  3. Speaking of questionable RCMP conduct under Zaccardelli’s watch has anyone heard any recent news about the Curtis Dagenais affair? The circumstances regarding his arrest were highly suspicious – to the point where I’m not sure the next generation won’t consider him a political prisoner. Yeah, he shot and killed two cops but there is evidence that it was in self-defence and his arrest was bogus to begin with.

  4. Zac should have been canned long ago. Where are the results of the internal investigation of the Alberta shootings? Four good cops lost because of incompetent supervision and management. This is only one example of the RCMP fiddle-farting around hoping memories will dim before they have to release any embarrassing information.
    Can anyone possibly explain why no information has been released? They’re sitting on it and those types of direction come from the very top. Disgraceful!

    The mounting evidence about Zaccardelli’s career lead me to believe he took his marching orders from Jean Chretien, or later, Paul martin, and was reluctant to investigate government misdemeanours to the fullest extent.
    I think Zaccardelli, like Norman Inkster before him, forgot that he was there to serve the law of this country, not the Prime Minister.

    I was told there is no ‘absolutes’, ironically that is an absolute in itself.

  10. From my experience from patients in my practice, I suspect the RCMP, like many other large bureaucratic organizations, tends to protect the boys on top in most situations. I have personal knowledge of a fellow who was demoted because he truthfully reported that his superior had an alcohol problem (he did). He had excelled in his duties to that point and the demotion almost killed this guy because he lived and breathed the RCMP.

    they will turn on you and expect you to fall on your sword.
    way too politicized. feel free to google numerous incidents of questionable mountie involvement, including the ‘investigation’ of the whistleblower in the cretien-golf club financing-affair.
    personally, a big factor in forgiving someone is they first have to ADMIT a wrongdoing occurred. I dont see this clearly done with zacardelli, he’s still waffling. he hasn’t outright unequivocally admitted lying. secondly they have to ask for forgiveness. but IN THAT ORDER.
    so far I have forgiven 100% of people who have wronged me and done the above 2 steps and have tried it with some success with others.
    zacardelli was the top cop in the country and he is a godam liar. so where do we go from here?
    any rebuttals now to my ‘cops are tops BULL’ position ???

  12. If the RCMP have a tarnished image blame the interference of government in turning the force into some sort of socio-economic hiring machine.
    Instead of hiring best recruits possible the RCMP were reqired to begin meeting quotas and give preference to bilingual recruits.
    When you ignore quality the result is always mediocrity in your product.

  14. I’m having trouble believing the Arar affair was a complete cluster-f**k. Surely CSIS didn’t pull his name out of a hat. Does anyone have background on this? Do we really have the keystone cops at work here? I have a hard time believing this and without evidence to the contrary, must suspect a cover-up.

  15. OT: Did anyone watch Peter M interview Dion, with questions from the people. Watch it Alberta, he is going to hit us with a carbon tax. He says Alberta and Sask will vote for him because he supports the CWB. Will only give up French citizenship if it becomes a problem and might keep Harper in office. Peter M also holds 2 passports. Cdn and British, born in Britain. Is that why he is so loyal to european ideas. Dion loves his mother and everything she gave him (thought he was going to cry) including french citizenship. Did they have this kind of interview when Harper, Day, or Manning was elected leader of the OPPOSITION. Someone should inform the CBC, this idiot is not the PM. and probably never will be.

  17. Bob Stenhouse will succeed at whatever he does because hew forgives and moves on. All too often the victim suffers more pain by holding a grudge then the person who caused them the pain. Zaccardelli owned up to it, granted late, and is getting no severance. Hopefully, he learns and moves on and succeeds as well. He probably joined the mounties all those years ago for the right reason, how he got lost is anybodies’ guess.

You very obviously have no idea as to what the everyday RCMP member does for us. That you would denegrate the “cop on the beat” because of the corruption at the top only illustrates your complete ignorance about what our magnificent RCMP officers do for us every day of the year.
    Take some time to educate yourself on the subject before you let the whole world know just how absolutely ignorant and stupid you are. I simply despise your utter ignorance and stupidity! You owe every man and women who wear the uniform of the greatest police force in the world a big and heartfelt apology. The time is here and now for your to make that apology. I and many others are waiting but knowing how completely ignorant you are we are not holding our colletive breath.

    it worked. she saved her man. such devotion and quiet iron will.
    and her “fury” which was actually a simple non-stop increasingly determined effort to get him out of harm’s way, has now ‘ta da !!! karma strikes agin !!!’ resulted in the FIRST TIME an rcmp (arse see ’em pee LOL !!!) commissioner has resigned in disgrace.
    looks good on him. I just sent a fax to the rcmp (arse see ’em pee) public complaints people to that effect.

    Im sure Arar will have a very special gift for her from the 10s of millions he gets in the lawsuit.

    You should check out the RCMP web site and you will see that being bilingual is not a pre-requisite to employment…there are a number of pre-requesites one of which is “must be of good moral character-honest etc etc next time try to get your facts right……..thank you

  26. a real big problem with the hiring practices of the RCMP is NOT the bilingualism but the “favortism” towards the female applicants……go the web sight and you will see for yourself….they will get paid the same as the man once all the training is done but to complete training the females do not have to do the same training…eg the male recruits must be able to run 3 miles in 22 minutes, the women are allowed 24 or 25 minutes…WHY???..the male recruits have to be able to carry 100lbs. for a certain distance, the females 75 lbs…WHY??? it goes on and on and on….do you EVER see women on the Emergency Response Team??? no that would be TOO dangerous for them BUT it is OKAY to have the men do this utmost dangerous job??? talk about equality..there is none…..next time you see a situation that is dangerous..look arounf and see who the top guys are out there…it will be the MEN……that’s all for now…just think about it okay…look at who gets promoted faster…talk to your friends that are Mounties and you will see,,,,and to BOLLOCKS,,,you are such an IDIOT…I wonder who you will call when your life is endangered, the Police or your MOM???

  27. My thoughts are that the PMSH would have loved to have terminated the employement of the Liberal Annointed Commissioner of the RCMP earlier rather than later. This would have been met with howls from the Liberano Opposition and the (Liberano lapdogs}. Guess what? They have been outmanouvered again.

  30. Hello all, I thought I would wade in to the conversation and do so with a little trepidation and sadness. As my blog generated this conversation I thought it could be appropriate that I put in my two cents. As for the RCMP, I love the profession and many men and women that are toiling diligently to protect this country. I have had the honor of working with the best, both men and women, who were highly ethical, intelligent, diligent, and effective. That being said I have to admit that often times good work was done in spite of the culture. Sadly, like any environment ( possibly even website conversations :), good work and goodness is very often overshadowed by the seven deadly sins, of which we are all capable of indulging.
    The issue of accountability and integrity, honor and courage, in policing is complex because we are dealing with fallible human beings. The environment is not conducive to maintaining grace and dignity. Hearts get hardened, bitterness creeps in, pride and arrogance form a wall around the hurt and pain that one endures on a daily basis that comes from being a front line responder to every despicable thing that one human being could do to another.
    But I make here one observation. Is the attitude that gets fuelled in these dialogues, seemingly one of anger and contempt, all that different from an attitude that fuels violent crime, abuse, and hatred. The attitude in our hearts to one another can be just as destructive in words as it is in its physical manifestation.
    Be good to one another folks…. it’s Christmas!

  31. Great advice, Stenhouse. Getting back to RCMP favoritism. I suppose that there is some but not related to the recruitment by the RCMP. It is a well known fact that the RCMP is in a huge recruiting program and has been for some time now. Some people who are qualifying today would never have been considered even five years ago. There is no bi-lingual requirement and the number of men entering force still greatly exceed that of women.
    Some of the comments made by alterboy regarding who is tougher and braver and bigger – I suppose that this is true in some cases but there are no absolutes here. My son-in-law had four females in his troup and he said that 3 of the 4 were outstanding as cadets and he thought that they would be excellent officers in the field. I have personally known several female officers who did their jobs very well – all aspects of their work.

  35. Alterboy – Let me see if I can give you a little example of what I am talking about since you are incapable of grasping concepts. I have 3 children. I want to treat them all fairly. One child comes to me and says he needs $10,000 for a down payment on a house. I decide to give the child (grown-up) the money for a downpayment. Does that mean I have to dig up another $20,000 to give to the other two. No. I have not treated them equally but I have been fair. The one child had a need that the other two didn’t have. At some point the other two may very well need my help and I will be fair to them at that time.
    You see, Alterboy, there is a parallel here to the RCMP thing. You are correct when you say that women and men are not generally physical equals however to deny that women have useful talents to bring to the job of policing is just plain ignorant. To deny women the opportunity to serve in the RCMP because they might be physically inferior is being completely unFAIR. You see, its all about fairness – not equality. I think that we can all agree that men and women are not “equal”. Men are better at some things, women at other things. I have two daughters. Equality is NOT what they want. Just FAIRNESS. I think you’ll find that this is what most women really want.
    Now alterboy, if you can’t grasp the difference I’m afraid there is not much more that I or anyone else can do to help you.

    Being the father of two adult kids, both of whom bank at “The Bank of Mom & Dad”, and, fortunately, being in a pretty decent financial position, I have struggled with the concept of “fairness” vs. “equal”.
    And I have used your approach, on the basis that, at the end, everything comes out pretty much equally…
