Prime Minister Stephen Harper is prepared to put his minority government on the line over the future of the Afghanistan mission after he warned Liberal Leader Stéphane Dion that the Tories are preparing a confidence motion that could be voted on as early as next week.
A source told The Globe and Mail that the government is prepared to give notice tomorrow of the motion that Canada’s role be extended. If the government were to lose, it could plunge the country into an election.

More: Is he a leader, or is he a flounder? Perhaps a fishing analogy would be better.

Dion is a buffoon and cannot stand up in an election and not make a total jack ass of himself
it could be far worst, he could be making a total jack layton of himself:-))))
wallyj, did you forget why the war started in the first place? Where is Osama anyway?
It seems since Iraq started the reasons for Afghanistan have been forgotten. http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m0WDQ/is_2001_Sept_24/ai_79440336
I can see Liberal members, not only NOT ABSTAINING, but actually voting WITH the government.
Sort of a SCREW YOU to Citoyen Dijon, and his merry band of idiotsavants.
Love how politics plays out sometimes!
I am wondering if we could see one or two or three Liberals cross the floor over this issue. My hope is that there is not an election over this. In such a case, we would probably see another CPC minority with a Liberal leadership review and Dion being replaced. The new leader may not be better than Dion but I say that Dion is doing fine for the CPC right now. Leave well enough alone.
Richard Ball:
Kate: He’s neither a leader or a flounder, but a flounderer. The flounderers’ theme song is sung by none other than… “Dion”:
Somehow it seems to me like its rhythym matches another tune:

I’m thinking of showing up to Liberal campaign stops with a white flag. Just wave it once in a while.
For the Libs, voting to bring down the government, forcing an election they would likely lose, actually has a bright side for them…A quick leadership convention to get rid of Dion in a face-saving way.
That scenario would be based on their calculation of another Conservative minority, of course. Which, I think, is a bad assumption on their part.
Bring it on!
This is only one of a few issues that are out there as a possible conifidence measure.
-omnibus crime bill in the senete for 2+ years, pass it by end of Feb or it is a confidence issue
-Afghan deployment to 2011
-Budget 2008
_For the first issue, it wouldn’t be a motion in the Leg, but a governmnet request to the GG, the house passed this 2 years ago and still it sits.
_Afghan deployment, the UN Sec General thinks the job Canada does is important and necessary and is happy to continue his authorization of the UN mission in Afghan. What part of an internationally supported UN mission does the other Canadian parties oppose and what do they want to do different? …if anything…
When Trudea ran against Stanfield, he promised no wage and price controls, when the Liberals defeated Clarks’ govt it was over budget they then brought in. When MacKenzie King was looking at the draft in WW2 he was, according to his journal, against it because it might impact his chance for a majority after the war. I am not making this up.
test
Maybe we should bring the Troops home to shovel Libforlifes driveway.
MP, R Jaffer has extended an invitation to send Ejackulayton to Afghanistan to negotiate with the Taliban.
Maybe I missed it, has a Canadian Soldier yet been killed by a Taliban bullet or bayonette ? No ? didnt think so.
