in municipal and provincial politics in NL for over 20 years and he has told me many times that businesses and political volunteers (of all colours) are constantly threatened by Danny and his crew. It’s been this way since Danny captured a majority, and it is fairly common knowledge that PC coercion was responsible in part for the party sweep in the last provincial election.
Yes, Williams does wield that much power. I assure you, Lance, that Mr. Fife’s report is accurate and no stretch of the truth whatsoever.
I see a big budget cbc/nfb film coming on called “The Gangs of NL”!

I comment a lot on this blog, and I go after the lefties pretty hard. Guys like Saskboy, leftdog etc. I give them no mercy when they come on here and try to pretend the CPC is some kind of eeeeevile collection of dubious characters.
This story is such a beautiful example of why I give these people no quarter. Whenever you see a story about political corruption as with Adscam, violence ans with the Quebec City rioting or flat outright intimidation as in this case, is it the CPC doing it?

Phantom, the Mighty Mouse/Rat of Newfoundland proudly proclaims himself a Progressive Conservative to distance himself from the Conservatives and Harper in particular. Thank God for that, he’s not welcome in the Conservative party. He’s corrupted by power he has no ability to handle if he can’t control his temper. Calling the Prime Minister a fraud may be allowed from an ordinary citizen but coming from someone who represents a province as it’s Premier calls for legal action and an apology.

If the allegations are true, the behaviour is outrageous. It is the worst of the corrupt, third-world politicking which makes so many third world nations oppressive, impoverished economic back waters. The RCMP and the Newfoundland Constabulary should be all over this one. I hope the people of NL have the courage and integrity to stand up to it.

For those who don’t know, the former fisheries minister interviewed is Jim Morgan. Also known around here as “Jigger Jim” He was caught illegally fishing cod, while serving as FISHERIES MINISTER, under Brian Peckford.

I lived there in the Smallwood days and things were never as bad as this. My Newfoundland grandfather fought in a world war for our freedom of speech as many over the years have done.
I have been following this for a long time – living in Saskatchewan but born in Nfld. Hopefully all my relatives down there will vote with their hearts and not be bullied. Please don’t listen to Danny William’s any more. He is getting very dangerous.

All it takes for the RCMP to become involved is for one or two to launch a formal complaint. If the intimidation and threats have been that widespread there should be problem getting some people to come forward with their allegations. Let’s hope that this happens. Williams is a thug who needs to be put in his place.

You have to ask yourself where the moral compass is in this country. I support the CP of Canada but even question their motives at times. As a previous poster suggested the RCMP certainly do not have a compass. It is suggested here in BC that the drug trade is a $8 billion business. If the RCMP bust a grow-op worth $2 million it is front page news. Who is getting paid off to look the other way for the rest of the drug business being done? I do dispair for my country as we spiral down the toilet.

There is indeed a great deal of intimidation going on. I posted a few links here in the past week showing Danny telling his caucus to get four people from each of their districts to write letters and phone into VOCM with talking points in his ABC campaign. He than publically challenged all of his caucus members to state publically their support for ABC, only the brillant and feisty Elizabeth Marshall abstained from the campaign, she of the gonads to resign as Health Minister because Danny settled a dispute within her portfolio without consulting her.
