“This is what we want. We want them to engage with us. We don’t care
if they spit in our face, they yell at us. We want them to start exercising that.’ And just to have one girl stand up and really express herself, or one small boy or one adult finally express himself … I think that’s worth the seven months I’ve been here.”
Read ’em both.

And the point of having a @!#!*%! cartoonist in a HOT war zone would be?????

I don’t know about that? Seems you can get more packed into a cartoon than a five page load of rationalization or propaganda, not to mention BS. By cutting to the chase with satire.
Sometimes one image can encapsulate an event more readily, than an entire documentary.
Humor I might add, has laid low the mighty for ages. Any good politician knows when you become the joke, just not the object of said hilarity. Your threw in politics for the most part . The same can be said for a serious cartoon as well, if it catches the spirit of an event or person. Sometimes subtle art , is more telling.
More will see it, that’s for sure.
So this does not sound as crazy as at first blush.
Just my opinion.
I forced myself to watch a CBC report on the war in Iraq last night (not recommended, it made me feel sick). This AM I surfed to your website Kate, and read these two accounts written by two brave men. The two brave men, you post about, know the score, the CBC creepo was interested in smear. It makes me feel dirty and swarmy to know that the fine men you have posted articles from might have seen that low, mean, misinformation-based piece of dung directed at the President of United States and the soldiers who are fighting for the filthy hide of that nasty fool on CBC. The CBC had some traitors from the USA on that program too, the Phil Donahue types.
With msm playing a leading roll in helping the terrorists in the Middle East, it makes the job of the soldiers almost impossible because they are fighting a war on two fronts – one on the ground and one at home. Thank-you Kate for posting FOR our soldiers and the honorable mission they have been brave enough to accept.
I was a young woman when the soldiers from USA (and Canada) returned from Viet Nam in defeat. Citizens of both countries called these soldiers ‘baby killers’ and spit at them! The soldiers were fighting to stop the spread of Communism (nary a word was said about that!)and the ME,ME idiots who had never left the safety of their own ‘comfy fur’ had the unmitigated Gaul to judge these brave men – the media and seedy people like Jane Fonda and John Kerry were the main fools in the Circus of self hatred that the soldiers faced. I went to University with some VietNam Vets and they had very little respect for the people that they had fought for – they did have respect for the people of Cambodia and Viet Nam that had fought with them They lived a life of regret because they had stabbed their real allies in the back by leaving them alone to face the evil Viet Kong Communists and the Kong’s allies who HAD stayed. The soldiers were following the orders of their President and Congress and the President was following the orders of the squawking, screeching press gang types and the spineless hippy groupies who marched around with the media.
I pray that the soldiers in Iraq will not be humiliated like the soldiers of Viet Nam . Your site is read by many people Kate, please keep posting!!

STALIN MURDERED MORE PEOPLE THEN HITLER AND FIDEL CASTRO IS STILL A DESPOT AND TYRANT
These articles provide a good insight into what is really going on in Iraq.
I am really impressed with the soldier’s comments about Fallujah. They are really trying to make a difference and are committed and care about what they are doing. These guys are real leaders.
Also, I think that embedding cartoonists and media and politians in Iraq and Afghanistan is the best way for the US military and Bush to get the real message across and support Iraq and Democracy.
