Dispatches

From the 5th Annual Defense Forum in Washington, DC;

Today’s keynote speaker was the Vice Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, Admiral Edmund Giambastiani, who began by saying, “We are engaged in an “all-hands fight,” and that it requires “friends, allies, and a focus on those who would destroy our way of life.”
Admiral Giambastiani made three main points. First, he shed some light on what he referred to as the “non-kinetic” aspect of the war, and the Navy and Marine Corps contributions to that fight.
“Our success in Iraq and Afghanistan is foremost in our minds, but the Long War is also being fought in the realm of ideas. It is a struggle between extremists and the vast majority of Muslims.” Moreover, he stated that “The struggle within the Muslim community is off-limits to us. It is a struggle among them.” However, he stated, “We do have a tremendous impact in setting the conditions under which this struggle takes place. To the extent that extremists can claim a clash of civilizations, then they receive support within Islam.”
He then drew attention to the details of Indian Ocean Tsunami Relief in 2004 and Pakistani earthquake relief more recently.
Thanks to US military efforts, “the favorite toy in Pakistan today is a Chinook helicopter,” he said. “When US engineering forces left, we left all the heavy equipment behind for the Pakistanis…” along with all of the hospital equipment too.

Related – Check out Damian Brooks at The Torch for a discussion of yesterday’s friendly fire incident, while Cjunk is your best bet for following the day to day reports on both the Canadian Forces progress in Afghanistan and those intent on undermining the mission.

Thanks Jack; I’m sure they toasted you with tea and murmurs of approval in the Taliban caves along the Afghan-Pakistan border. In the mean time, truly honorable men are fighting and dying in the name of freedom and democracy. While Jack plays the socialist hero at home; our true heroes are doing genuine socialist work in Afghanistan by ridding some of the poorest people on earth of the very tyrants who would hold them down forever.

“–duh, after going throught the hardships of trying to recruiting french speaking canadians during WW1, would expect any different?”
I do not see the correlation here.
    jacobin also said:
“it’s all smoke and mirrors, canada today is still a british colony”
Wow, wouldn’t ya say colonialism is working out pretty well then? 😛

  2. jacobin says
–if this is a war, and they hate us for our freedoms who are these islamofascist?
you are beyond hope. best put on the burka maybe that will tell you who and they are.
don’t feed the trolls, repeat after me don’t feed the trolls…geez

  3. “I do not see the correlation here”
    WW1 conscription
–No ties or loyalty to Britain, assimilation, all english and no french regiments
–few French Canadians were willing to risk their lives in its defence, for over a century following the British conquest of New France in 1760, France showed no interest in the welfare of French Canadians
so how do you overcome this? you pretend as if Canada declared war on her own as a sovereign nation for the first time, and therefore french speaking canadians feel as if they are a part of a new country not some colony worth fighting for

  4. Jacobin..please shut up..on these topics you are wrong, because your grasp and knowledge of these events are tenuous at best.i suggest you re-read some history books…
    enough! begone!

  5. Kursk, you are making an assumption that some juveniles can read. Somehow I think reading comprehension is even farther down on some people’s skill set.
I have personally made an effort not to feed the troll.

  6. jacobin to Texas Canuck (9:39)
Something about 603,000 Muslims… as if YOU give a damn about ’em. You don’t give a damn about, oh, 30,000+ innocent people killed by the Taliban if Afghanistan during their “reign-of-terror”.
You don’t hold the high ground here, so cut the high flown left-wing crap.
Why are you so worried about Canadian soldiers, anyway? You care as much about those Iron Men as you do about Afghanistan’s women… or Darfur’s blacks, for that matter. It’s so readily obvious you’re just using our soldiers for some sort of leverage to spout drivel about your take on international political affairs.
Do you know just how transparent your postings make you appear?
So cut the crapola, you unmitigated phony.
The men and women are trying to have a discussion here…

  7. “so how do you overcome this? you pretend as if Canada declared war on her own as a sovereign nation for the first time, and therefore french speaking canadians feel as if they are a part of a new country not some colony worth fighting for”
France? France… Oh yeah thats the place Germany over-ran and helped export thousands of Jews and homosexuals, and lefties to concentration camps.
No wonder the Quebecois didn’t care right jacobin?
Man you are one stupid dude. I’ll buy a bit of the argument that this war in Afghanistan and Iraq may be a waste of our money time and importantly – lives, especially since the rest of the world hates us even more. But what I won’t buy is why the lefties support fascists who’d take away all their rights once they had control? I just cannot understand the connection. Every time I see Women’s Rights groups and Raging Grannies marching beside young kids posing in islamoterrorist garb I really wonder who’s side the liberals are on? Free speech and human rights or banjo-picking-nazi replicas from the middle east?

  8. incredible!
why take on the troll? not by name, not at all!
    verbose and vapid; malingering and obtuse;
do not feed the trolls; just say bite me!

  9. “germany attacked britain, and canada being a british colony declared war on germany!

jacobin, you have alot of nerve telling others to educate themselves. First, your spelling and grammar. Sorry, I do not usually go in for such flames, however, in your case, it needs to be pointed out to you as the subtleties of reality appear to escape you. Attacking another’s intelligence whilst appearing as un-intelligent as you do smacks of a certain hypocrisy.
Second, look at the above post. If you believe that Canada was a British colony in 1939, then either you dropped out of school too early, or you are a moron. I am leaning heavily on the latter.
jacobin, you have not the foggiest clue as to what you are talking about. You obviously belong to the elitist, “educated” (the opposite has proven true in your case), rich left… The silver spoon generation, who’s parents never said “no” to nor disciplined you at all in your life. The signs of your ignorance abound in your writings in the different threads that you have chosen to torture us with your diatribes in.
If you so strongly believe the garbage you are spouting, please feel free to hop the next puddle jumper on over there, and join your friends in the insurgency. But, who am I kidding. You lack the courage of your convictions. Your bravery ends at the anonymity of your computer.
People like you, the nauseous little people that would not call 911 when someone is getting mugged, are a blight on society, and a drain on the social consciousness of all Canadians. You are the definition of the rot at the core of this nation.

  10. Everybody screams that this particular troll knows nothing about the subjects at hand and needs further education.
But that is the trouble with so many today.
Their education comes from news sound bites and ends there as well.
This poor soul obviously fits into that catagory.
It would be encouraging if all who think that we have the luxury of time and discussion about this war would only look at the Beslan outrage.
It happens in an instant and just like lightning, lives are destroyed and a whole community is left in ruins.
Beslan has not lingered in the news headlines, but the lives have been totally devastated in that community and will NEVER be the same.
That is what happens when terror comes calling.
They care not for human life and take our most precious first if they can.
There is NO talking to the taliban or any terrorist organization. When they tell you to your face, as the terrorists of all stripes have done so, that they want you dead, there IS no discussion.
We will and we must fight them anywhere and everywhere. The luxury of discussing it has long since past.
It is the kind of ignorance displayed by the likes of Layton and the trolls who find their way here as well as many thousand of our fellow citizens who are really ignorant of the issues we face that is so extremely dangerous for us all.
IF there was any indication that there was a willingness to actually learn there might be hope. But there isn’t. Just an attack from any and all angles.
When the settlers were being attacked by the indians they could not tolerate an attack or a hindrance within their fortresses or homes: Pass the guns, load the amunition or get the hell out of the way!
And that is what the left is: A hindrance. A danger. And all the ignoramouses who actually buy their bull when they should be locking and loading!

  11. RE: Friendly fire. CJunks post is a good one.
This latest incident is really disturbing.
I remember that officer in Kuwait who shot several of his fellow officers and I’m always paranoid about enemy infiltrators or cels in the military and police.
Also, IMO if the West wins the WOT Bush could go down in history as a President like Lincoln or Reagan.
If the WOT is won and the ME democratizes, Bush will have been one of the handful of USA Presidents whose administration worked to free many, many millions of people.
Like Pres. Bush said right after 9/11, this war will be a long one. The power and the control of the Taliban, Hezbollah, Sadam Hussein and the Iraqi Ba’athist Party, Hamas and Fatah, the Syrian Ba’athist Party, The Iranian Regime, the North Korean Regime must all be challenged and curtailed and/or defeated.
And that is a very big if, especially with the likes of jacobin and his fellow travelers in the NDP and Liberal parties continuously attacking and undermining the Western leaders and their Allies. The left will constantly attack Canadas military positioning and PMSH really could become the best PM we never had.
Also IMHO, Pres. Jimmy Carter will undoubtedly be remembered as one of the worst American Presidents ever.

  12. I posted this earlier but on the wrong thread. Sorry about that.
Like a few others on this thread, I’ve been trying to figure out who (or what) Jacobin is. My guess, based mostly on his Anglophobia, is that he is neither muslim nor leftist, but a true blue descendent of those loveable Quebecois folks who cheered for the Nazis before (and even during) WWII. This would also explain his difficulties with English spelling and grammar.
He is obviously very young, brainwashed and extremely agitated, so be thankful that he is venting his spleen on SDA and not busy placing bombs or setting fire to Jewish schools.

  13. Ah yes, the insightful material to be found on C Junk. Like today I see a reference there to Layton which speaks of ” millions of his clones” across Canada. I have learned that people who locate themselves on the Political right, the far right, you know, the Calgary knuckle draggers are not too swift and have a lot of trouble with anything past Dick and Jane. Now I see they do not do much better on Arithmetic.
Maybe the Chinese have the right idea with sending such like out to the country side to pick up some reality therapy among the farmers. We could send looney tune Albertans to spend a few months on Farms around Quebec City. They could learn how to spell Corn Flakes in French without gagging.

  14. Canadian soldiers think they’re gonna change Muslim doctrine but they won’t. They’re young and easily influenced and caught up in the rush of battle. The blood of these young men is on our Tory fools who are waging this war.I couldn’t imagine having to go to war because America wants us there. This war is wrong and parliament should hold an emergency session to debate it. If you Tories are so sure the people of Canada want us at war debate it in Ottawa. One of these days the USA is going to pick on the wrong nation and we North Americans will pay. Notice I say North Americans. This war is not what Canada is. We are known as peace keepers/Makers and that’s something we should be proud of not killing over idealogy. We will never succeed in Afghanistan. Russia tried, other nations over the centuries have tried and now we’re there. Why?? Because America says so.

  15. You mention Nazis like you’re an authority. Do you know what Facists are or do you like using big words because it makes you feel important???
You Tories are flirting with facism.

  16. ok4u
    …our Tory fools…
Excuse me, but it was the lefties (aka Chretien and Martin) who got us into Afghanistan. Now that the ‘Ghans are proving to be a bit tougher than anticipated, you’re howling that we should “bring our boys home”. Great plan. Then the country can joyfully return to being a medieval shit hole with zero human rights, no hope for the future, lots of public executions after Friday prayers and, possibly, a return of Al Quaida to their sanctuary.

  17. Right you are Zog. Afghanistan would become a real shit hole. It would be a nice place to send all the Lefties for a vacation. They could get seats in the soccer stadiums to watch women be stoned to death for things like going out without a man or other trivial reason .
Some of these Socialists posting here have no clue. They are running down their own beliefs. Nazism, Communism and facism are all Socialist movements.Granted the NDP and Lefty Liberals here are operating in a Democracy, they don’t have total control, they just put forth their sometimes zany ideas and hope to implement them.
The Conservative Party is not a socialist party.
It’s not the fault of the Conservative Party that the Liberals have self destructed and the NDP are on another Planet,it may be Nebula, it’s composed of gaseous matter.
The Stephen Harper Conservative Government are doing a stellar job of running the country and it’s killing all the Lefties/Socialists. Eat your hearts out!
