Dinning vs Morton vs Stelmach.
What liberal bias? For sheer entertainment value, check out this this ridiculous Globe and Mail piece. I’ve taken the liberty of adding the emphasis the headline writers intended.

And they don’t get to blame the headline writers for this bit of sneer;
The religious right in this rural area southeast of Calgary mobilized behind Ted Morton, a social conservative who preaches so-called family values.
I look forward to future articles by Walton and Harding to apply “so-called” to the words “Canadian values”.
The G&M feedback link is here.
Results are being posted here, at Larry Johnsrude’s Edmonton Journal blog. (But not very quickly. I think he’s partying with the Stelmach people. Why are journos so bad at blogging?)
You can also follow reports at 660news.com, though there’s no continuous coverage that I’m aware of anywhere.
Or, just read the comments – it seems our readers are bringing them in faster than either of the sources listed above. (I’m updating as they come in)
Results so far in the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership race with 79/83 polls reporting:
48,543 Jim Dinning
44,046 Ed Stelmach
36,071 Ted Morton
(CTV Calgary hasn’t bothered updating since 11:00 pm mtn)
B. Hoax Aware comments “Amazing. The MSM has abandoned leadership election results reporting to sda !!”
A blogging note – you sure can tell when it’s a big political day around here… just past midnight (Sk time) and there have been 662 visits in the last hour.
And just for fun another poll going horribly wrong…
11:43 pm in Alberta …based on current tallies, and the likely results of the Morton second choice ballots, the SDA Decision Desk is projecting Ed Stelmach the new Premier of Alberta… Now, I’m off to bed, in anticipation of preparing crow for breakfast. Continuing coverage in the comments, presumably.
Morning update
Last Update: 1:25 AM– Sunday December 03
Results from the Alberta Progressive Conservative leadership race with 83/83 polls reporting:
Ed Stelmach 51, 764
Jim Dinning 51, 282
Ted Morton 41, 243
I haven’t read them all, but the comments look to be a hoot.
Ural – “Let me be the first to congratulate the SDA Decision Desk on projecting the winner correctly a full hour and 20 minutes before MSM.”
Cal2 – “sure glad our Liberal Media CBCpravda kept up with the Alberta election – 13 hours between postings on the Pravda website 630 yesterday to 730 this morning . Bit of a contrast compared to the all day luvfest they had commercial free for their liberals.”
MaryT – “Everyone is asking what happened to Dinnings campaign, but no one has said, it became public that he donated mega bucks to Paul Martins campaign last January. That info shocked a lot of people. Be fun to read the Calgary Sun tomorrow. Maybe now the city elites will stop knocking rural Alberta. Ed took several polls in Calgary, explain that.”
Tomax7 – “…pretty sad when Albertan’s gotta get historic news from a Sask blogsite eh?”

Cheri: the 2 min Tories (Liberals in sheep clothing).
…this is a good example of how democracy can get derailed.
i agree with tim…i’m not at all impressed with ed’s presentation…could be nerves…but he’s not supposed to have nerves, he’s a politican, right? he didn’t seem that he was really sure of himself….
…well i’m off…been an exciting night.
Night all.
…and I hope, Tim, you’re wrong.
😉
“…pretty sad when Albertan’s gotta get historic news from a Sask blogsite eh?”
Make that a blogsite – it’s not sad, that’s the nature of MSM.
Some #’s from the aforementioned blogspot (renewingtheonepartystate):
“Finally found some final numbers
Dinning: 51282 4227 (10.3%) (second choice)=55509 (41.7%)
Stelmach: 51764 25813 (63.0%)(second choice)=77577 (58.3%)
No second choice: 10936 (26.7%) ”
thanks for the election coverage sda…
I hope I am wrong as well Tomax7. As a matter of fact I hope I am so wrong that I must eat crow for as long as the man is our premiere. But from what I just saw, lets say the crows should not be worried.
sadly, Tim, I’m with you.
Take heart Alberta conservatives, of the 144000 votes cast only about 35% voted for a Liberal candidate while the other 65% voted for the conservative candidates. Just imagine what could have happened, Bob Rae and Jim Dinning could have been leading instead of Dion and Stelmach. Eating crow would have been the least of our worries.
Now, how do we get rid of Doer and Calvert?
Well, I’m up again and off to work. If the sun doesn’t rise I guess we’ll use the lights.
Disgusted, saddened and depressed. Stelmach is a nothing man in an apparant nothing land. I think it’s just about time to go back to the bush.

sure glad our Liberal Media CBCpravda kept up with the Alberta election – 13 hours between postings on the Pravda website 630 yesterday to 730 this morning . Bit of a contrast compared to the all day luvfest they had commercial free for their liberals.
146000 voters in the provincial party Alberta Conservative election, 4600 voters in the federal party Liberal, that gives a representation ratio for joe average over three hundred times that of the federal liberanos.
Has Iggy got his ticket home yet?
G&M commentary: I’m sure the metrosexuals at the mop and pail would love to have Alberta governed from the big smoke or better yet, Ottawa, but they reinfoce the point Morton got out to Albertans in the electon: TO and Montreal want your wad and they want a weak Alberta Premier who will give it to them.
Stelmach win: a vast compromise for the PCs…there is still to much distance between mainstream conservatives and Eddy’s status quo line….I think the Albera PCs will lose even more seats in the next election and froom that point go on death watch like the socreds before them when they became “status quo” and irrelevant to Alberta’s voters.
Thanks for the coverage Kate & the Krew
The 1 billion $ CBC Tax Grab should go to you.
Compadres!
Hard to believe but this past evening was the first time I visited SDA. Kudos to all incl. Kate!
I can confirm that MSM coverage of AB-election was pitiful. The “comments” section of SDA was INVALUABLE!
Disclosure … I supported Morton and agonized over #2 selection. Yesterday A.M. I heard a summation comment by ES ……… I just couldn’t believe how inept he came across the air-waves AND I have been steeled at viewing him for months! I opted for JD as #2 … for seemingly ‘optics’ reasons! So much for credibility, eh? … as Kinadiens say … sorry!
Some bizzaro stuff from the week leading up …
– Liberal MLA’s lett-to-ed in Calg. Herald gets printed, endorsing ES! They know they can wipe the floor with him as PC Leader? Hmmmm
– JD’s ranting this past week was disgusting and puerile … then he says some such thing like his campaign was merely providing comparisons with TM’s … sheesh ??? My sense is that JD lost considerable respect and votes due to his overt pressing of the fear button!
– TM comes across brilliantly on Dave Rutherford’s talk show late in the week, before 1st Ballot voting. Convinced me he would have been a great Premier.
– Every lefty voting against TM had an effect to be sure … the cancellation effect is significant. This must be stopped/blunted somehow … member sales up to 7 days before final vote?
– for some reason I liked the preferential ballot.
– ES will certainly be given a substantial honeymoon period after all he is such a nice guy!
– if TM not given substantial influence then CARUMBA … things could get really interesting indeed! A strong right-of-centre second Party would generate a prospect for the Libs to come up the middle.
– I don’t like that scenario BUT the what-ifs are intriguing. Surely ES will not deny TM, and by extension his supporters, considerable influence … it just seems inconceivable that ES could be that stupid?
Thanks for the site Kate! Thanks for your patience in dealing with this long comment!
Blessings to you all!
Syncro: I’d agree with the nothing man part so far but we are not a nothing place. After this loss, I think the Alberta Alliance is clapping their hands with glee. Now if they only had a leader with more charisma than a sock, perhaps the winds of change would start blowing.
I had given up on the MSM coverage of the election, this is the first site I came to this morning, after I found no results in this morning’s Calgary Sun. unforunately I’m not terribly happy about those results but thanks SDA.
Well.
I voted Morton for all the same reasons as the rest of you. While I’m disappointed at the outcome, at least we didn’t get stuck with Dinning.
Stelmach is my MLA, maybe if he’s such a mushpuppy I can make him build some new stuff around here. Or do away with property tax, or something.
I really hope that PC voters do not go Alliance. That smells like a liberal minority in the next provincial election.
Thanks for the Alberta election coverage Kate. The msm were all day, all gushing, over the Liberano$. It really was quite the show!! The msm are the pathetic worthless fools of a group of elitists who laugh at them. Liberano$/Dippers would shoo them away like blow flys if the msm stepped out of the cage. Alberta people were lucky to have you to turn to, Kate. It is hard to believe that the wealthiest province in Canada could not afford to hire a reporter for the province’s leadership race!! The Liberano$ leadership race was really not important, it was that of a opposition party, the Premiere of Alta will have instant power; the Liberano$ will only be an opposition posting – no power. Listining to that propaganda made me sick. What mindless fools.
Watching the Liberal leadership convention and the CBC and CTV commentaries convinced me again that the only agenda for the Liberals is Quebec. The West didn’t even rate being mentioned. Canadian unity has to do with Quebec. I had the feeling, ” does this party even represent my country” or “was I watching a leadership convention taking place in another country”. Another Liberal leader from Quebec, the third in a row and four out of past five. And yet a majority of Quebecers still feel that they don’t belong to Canada.
Ha ha ha.
Your nutbag lost.
Do you really consider yourself a political analyst? More like a ideologue.
Yes, you folks were all real lucky to have Kate’s astute analysis. I hope she keeps it up all the way through the next election! Nothing brings home an election for my side like a bunch of intolerants wanting to impose their far-right agenda on others!
Hows the crow?
Machinator – you might brush up on your reading skills before sticking your neck out on the “analysis” of others.
…speaking of ANALysis, what did Machinator think of the election coverage?
I think it’s good fun that Liberals and NDP’ers got out to influence the AB outcome. That’s democracy.
If it’s any consolation to those who like him, maybe Morton would have won had it been based on an internet poll.
Interesting comment in Monday’s Calgary Sun.
Anti-Calgary sentiment is the main reason Ed Stelmach was able to come from behind to take over the reins of the Tory party, insiders and analysts said yesterday.

Oh, man, I al so going to start saying “So-called Canadian Values”, any time I ever have the opportunity.
I might even have to make opportunities.
