Brussels Sprouts Cause Gas in Turtles, Too
A turtle given a Christmas ‘treat’ of Brussels sprouts at his sea life center home raised a rather large alarm with his reaction to the veggies.
After eating his snack, the turtle broke wind, causing bubbles to rise to the surface of his tank, where they popped and alerted the tank’s sensors, reported Metro.co.uk.
The alarm was raised and marine biologist Sarah Leaney rushed to the tank, afraid it was overflowing. Needless to say, it was nothing more than a little gas emergency.
“Sprouts are a healthy Christmas treat for sea turtles,” she said. “But they give similar side effects to those experienced by humans.”

All 17 smugglers have been captured, UNHCR said.
“The rescue operation is ongoing. There are 140 people still missing. Some of them may have made it to shore, and may be looking for assistance, and others of them may have drowned,” UNHCR spokeswoman Jennifer Pagonis said by telephone.

It’s good to note that Alex has provided a link to additional information on the Israel-Hezbollah conflict of this summer. Clearly, the NGO Monitor has its own agenda and that’s fine but readers should also take its information with a grain of salt as they should that from Amnesty or HRW.
I found it interesting to note that there was no denial or mention by NGO Watch of the use of cluster munitions by Israel or Hezbollah during the conflict and reports that the majority of Israel’s cluster munitions were fired during the 72 hours prior to the ceasefire. This information was also provided by Amnesty and HRW along with other NGOs. Israeli soldiers have confirmed the use of these weapons and we know that large areas (including civilian) are now contaminated by unexploded cluster submunitions.

gotta agree with that nemo. so the question is refined to: where in scripture does it say that God chose to do this? to have His Son ‘conceived’ on the same day as He was born? and if scripture doesnt support this assertion it kinda looks like hoss came up with it all on his own. a common practice amongst the fundamentalists.

Bollocks, your getting boring.
There is a difference between when an event happened and the date Catholics/Christrians choose to commemorate that event. That is what we have with the Feast of the Immaculate Conception. Pope Pius 1X by way of an encyclical in 1854 chose December 8th as the date to commemorate that event. Same thing with Christmas. Religious historians pretty much agree that December 25 was not the actual date that Christ was born. That is, however, the date that most Christians celebrate the birth of Christ.
I hope that this helps.
Look Bollocks, why don’t you set up a website and call it Bible B.S or something. Then you can argue your inane and totally uninteresting subject ’til your heart’s content.

And by the way, Lilith was supposedly the first wife of Adam, and she was one evil person. If you’re within a hundred miles of a bible, check out the Book of Isaiah.
I’ve always been confused by the genesis story in the bible. Who did Adamn and Eve’s sons marry? Did they have sisters or does the bible say other women were created too?
“something interesting and timely”
?
look jerry, discussing Christ’s birth at christmas isnt timely?
nah, youre just bereft of any ‘proof’. the boring part is the interminable waiting for hoss to cite his so called ‘proof’ the bible specifies december 25 as the key date.
also, what chapter and verses in Isaiah use the name ‘lilith’??? or is this just another boring invention of the religionists who insist on invention and interpretation to get scripture to align with their agenda?
so jerry, what are you afraid of? the truth? that ‘the christian tradition of christmas’ is a collosal FARCE AND FRAUD, an invention by man at tangent to scripture and God’s will? ANSWER THE GODAM QUESTIONS and then my postings on the issue will cease. I do in fact find probing and examining theological issues of this importance to be most interesting. you however appear to be in denial.
also, regarding the spouses of the children of Adam and Eve, as icky as it may sound today, and so it should, the fact is the genes of that first couple were in very good condition; there was no inclination to amplify genetic disorders by having children with a close relative.
they married each other and continued the population growth until, ummm, around the time of Lot possibly, when the edict came that incest was verboten. there was no longer any necessity to marry and sire children with a sibling, plus kinda like the ban on eating pork(trichinosis), God knew of the hidden dangers, ie, the looming perpetration of genetic disorders if siblings were to continue having offspring. this is why we need to obey God; He knows completely why such-and-such is a no-no. we dont have that perspective but historically there is a lot of proof of the advisibility of following His commands.
ah but Im a knee-jerk leftist so what would I know about this topic eh?

Further to Cal2โs link regarding the possibility of the Kaโbah originally being a Hindu temple, there is no doubt that it existed as a place of worship, a place to which pilgrimages were made, long before old Mo showed up and brought his own particular brand of evil to the world.
From Robert Spencerโs The Truth About Mohammed: The Quraysh [Muhammedโs tribe] did a lucrative trade from the pilgrimages to the local shrine, the Kaโbah, which housed numerous pagan idols โ chiefly the image of the god Hubal. The local gods of all the area tribes were represented in the shrine, along with other idols identified with trees and stones near the Kaโbah. โฆ the Prophet of Islam rode a camel to the Kaโbah. He found it full of idols โ 360 in all โ โฆ He ordered that all the idols be burned except for an icon of Jesus and Mary…
I knew mohammed had borrowed a lot of stuff usually in a mistranslated way from his travels on caravans. the link shows that a lot of the kaaba symbols were Hindu. this had never occured to me that the Indian empire had occupied this area as well. just one more ingredient in a misplaced mishmash of marakesh mullahs and misquotes.
Here they go again, wanting special supremicist privelege over the infidels in order to stifle all opinion and criticism. Perhaps a UN supported court in the Hague to behead those who would tell the truth about Mo?
“MWL Wants Lawsuits for Abuse of Islam and the Prophet,” by P.K. Abdul Ghafour in Arab News
JEDDAH, 28 December 2006 โ A two-day conference organized by the Makkah-based Muslim World League yesterday called for a consultative commission in order to take legal action against those who abuse Islam and its Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) and Islamic sanctities, at local and international courts of justice, the Saudi Press Agency said.
The conference titled โIn Defense of the Prophetโ called upon Islamic countries and governments to stand united to defend the Islamic faith and its Prophet. It denounced the smear campaigns to tarnish the image of the Prophet and urged Muslims to make all-out efforts to project the true picture of Islam and the great divine teachings of the Prophet.
MWL Secretary-General Abdullah Al-Turki said the attack on the Prophet was an expression of enmity toward Islam.
โThe whole Muslim Ummah, including its leadership, scholars and ordinary people was outraged by such attacks and this again shows the lofty position the Prophet has in their hearts,โ he said in reference to the Muslim response to cartoons depicting the Prophet.
MWL plans to launch an international program to introduce the Prophet and the conference called for setting up a fund to support the program. โThe anti-Islam campaign also intends to trigger a cultural conflict between the Islamic world and the West and create a situation of clash and conflict in place of dialogue and peaceful coexistence,โ the MWL chief said….
Jamal Badawi, a Canadian-Muslim expert on Islam, spoke about the Prophetโs outstanding influence on human history.
โThere is no other personality who has made such a positive impact on history,โ he told the conference.
Positive impact? Like living the perfect example for rapists, pedophiles, mass murderers, brigands, thieves, war mongers, destroyers, bigots, racists and otherwise, savages to follow?

The Blogosphere at War
I wrote this paper as an attempt to describe how the blogosphere works; to situate it vis-a-vis the mainstream media and to indicate some of the ways it can be used as a weapon of information warfare. The reader may find many of the ideas half-baked, and the reader would be right. But perhaps this flawed little monograph can contribute in some small way to a discussion of what the blogosphere is and what it’s future might be. I truly believe that “it is possible that in the long run the global public will come to rely on fellow Internet users to learn about the world more than it will from professional journalists.”
The Blogosphere At War
Background
There is considerable interest in the idea that “blogs” are somehow able to offset the mainstream media’s (MSM) ability to sell a given narrative to the public, a power which is of considerable interest in peace and even more so in war. It is widely recognized that molding public perceptions through narratives is nearly as important in war as the outcomes on the actual battlefield. Palestinian Media Watch convincingly demonstrates that Arab and Muslim organizations have long made influencing international publics through print and broadcast media a strategic goal, especially in any confrontation with Israel. This effort has historically followed two tracks: …- http://fallbackbelmont.blogspot.com/2006/12/blogosphere-at-war.html

Winning the Information War in Iraq
By Michael McBride
Thursday, December 28, 2006
Excerpt:
It is time for our military to accept the fact that the media is working against us. Yes, they pretend they arenโt, and they posture behind the thinnest of guises, but they are actively trying to subvert the intentions of the President, and in doing so, โfightingโ the military. It is time to fight back.
I am not talking about closing them down. I am talking about countering their methods and their messaging, and rendering their tactics harmless to our efforts. It can be done, and we should start by accepting that we no longer should be seeking their coverage as validation of our efforts or righteousness. They have gone beyond the pale, we no longer need them on our team, and in fact it is time to rid ourselves of them.
Then donโt look back.

Britain finally pays off World War Two loans
LONDON (Reuters) – The government said it will on Friday pay back the final instalments of loans taken out at the end of World War Two to finance vital reconstruction.
The payments of $83.25 million (42.4 million pounds) to the United States and $22.7 million to Canada will close the final chapter of the war and mean that in total the country has paid close to twice what it borrowed in 1945 and 1946.
“This week we finally honour in full our commitments to the U.S. and Canada for the support they gave us 60 years ago,” Treasury minister Ed Balls said on Thursday. “It was vital support which helped Britain defeat Nazi Germany and secure peace and prosperity in the post-war period. We honour our commitments to them now as they honoured their commitments to us all those years ago,” he added.
Britain borrowed a total of $4.3 billion from the United States in 1945, followed in 1946 by a loan of $1.2 billion from Canada — both at an interest rate of just two percent. …- http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/1759664/posts

Road to Mogadishu tells story of swift Somali victory
MOODE MOODE, Somalia, Dec 28 (Reuters) – The bloated corpses of Islamist fighters and an unbroken line of tank tracks along the Baidoa-Mogadishu highway tell the story of a swift advance for the Somali government and its Ethiopian allies. For at least 80 km (50 miles) east of the government’s base Baidoa, spent shells from heavy guns litter the road along which the battle for control for the Horn of Africa nation has played out over the last 10 days. At least two dozen bodies of Islamist fighters, swollen by the sun, lie in the thorny bush of Moode Moode,…
The Islamists had controlled Buur Hakaba for more then two months and massed troops there for their assault on Baidoa.
But residents — who complained the SICC had drastically cut the highway commerce the town survives on and imposed a brand of Islam too harsh for local customs — said its fighters had been quick to swap their fatigues for civilian clothes.
Many said they were happy to see the back of them.
“I am very glad. I did not expect them to lose so swiftly and I thank Allah for their failure,” said one local.
Another resident, 56-year-old Sheikh Ali Hassan, agreed.
“They have been here 65 days and I have never seen such abuse and harassment,” he told Reuters.

nah, youre just bereft of any ‘proof’. the boring part is the interminable waiting for hoss to cite his so called ‘proof’ the bible specifies december 25 as the key date.
also, what chapter and verses in Isaiah use the name ‘lilith’??? or is this just another boring invention of the religionists who insist on invention and interpretation to get scripture to align with their agenda?
so jerry, what are you afraid of? the truth? that ‘the christian tradition of christmas’ is a collosal FARCE AND FRAUD, an invention by man at tangent to scripture and God’s will?

Well, thank heavens our latest troll hasn’t happened on the fact that Ukranian Christmas isn’t on 25th of December. He would have the darndest time trying to figure out when the immaculate conception took place(other than his own, that is).
HUMANS were NOT designed to live in cold climates. Without proper clothing and shelter humans would die within a few days in Canadian cities. Therefore living in Canada is an insult to GOD. Everytime you live in Canada during the winter you are comitting mortal sin.
Further to Cal2โs link regarding the possibility of the Kaโbah originally being a Hindu temple, there is no doubt that it existed as a place of worship, a place to which pilgrimages were made, long before old Mo showed up and brought his own particular brand of evil to the world.
From Robert Spencerโs The Truth About Mohammed:
The Quraysh [Muhammedโs tribe] did a lucrative trade from the pilgrimages to the local shrine, the Kaโbah, which housed numerous pagan idols โ chiefly the image of the god Hubal.
For that little outburst of truth, I suppose I’d get sued.

My Dear Bollocks:
Firstly I never professed to be a Christian.
Secondly I never challenged you with regards to your assertations.
I simply pointed out that you are obsessed with some obscure point about the alleged birth date of Christ and that I, for one, am tiring of it.
You were the one that brought up the issue of Lilith, and I merely pointed to you in the direction you should follow to educate yourself in the issue of her alleged existence.
In no way did I ever express that what has been postulated on this post has ever been the truth.
I suggest you read what has been said before and quit reacting in such an insane manner.

This effort has historically followed two tracks: …-

“We have been Muslims for thousands of years. We have not been missing religion, we have been missing a government.” …-

ah, jerry thinks the world wide (‘ceppen ukraine) date selected for christian christmas is, what was it? oh ya, ‘obscure’.
whew !!! obscure !!! and as far as alleged lilith schmilith allegedly in the book of Isaiah, that was merely an example of how the hard right fundamentalists (see the *other* jerry aka falwell) insert all manner of topics into the discussion of scripture. theres no shortage of examples but I successfully made the point with just one.
and hoss, YOU are the confused one as to what constitutes conception vs birth.
as far as who is ‘tired’ Im VERY ‘tired’ of right wing ‘christians’ forcing the entire populace to kow tow to THEIR seriously flawed concept of the whole business of christmas.
