Qais Ghanem, a Yemeni-born physician with a strong interest in the Middle East, has stirred debate among his fellow Greens on the party’s online discussion forum. The Greens’ Ottawa-South candidate has aligned himself with three other Green candidates to form what they call the “Ottawa Group of Four.” They are pushing the party to approve a resolution called “Palestine” that “calls upon Israel to end its forty-year occupation of all Arab lands without preconditions.”

I once read that it is one party, with affiliates in many countries, but policy is set by the board in europe. Actually, I like to see the Greens be stupid enough to still attract a certain number of left votes, but not too stupid as to scare many back to Wacky Jack or Dion. Let them spilt their votes and end up with fewer members elected.
If the US supported Saddam Hussein, and supported the Taliban, it certainly seems proper that they should correct their mistakes. American support for undesirables is used by Americans as an excuse for noninvolvement in the Middle East and Afghanistan, when in fact it is quite the opposite. IF they created a mess, it’s up to them to clean it up, at whatever cost in blood and treasure.
I doubt very much, however, that the problems of the Middle East are very much of American doing – Salafism has developed slowly over the past two centuries; the aggressions of the “Barbary Pirates” go back to the 17th century at least; it is not a fight which we as Canadians can avoid, whatever the Americans have done or are doing.
If there is one thing I fault the Harper government for it is not continually reinforcing why we are in Afghanistan.
It always gets stated as a fluffy Canadians need to pull their weight…generally that reason doesnt cut it with most, especially when the weight is dead soldiers.
We are there because the attack on 9/11 was launched from there, the government of Afghanistan, which was Taliban, was quite properly overthrown and the process of rebuilding and reinforcing the democratically elected government of afghanistan requires our presence.
As a reminder our presence is there becasue as a Nato ally the US invoked its rights under Nato. If we think Nato should be disbanded then that is a seperate discussion, which it would be nice to see the other side clearly state.

which will give the speed of the plane from the dopler sound and the echo time .

I don’t know much about metallurgy – not even sure how to spell it! – but I did spend two years in a steel mill after high school. I learned, by leaning on my broom and passing the time in careful observation, that it takes a surprisingly small amount of heat and pressure to turn steel into just about any shape you want. No need to melt it; just heat it and roll it.
I think that’s why I never doubted the official explanation, because it was d@mned obvious – thousands of tons pressing down on heated steel pillars = metal macaroni. Also because I are not a moonbat.

Re the speed of sound, I had 33 years in the Royal Canadian Artillery including a tour as the Chief Instructor at the School of Artillery. We timed the ‘flash to bang’ to determine how far away a round or an explosion was, and we used three seconds per kilometer as the speed of sound is about 333 metres per second at sea level at 59 degrees F. That is darn close to 1100 feet per second. (The artillery has been doing this for a very long time; Kipling included it in one of his poems about the Boer War.)You can do the same thing in a thunderstorm to see how far away the lightning is.
I know that the towers collapsed because aircraft were flown into them, and I do not subscribe to any of the moonbat theories.
