Thank you for posting “On the Beach”. Our father introduced me to the novels of Neville Shute when I was about 10. Neville Shute died in 1960, age 60. I love his writing and the various plots. He especially loved Australia – On the Beach, In the Wet, A Town Like Alice , The Far Country, all excellent novels. I love the “can-do” spirit of his protagonists.
Don’t forget “Slide Rule”, the story about his time as an engineer on the R-100 dirigible project. It was a design competition of a private firm against the government R-101 dirigible. The design flaws in the government R-101 lead to its crash and the government losing faith in dirigibles.
For such a downer movie, it had an awfully cheerful theme song, didn’t it?
