Wuhan Flu

Sorry, America, the Full Lockdown Is Coming.

Whether you are reading this in your living room in Vancouver, office in London, or on a subway in New York City, you need to think hard, and fast, about two crucial questions: Where, and with whom, do you want to spend the next six to 12 weeks of your life, hunkered down for the epidemic duration? And what can you do to make that place as safe as possible for yourself and those around you?

Your time to answer those questions is very short—a few days, at most. Airports will close, trains will shut down, gasoline supplies may dwindle, and roadblocks may be set up. Nations are closing their borders, and as the numbers of sick rise, towns, suburbs, even entire counties will try to shut the virus out by blocking travel. Wherever you decide to settle down this week is likely to be the place in which you will be stuck for the duration of your epidemic.

To appreciate what lies ahead for the United States, Canada, Mexico, and the United Kingdom, pay heed to Italy, France, and Germany. The United States, for example, is currently tracking exactly where Italy was about 10 days ago. France and Germany, which track two to five days ahead of the United States, are now revving up measures akin to those taken by Italy, including lockdowns on movement and social activity. In a matter of days, the United States will follow suit.

If you live alone, have no family members or close friends who require your special attention, and have no alternative living space, you have no decision to make. You are where you will be for coming weeks.

You have to have an authorization paper to walk your dog: Only 10 days ago in Rome, Katherine Wilson, a mother of two who lives in Rome, said she wished that she and other Italians had listened to warnings about the coronavirus. She warned Americans not to make “similar misguided choices.”

As an aside, there’s now unconfirmed chatter that a woman with COVID-19 broke quarantine to go pub crawling in Saskatoon on Saturday. Reddit sourced, so ymmv.

  1. I’m sure that Prinz Dummkopf would just love a full lock-down of the country. It would impress the U. N. as it would show he’s decisive and a man of action.

    1. Lets see my son has Type 1 insulin dependent diabetes and is in the direct firing line for the virus.
Dad turned 91 last week and his wife has a heart arrhythmia.
Daughter is a nurse, and taking shifts.
2nd daughter’s serving job just got deep sixed.
Wife’s job as registered dental hygienist just got canned along with 15000 other dental care workers; due to one infected individual.
And in my job as a financial planner, Toilet Paper is the new currency. 🙂

So yes I just need ‘buoy wonder with the wavy hair’, who admires Chinese dictatorships, to “come and improve my life”.

Please let us know how your week is going!

No funerals among friends and family thus far; so all in all a splendid week…oh and stock up on “halo-polisher”. 🙂
Prayer doesn’t hurt either and keeps you humble.

      Cheers

      1st Saint Nicolaas Army

      1. I hear you Hans , daughter is a nurse in Toronto, I won’t repeat what I’ve heard from her. Or from a treasured co-worker in London about his wife that watched her co-worker get sent home because she was in contact with anothet nurse who showed up to a meeting symptomatic with wuhan flu. But she had to work.
I sence a cluster fk, my daughter does as well thats why she said tonght ” I wish I was at home and safe” and shes no coward, she’s smart.shes seen stuff that has brought me to tears.
Troubled times may be ahead I afraid.
God bless each and every one of you, and espeacially Kate and your family.
It may be a brand new world.
        I hope for the better.

  2. People need to start pushing back. Plenty of evidence out there that this is not the epidemic it is being made out to be.

And again this is coming from a guy who sold his stocks, loaded up on supplies and quarantined his family almost two months ago.

This is the lefts biggest wet dream and they are not missing the opportunity it to let their crisis go to waste.

As has been noted far and wide across the net there are various drugs, the cheapest and easiest being antimalarial meds, that will tame covid quickly, thus minimizing deaths.

Wake up folks it’s a lie.

      1. This is exactly my point. We are taking rediculously totalitarian and destructive steps without any measure of the extent of the threat or point of success. How do we know when to stop when we don’t know how widespread or serious the disease is.

I’m not asking for extrapolation or computer models with assumptions, I want a measurement.

Do governments, in their hysteria, have an end-point?

        1. Once this dies off, I’m expecting all the active gov’ts to pivot to using the methodology for “climate change”. Because it’s a proven game plan to green the economy. As Ward said above and I said on another thread…totally their wet dream.

    1. I tried to get chloroquine in lowermainland bc..told at pharmacy its prescription

      1. Tonic water contains quinine of which chloroquine is a synthetic analogue plus zinc supplement and gin for good measure, one every evening! Cheers!

      2. Chlorquine
Got any friends currently in Mexico..??
Available over the counter and cheap I hear from one of my buddies down there now.

      3. Buy it at Amazon a) if they have any left and b) if it is real.

Better, go to a private health travel company. Tell them you are going on a trip in 3 months time to Northern Brasil and need prevention for Yellow fever and Malaria. You’ll get a two or three bi-weekly course of drugs/injections ending at least 6 weeks before you go.

    2. *
      that’s not a knife… this is a knife…

“The WHO’s 2020 targets include reducing the number of people in Africa
dying from HIV-related causes to fewer than 500,000. Based on current
estimates, this provides an opportunity to prevent almost 300,000
      deaths per year.”

that’s half a million per year. we have 10 deaths in this country…
mostly octogenarians with pre-existing health issues.

      get a freakin’ grip, canuckistan!

  3. This will not stop the flu, but it will destroy the economy.

People need to decide which is worse: the possibility of contracting the Wuhan virus, and letting the economy and jobs resume in 2 weeks, or following Italy into a ruined economy, and living the rest of their lives in poverty, without stopping the virus? Since when were the leaders of Communust China, or of Europe, the source of anything but crazily bad and inhumane decisions regarding the welfare of the common people of their countries ?

    1. Quite so. Have you heard anyone articulate an end-point? Why copy the Chinese communists?

  4. Both approaches destroy the economy. One has a better shot of keeping people alive, with promise of a faster recovery. Choose.

    1. Kate – Every time government has been given absolute control of a society millions of people have faced premature deaths – for decade upon decade. I have not seen any statistics that indicate the coronavirus would produce deaths on anything like that scale.

Korea and Japan have both subdue the virus without destroying their economies. Neither followed the example of socialist Europe. What you are offering seems to be a false choice.

      1. “Every time government has been given absolute control of a society millions of people have faced premature deaths”

This statement is false on the face of it. It is simply not true.
That said, such a statement demands you give a proper definition of “absolute control of a society”.
I’ll tell you right now, few western societies have enough police or military to get anywhere near a reasonable definition of absolute control.

        1. Indeed. Quarantines are as old as human civilization for a reason — they have less to do with big government than they do the base instinct for survival.

          1. In older times, it was pretty obvious when a plague was genuine as it’s hard to disguise when people die.

Nowadays, though, one doesn’t really know what or who to believe any more. The MSM are hacks that have been bought and paid for by the left. The left wouldn’t say no to absolute control of everything in society and won’t stoop to manufacturing whatever rumour it needs in order to get the masses to comply.

The real danger of the current situation isn’t that people are going to die but that those who survive will wake up when it’s over and find that they’ve been stripped of all their liberties.

It isn’t a game of chess that the left is playing, but one of poker. People need to call a few bluffs.

        2. “ Oz “ – The Italian government ordered a lockdown, and now Italy is locked down. If that’s not control I’m not sure what is. Ditto China. You’re a bit behind the times with respect to authoritarian practice, and enforcement mechanisms. Do you really think control is only exerted by armed men?

Be nice Oz, particularly when you’re losing an argument; it’s a sign of class.

          1. @small c “conservative”: -Italy has the people complying with the government. Where’s the resistance?
Italy did it late, the people did it out of FEAR, but they didn’t do it because of government control.
You’re seeing authoritarian practice where it isn’t. Hey! look under your bed…BOO!

Authoritarian Control comes when people FEAR being SHOT by the government, not from catching the plague.
            Figure out the difference, Komrade.

“Do you really think control is only exerted by armed men?”

I guess you’ll tell me how the Italians are being controlled without guns now. Go ahead, enlighten me.

        3. The Liberals are buying peace in the streets, avoiding a breakdown of society by their largesse. This sudden, massive, economic lockdown and loss of work and income, will go on longer than 4 weeks, it may be 6 months. For many working cheque to cheque, this is a disaster.
If the Liberals didn’t do this, and I’ve got as many mixed thoughts on this as others, I believe we would see eventual riots, desperation, a breakdown in society. Expect the police to stop that? They wouldn’t stop small, illegal blockades……..
There was still a moral code in the Dirty Thirtys. There is no such code or respect today. Money is the opium of the masses.
And what lay down the road? Massive deficits, increased taxes, and maybe inflation, the price we pay for this.

    2. I’m sorry but if you destroy an economy, a great many MORE people ARE going to die. We might have avoided that…now I fear it’s too late.
BTW Italy’s economy was already in the tank. Remember PIIGS? Which one is Italy again?

        1. Don’t know how you come up with that characterization, Kate.

How do you separate out the malign affects of the Iranian police state? The default healthcare system in police states is utterly primitive care for the masses. Why should we expect the bankrupt Iranian police state to have one that is anything but dysfunctional. They can’t even keep the nomenklatura alive.

          1. The Iranian police state was so gosh darn arrogant that it couldn’t happen there.

          2. “They can’t even keep the nomenklatura alive.”

Yes. That would be an indication of how deadly the Wuhan Flu is. You’re stepping on your dick here.
The mass graves in Iran are the result of the “let it run” model/approach. No quarantine=mass graves.

          3. What? What does the Iranian health care system have to do with this? It thought it was “just the flu”?

        2. And how many are dead in Iran? From Al Jazeera Rouhani’s government said the virus has killed 1,135 people out of 17,161 cases of infection since it first emerged in the Islamic Republic a month ago. Again, how many people actually have the virus in Iran? Population ove 80 million. From IPAC Canada The death rate for influenza in Canada is 500 to 1500 cases per year. Population 35 million.

          1. Iran shot down Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 January 8 2020 and lied about it until forced to admit the truth because videos of the shoot down leaked out.
Nothing the Iranian government says can be reliably used to tabulate the Wuhan Flu. We cannot know what goes on there.

        3. Iran has been a stone-age shithole since 1979. Try again.

Venezuela can stand in as the “run the economy off the cliff to help people” model.

        4. Nope. South Korea? Japan? No offense, but this is mass hysteria, the likes of we’ve never experienced before.

        5. Kate Iran and Idiotaly are very different social models. They are too mucho to follow good and common sense sanitary practices. When I had my own business, 20% of my clientele was italian, 80% of my problem customers were Italian. They are by and large assholes! The Iranians were/are putting their religious stupidity on full display>

    3. We don’t have any numbers, Kate. How widespread is this virus? What is the end-point for these measures? How do we know when we have “won”?

  5. Ward – Remdesivir, is a broad spectrum anti-viral, that has been found to cure people of the Wuhan coronavirus. It may be much much better than the anti-malarial drugs.

    1. Fair enough. Have you seen any government action on any of it?

Same governments by the way that have been using the fraud of AGW to gain power and advance their agendas.

But now they are just doing what’s good for you.

Laughing all the way to the bank. Hard to keep track of all those billions.

      1. There are five US clinical trials on going presently with it. It has been granted a compassionate use waiver, since it has not been approved specifically for the Wuhan coronavirus. It was developed to combat Ebola.

A treatment effective against the Wuhan virus would be the left’s worst nightmare

        1. The quinine and HIV drugs Autralia and other countries are testing do not need years of safety tests as they have already been done years ago.

  6. I can’t help but feel this is way over the top… A few weeks ago the imbecile woman whatsherface Hajdu or some such name said that the Chinese Virus was nothing to worry about same with Turdhole and the chinese woman Dr. Tam… they all agreed with the “science” that suggested the Chinese Virus was not a big deal for Canada and “the risk remains low”… All the while the borders remained wide open to China and Iran and they still remain wide open today no matter what lies the Media are regurgitating and there is still no screening at the airports.
Its not that I don’t believe the Turdhole Gang to be a pack of completely incompetent shitheads, of course they are, I know they are, you know they are… but how can one go from, hey its no big deal one week to shutting down the country completely the next week… something doesn’t smell right… it seems way over the top.

    1. Because they wanted it here SEAN. That way they get to do what they are doing.

      Media fully on board

      1. I think I have to agree with you… Media seem positively gleeful in their presentations and not the least bit worried… no one seems to want to hold China to account, in fact its not even discussed… and no one is pointing the finger at the imbecile hiding under the bed with a meth pipe, Juthtin the Turdhole… Turdhole and the Liberal gang left the borders wide open all but assuring the spread of the China Virus in Canada… these are deliberate acts… one week closing the borders is “racist” so shut up… the next week the borders are supposedly closed but not really, wink, wink… Liberals have been lying from the start and they”ve been wrong from the start… the Media are aiding and abetting the Liberals by simply regurgitating those lies, one lie one day (‘ the risk is low”, closing the borders won’t help) to the opposite of that lie the next day (“everybody panic because we’re all going to die and we have to close the borders”) Media fully on board helping to feed the frenzy and doing so without skepticism and without context. Something is not right.

        1. “Media seem positively gleeful in their presentations and not the least bit worried”

They’re too stupid to truly grasp what’s going on. Really.

“no one seems to want to hold China to account”

          Here you go:
Rep. Jim Banks: ‘Demand Reparations’ from Communist China for Coronavirus
          https://www.breitbart.com/politics/2020/03/17/rep-jim-banks-demand-reparations-communist-china-coronavirus/

Some law makers are talking about holding China to account. It’s still early in the crisis.
We’ll see where things are when we get to the other side.

        2. Hi David,

    2. SEAN

And that my fellow SDA friends is exactly where my head is on this shit.
One minute the Graphic Designer Health Minister with help from our supposed National Health Expert is saying: What.? Me worry..??

To in a 2 week span or so, 30-70% of Canadians will be affected directly by this virus.
Excuse me.?? How does that happen.? Who told them to say that assinine BS.??

Like most. I trust SWEET FK all the MSM has to say: Right or Left for that matter. Except maybe Lilley, Spencer, Ezra and REX.

The Rest are beyond full of Leftist garbage as is our ENTIRE FRENCH CIVIL SERVICE, The Military, the RCMP, the PMO, the Privy council and every Liberal that ever lived. ALL Rotten to its very Core.

I find this to be a bit of OVERKILL and oh so convenient for those that wish for a global shutdown….far far too convenient.

PM Toilet bowl is likely right now contemplating how to utilize this Golden moment in time to Solidify CONTROL – I expect the War Measures Act any day now. its genetic with that POS family.

  7. No matter what, we need to realize that a certain proportion of our population will die. We cannot cower in our houses for months on end. Social distancing and no large gatherings will hopefully limit the deaths.
Our ancestors went through far worse at many times in history. don’t lose your heads over this. It’s time for us to pay the price our ancestors paid.
    Hopefully not

    1. Marx is a far more honest name for you, than Machiavelli. What you say is deception. Korea has had a total of 84 deaths from this virus and they were one of the early epicenters of the pandemic. You leftists are trying to stampede society with the usual mantra : You must do what we demand, or you shall all die.”

      1. Korea used aggressive tactics, checkpoints to limit travel early on and aggressive quarantines. They also decided to test everyone and actually deal with it. They very much used the power of the state to deal with it.

        1. So did Hong Kong and Singapore, they have really held the numbers down for longer with early firm travel bans. But, the numbers are starting to tick up there too, perhaps thinking they beat it, too early?
If this was a communist plot to take over the world, it was Xi’s plot.
As much as I despise Trudope and the FIberals, they aren’t smart enough.

    2. Frankly, I can’t believe how cowardly our society has become. like I said , our ancestors died likely deaths fighting wars and plagues for us to be here. And we are scared of a 1-3% death rate while hiding in our houses behind stacks of toilet paper? Wash your damn hands and stay as far away from other people as you can. Otherwise , live your life and go on about your business.

        1. Tell what to them, that we die when epidemics hit? Are you being deliberately daft? These are terrible times. I’m just trying to give my perspective on this. That’s what comment sections are for. And from my perspective I hope the Chinese Communists and all the globalists burn in hell for their part in starting this.

      1. Sorry to disturb your narrative with fact, but Korea has had 84 deaths due to the Wuhan virus. That was a 1% death rate. You are playing games with statistics when you use percents because you are eliminating the actual magnitude of the underlying number in question.

And Korea brought the infection under control without destroying their economy. What is happening in Europe will inevitably lead to the destruction of their economies without necessarily suppressing the virus. (You also neglect to mention the deplorable state of the Italian healthcare system due to years and years of non-investment due to the dictates of the European Union to control Italian government borrowing. They like Britain have a socialized medical system.)

        1. Still have no idea what you’re talking about? Are you saying you have the solution to all this?

          1. South Korea tamed it with large scale testing, and isolation of those testing positive. They have had no mass lockdowns

        2. “And Korea brought the infection under control without destroying their economy. ”

They have done it with massive quarantines and separation. Look up how they have done it before making up theories.

And because SK is in a constant state of readiness for war and that includes attacks preparation for biological weapon attacks they were probably better equipped to treat and contain than literately anyone else in the world.

Finally Korea is not filled with low IQ turd worlders that don’t believe in viruses and other things they can’t see.

          1. Colon – South Korea reported last Friday that they had more recoveries from coronavirus than new infections. They did this with large scale testing, there have been no lockdowns in South Korea. Why don’t you cite , say, three news reports about your claimed South Korea lockdowns.

As usual you have nothing to add, but apparently are content to spread misinformation.

          2. @ Small cock:

            About recoveries:

SK appears to have been waiting longer than others with declaring recoveries. That is why they are declaring a large number of recoveries now, those are the early infections that they finally declared recovered. Anywhere else they would have been declared recovered weeks ago. If your attention span allowed you to follow the numbers instead of headlines you would not need to have to have it explained to you now.

About lockdowns (your words not mine, I said “quarantine and separation” you imply I said lockdowns consciously distorting my statement because you’re a scumbag and a demagogue):

They were mass and voluntary. The typical response from Koreans was exactly opposite to yours. They did not need to be locked down because they understood the urgency of the situation and their reaction was rational. Yours isn’t. They did not consider updates about the spread of the virus and the suggested responses as fearmongering. They understood that it was their interest to behave rationally instead of hysterically manifest their discontent due to the need to make changes to their daily routines.

You do not want to behave like Koreans. You just want the inconvenience to go away.

            https://www.pri.org/stories/2020-03-03/south-korea-s-approach-containing-coronavirus-model-rest-world

      2. Totally agree – I am aghast at the misrepresentation of this virus and the glee which the corrupt media are exhibiting. There is still a greater chance of being killed by a bus swerving out of control and hopping a sidewalk where you are walking.

I am a “quiet Christian” and am mindful of the Old Testament stories. Whenever a society openly mocked God, there was always payback. And from what I have read in the past, the Left keeps saying that there are “too many people on the planet” and that the population should be reduced by 50% for Mother Earth. Perhaps this is the “great culling of the herd”. And at age 68, if I am one of the ones culled, then so be it.

        1. I’m a bit younger than you and, if I’m one of those to be “blessed” with being culled, I won’t go quietly.

    3. Sorry to break the news to you but 100% of the population will die, eventually. The most common cause of death for old people is pneumonia. Depressing but true.

  8. Considering that Foreign Policy was formerly owned by the company that included The Washington Post in its holdings, how much credence should that article be given?

  9. I guess I will stay here in Arizona until sanity returns. It’s not quite as crazy here, and the weather is warmer.

  10. In 5-6 weeks air drills and seeders will be running in Western Canada.
Truckers will have to deliver liquid and dry fert, along with Anhydrous Ammonia.
Oil will continue to get hauled even at $8 Cdn. Trains will run.
Grocery and staples will continue to be delivered.
Essential services workers will lace up their boots and LIFE WILL GO ON.
It is important that contact be limited until the herd can be vaccinated or the Anti malaria cure be synthesized as fast as possible.

    1. Thank you for this common sense information Quicksilver. My contracting business is still running fine as weather permits and people take extra precautions not to be in a position to spread the Chinese Flu. Keep your heads on people.

      1. I’m still going to work each day. The government isn’t and my commute is a breeze 🙂

      2. Yes. Use your head. Make sure your co-workers do too. Minimal contact with people offsite.
One of mine didnt. Hes a social butterfly and is now at home with the flu… 2 more have/are coming down with the flu, not likely Wuhan Kung Flu.
My ass is dragging because I’m burning the candle at both ends

  11. Isn’t that ‘non-communist’ central planning wonderful?
    Jeremiah 17:5-6 KJV
    (5)  Thus saith the LORD; Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm, and whose heart departeth from the LORD.
    (6)  For he shall be like the heath in the desert, and shall not see when good cometh; but shall inhabit the parched places in the wilderness, in a salt land and not inhabited.
See the curses in Deuteronomy 28.

    Excerpt;
Probably the “Cornavirus Event” will go down in history as one of humanity’s greatest social engineering events. It will mark the beginning of a new era in the sense that life after the coronavirus and before the coronavirus will be surprisingly different.

Why “social engineering”? Because we are entering the era of biopolitics and bioeconomics that bring a striking advantage in the forms of social control – the prefix “bio” conveys an “apolitical” and “neutrality” image to the distinct public, naturalizing political economy: events of supposed nature biopathology can confer apparent “scientificity”. And in that way, create social consensus.

    https://www.pbs.org/newshour/politics/trump-says-it-will-be-hard-to-unify-country-without-a-major-event

“I would love to be able to bring back our country into a great form of unity,” Trump said. “Without a major event where people pull together, that’s hard to do. But I would like to do it without that major event because usually that major event is not a good thing.”

  12. 30 months ago wife & I left our jobs, sold everything, paid debts, etc to move very rural, isolated on a lake in 1,000 sq mi wilderness. Our nearest neighbor is 2 kms away while the nearest general store w all food & supplies is 26 kms away. We are 85% self sufficient, have all tools and toys & well water is 0.00 PPM.
Grouse, pickerel & moose are aplenty, homemade wine is good and my 800′ cul-de-sac driveway onto the lake makes a great ambush area.
We told friends to turn their backs on the stress of urban living and move rural as well.
    They laughed at us.
Last week we heard of them via FB. Now they think we made a great decision to go isolated ( we are not off grid but have a 5000W gas genny) and she asked my wife if they could visit “for a while”.

    We said not a chance.

We are laughing hard in self isolation from stupid people for 30 months now.

    1. You can stay there as long as the ‘non-communist’ central planning let’s you…

      1. I legally own the 10 acres lakefront home 4 bed, 2 bath & triple car garage. Surveyed too. 300′ shoreline.
As a matter of fact my $1100 muni tax bill is being paid to county next week.
Crown land surrounds… Love my granite countertops kitchen too.

        Urbanites are terribly vulnerable.

    2. Meanwhile, Parisian elites used the 48-hour warning of the French lockdown not to prepare to hole up in their apartments but to flee to their country cottages, where they plan to spend the summer far from the food riots. The first thing they did was to clean out the village grocery stores.

The locals hate their guts—and not just because supply chains to rural areas will be the first to break down.

Alas, gun ownership is heavily regulated in France. God help the Annex or Westmount or Rockcliffe Park fathead who plans to spend the lockdown in cottage country.

  13. I’m definitely starting to reverse my thinking on some of this. Without timelines I become extremely suspicious.
Plus Liberals are corrupt and the group in Ottawa particularly inept and untrustworthy.
As much as I take the virus seriously and have since Wuhan was locked down, being told to stay home is bullshit. Killing the economy is bullshit too. The fuckers in BC are going to suspend the need for warrants today.
We should be and are (sort of) quarantining the aged… BUT, I have no faith in my mother’s retirement home and their competence.
Its a killer flu and young healthy people can get pooched as well but…
I’ll be at work for 7am EDT.

    1. Resist, resist, resist. Ruining the economy and shutting everything down is just making everything worse. I think most people understand and accept the risk. Those that don’t can stay indoors, but governments should not be ordering this.

    2. That’s the issue isn’t it Buddy. No One has proffered a timeline as to when much of Life can return to normal. And to be honest, I don’t think we will see one…much too great of an opportunity to establish Full Control.

Its in PM Toilet bowls repertoire…it’s also GENETIC.
$ 50.00 of my pension says that POS will in fact enact the whatever the WarMeasuresAct turned into before this shit is over – He simply CANNOT RESIST.

  14. Remember that the Canadian banks still have their bail-in measures in their back pocket which most Canadians don’t even know exist. So if there is a run on the bank, the banks can take from your available savings to back their own interests as long as they provide you with bank stock of equal value. That is truly a disaster in the making…

  15. If you live alone, have no family members or close friends who require your special attention, and have no alternative living space, you have no decision to make.

That describes me. I’d add that I love both the town in which I live and my immediate neighbors. I am a very lucky man indeed, and about all that I can do is wish all of you the best of luck.

  16. Any sane person would not go along with this. It is excessive government control and it is insane. You quarantine small groups of people or individuals. You do not quarantine a whole population. No one should accept this. Time for demonstrations such as yellow jackets in France. Once everyone gets out there demonstrating, it will be too late to prevent the spread of the virus and we can all get back to normal.

  17. I am becoming increasingly disappointed and disillusioned by comments I read from supposed conservatives on this issue. Not just here but on other conservative leaning blogs. Lots of questioning the authenticity of the virus, ranting about the government becoming tyrannical, or the media overhyping it, bemoaning the economic damage, claiming we’re overreacting, etc.

There are times and places and topics for those kind of thoughts. THIS ISN’T ONE OF THEM. This virus DOES NOT CARE about your political beliefs. It doesn’t care about any of us. It’ll spread, and spread, and spread. That’s what it does. That’s ALL it does. Italy, three weeks ago, had about the number of cases we do now. They probably had their share of fools laughing it off and thinking it was no big deal. Look at them now. 35,000+ infected, nearly 3,000 dead and still rising.

Kate’s right. This has become an ugly choice of “economic disaster plus public health disaster” vs “economic disaster minus public health disaster.” There’s no third option here. No “LOL it’s all a commie Chinese plot and media sensationalism, forget about it.” Conservatives see the world as it is, not how we would wish it to be. We don’t duck hard choices and rant about foolishness during a pandemic. We get our shit together and do what needs to be done.

The political fallout of this pandemic will be entirely unpredictable. Let’s not feed into any kind of “Conservatives are a bunch of crazies!” narrative by engaging in such utter nonsense. Or Conservatives will find themselves banished to opposition for a generation. And they’ll DESERVE IT.

    1. Conservatives are caught in their Mueller Report moment and don’t know it.

It’s a “choice between the economy and the virus” — until the guy on the ventilator is your employer.

      1. No, they’re caught in their global warming hysteria moment.

None of the data people are making their policy decisions on are even close to accurate. They’re based on wild-ass guesses and computer models that are known to overestimate infection rates (boy, does that sound familiar). Italy is not comparable to the rest of the Western world – there was an enclave of over 100,000 Han Chinese in the north traveling regularly to Wuhan province during the Chinese outbreak. Europe in general has a lower standard of living, an older population, and much higher population density than the developed West. The overwhelming majority of the fatalities in Italy are among people with pre-existing severe health conditions, which is exactly what you get when the flu runs through every year.

Taking reasonable precautions just like every flu season is sensible. Locking down the world’s economy is not.

    2. Keep your eye on the facts, I.M. The Wuhan coronavirus isn’t following your script in either Germany or South Korea. Rational minds should be examining what is different about those two countries situations not ranting about conservatives as the new class enemy.

It’s remarkable how many so-called conservatives follow the Pied Pipers of the left on this issue, right down to ignoring facts that are inconvenient to their narrative.

What will you do when mass shortages become a common feature due to the lockdowns?

      1. South Korea did an exemplary job of locking things down to stop the spread. Maybe only Taiwan did it better.

        And Germany?

        https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/germany/

That graph is on the same trajectory as everyone else’s. March 7 = 800 cases. Today = 14,000 plus. Don’t be daft. Maybe you and others shouldn’t be so ignorant of the facts yourselves. Don’t let your ideological distrust / disgust of everything China & Trudeau blind you to what’s happening here, and what has the POTENTIAL to happen. You’ll end up shooting all of us in the foot. Or worse.

    3. I.M., I fully agree with you. One fundamental duty of government is to protect the public’s safety. We can make a long list of policies the Liberal government has undertaken to undermine the safety of the public, everything from allowing the Roxham Road crossings, to ultra-liberal judges, to tolerating armed street gangs in the big cities, among other idiot policies. It is not big-government advocacy to cracking down on these.

I grew up in a Republican, all-white district north of Pittsburgh. Conservatism was dominant where I went to school. As a little boy in the early 1950s there, we kids were some of the first children in the U.S. to get the polio vaccine, then developed at the University of Pittsburgh. Everybody got the vaccine at our school, as all vaccines. There was no question about that. The school kept careful records.

Terrace Corcoran of that he Financial Post, as a libertarian argued for no border controls, for immigration, trade or crime control. Sorry, conservatism is not ultra-libertarianism. Conservatives advocate for protecting the public. Leftists do not.

  18. I agree that reasonableness and rationality should prevail specifically from those of us that believe in conserving that which we value. But part of the discussion should and can be had about the “minus the public health disaster” part. For many of us this is the part that remains unclear, other than flattening the curve what is the end point and how do we get there? And even in flattening the curve it isn’t improbable that this basically means distributing the potential deaths over a longer time line, which may be a good thing. To regain a level of societal functionality it seems we’ll need to develop wide spread immunity either by vaccine or the natural path. Can we actually hunker down until a vaccine is developed, manufactured and distributed? Who provides the goods and the infrastructure to sustain us all? And what cost will that entail? Many many unknowns, probably too many to be dogmatic about any position at this point and yet we must discuss and choose.

  19. I used to go to the real Harry Chen PhD Twitter account, before it was taken down by Chinese “influenced” anti Harry Chen Twitter owners. Very informative site. The parody account is still up. Buildings full of probably “low social score” Chinese were boarded up, barricaded in these buildings with no way of knowing if people were COVID-19 positive, or not. Seen plenty of collapsed (whatever medical shape initially) people in the streets, malls, stores etc but single bodies and not heaps of them at any one time, except where they collect them…..hospitals. Supposed to just take the Chicom’s word for it all. Never let a crisis go to waste. What’s a few broken eggs it the Great Satan can be emasculated?
Groper and by inference the LPOC “admire China’s basic dictatorship” he said, before he unsaid it a couple of years later. Believe the Chinks? Believe Groper today? Groper still hasn’t closed that Kaybec border crossing to “migrants” and by all indications wasn’t prepared to restrict entry, check or impede disease vectors from China or Iran and probably still isn’t. WTF is a “migrant”?
If the situation is so dire that normal society has to be shut in, halted and screwed over…why are “walk ins” allowed?
I taxied to the cancer centre late in the day for my treatment yesterday, even called in Friday to see if we were still on deck. C’amon daown. Doing a normal day’s business…seeya in two weeks. Wash your hands. Oh, they took my temperature and asked a bunch of questions at the front desk of my unit. That’s all.
    Seen any bodies laying around?

    1. Yes. A real double standard here. Draconian measures in some situations, and looking the other way if the political implications are not to our taste. Testing and requesting that people wear masks in public, additional precautions for senior care homes and that should be it. Beyond that, I don’t think they are preventing or slowing anything. Conservatives seek balance and common sense. That is not what we are getting. South Korea seems to be fending this off with large scale testing. They are not ruining their economy. In Canada, we are all over the map.

  20. -I honestly feel it is a bad cold that can lead to severe chest infections but only in a small number of cases! This not unlike the normal flu season! Our species way to battle anything like this is to get it —-our body wins the fight against the Virus and mankind’s antibodies pool increases!
-Alot of us have it now and aren’t aware because our immune system is winning the battle! I feel the success rate will be in the high 90 percentile !!
_ Governments are not very successful with anything especially Justin’s ship of FOOLS!
    – I predict by the end of the first week of April we’ll see a significant turn around!!

  21. Concern trolling, it is all I see. Gab, Quillette, here, …

    What are the actual facts?

Most cases are mild; a recent Chinese study (grain of salt) puts it at 80% of cases are mild.
About 14% (same study) develop severe symptoms; difficulty breathing, etc..
About 5% go critical (same study); organ failure, require intensive care, etc..
Seems like they currently figure about 3% of the people who develop symptoms, will actually die.

So, this is nowhere near as big a problem as smallpox, or bubonic plague were. Malaria actually remains the number one killer of humans in history.

The problems are actually all of your own creation. You wanted government to run healthcare? This is what it looks like; systemic collapse and routine shortages. You wanted everything to be cheaper? That is what sent manufacturing to China; IT WAS YOU. You voted with your own dollars every time you went to the store. You are the one who never looked at the label, you just always bought the cheapest tool/gadget/whatever. You didn’t care then that it was all coming from China. Your concern trolling now, is laughable.

    Smallpox: 30% mortality rate.
Bubonic plague: 10% with treatment, 30% to 90% untreated.
    Spanish flu pandemic: about 3%.

The Spanish flu pandemic appears to be the pattern here; it wasn’t actually the flu that killed most of the victims. It was malnutrition, overcrowded medical camps and hospitals, and poor hygiene promoting bacterial superinfection. Spanish flu was generally no more virulent than the flu strains that came before or after.

This “pandemic panic of 2020” also looks a lot like Fukushima Daichi nuclear disaster. It was not the reactor breach that killed anyone; it was the panicked reaction to it, and the actions said panic promoted, that actually caused all the deaths.

They had a run on toilet paper too, as I recall… The earthquake and tsunami in Japan, prompted Germany to close their nuclear plants on the planet Mars too…

It’s true; they never let a crisis, real or imagined, go to waste.

    1. “You wanted everything to be cheaper? That is what sent manufacturing to China; IT WAS YOU. You voted with your own dollars every time you went to the store”
Probably harsh sounding this March 19th 2020 AM but all too true. OT but try to find sliced peaches that haven’t been packed in China or fish products etc etc.
You the consumer wanted everything for the cheapest price; you got it and things are about to get really cheap for awhile until the exploding government debt kicks in the inflation..

      1. “You wanted everything to be cheaper? That is what sent manufacturing to China; IT WAS YOU.”

No. It was the Unions and feminism which drove inflation. When I was a kid things were made here.
They were quality and affordable. Unions drove up the price of everything and feminists bloated the workforce making the two paycheck family a permanent fixture in society where one paycheck used to be enough.

        1. Ooz, kinda rich coming from some one who wanted the gubberment to pick up and git rid of a bloody couch !!!

Kevin is correct, it is people like you, real conservative are about accountability, even their own.

  22. Are Chinese bio weapon labs spreading diseases around the world? Breitbart reports that thousands of nomads in Africa are dying, bleeding through their mouths and noses. This after Chinese companies were surveying for oil etc.

  23. I don’t know about small “c” but I feel like I’m suffering from digital social distancing: the lemmings are all off in search of a cliff and just a few of us are left, widely scattered, wondering what happened ? It’s lonely out here.
How did we go from “Let’s Roll” to let’s hide ?

    1. I agree. Notice the left has managed to close all churches in the name of public health? All their dreams are coming true. And they are surely delighted at how they have manipulated otherwise sensible people into becoming foot soldiers of the revolution.

It’s not clear you are in the minority, on this.

  24. To recap; it is simply math at this point.

SARS: 10% mortality. Covid-19 is only 3% (current estimates).

Therefore, it is clear that there is an over reaction here.

Fukushima Daichi; they closed nuclear power down in Germany, as a result of an earthquake in Japan. Clearly, not a rational reaction. Therefore, any stated goal of public safety/whatever was a lie.

All that remains to be seen now, is what is their actual goal in going to this level of panicked flailing about? Because clearly, it is not public safety, or anything else they are reading from their teleprompters. Seriously, the people pushing abortion so hard and completely, you think they actually care if you stay alive?

  25. What is this about?
This flight, China Eastern MU597 arrived from Shanghai into Vancouver yesterday, and is apparently still available for future bookings.
Who is on board and why has it not been stopped?
Checked the China Eastern website and was able to book the same flight this Saturday.
Are our borders closed or not?
    https://www.flightstats.com/v2/flight-tracker/MU/597

    1. No they are not. Trudeau will allow permanent residents – and their family’s- into Canada.

      Define “family”.

As such there is no quarantine

There is however a shut down economy and large Liberal slush fund.

    2. “Are our borders closed or not ? ” The answer is NO they are not… the Turdhole Government and their Media are lying, the border remains wide open, especially to China. The constant lying from the Turdhole Government and their Media should have everyone scratching their heads and asking the question, why are they willfully lying…?

  26. There are ucking fidiots who got on the poxed cruise ship now off Marseille, France while the shit show was going on on the cruise ship in Japan. No need to asked how stupid can people be. We have the answer.

  27. The Diamond Princess cruise ship represented the worst-case scenario in terms of disease spread, as the close confines of the ship offered optimal conditions for the virus to be passed among those aboard. The population density aboard the ship was the equivalent of trying to cram the whole Israeli population into an area 30 kilometers square. In addition, the ship had a central air conditioning and heating system, and communal dining rooms.

“Those are extremely comfortable conditions for the virus and still, only 20% were infected. It is a lot, but pretty similar to the infection rate of the common flu,”
    https://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2020/03/an-optimistic-take-on-covid-19.php

The ship was quarantined in February 2020 for nearly a month with about 3,700 passengers and crew on board; 712 people were infected in the incident, and seven died.
    https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/

A few passengers are still sick but the mortality rate for those infected is so far less than 1%.
The mortality rate for the entire population of the ship is .19%

The death rate in some countries such as Italy is troubling (not a people who keep a social distance naturally, elderly population, high smoking rate, many guest workers in country from China) but there is cause for optimism in this unintended cruise ship “experiment”.

The emergency duress code ! “Conservatives are caught” – she’s been kidnapped.

John has a long mustache John has a long mustache John has a long mustache

    Burn your modems

  29. I was joking about cranking the panic up to 11,cause the northern migration of all the waterfowl begins about now.
These viruses are carried and cross bred between species,so even remote areas may be infected without human help.
    Avian Flu.
However with public hysteria running at “End times” level,we cannot sustain this hysteria for much longer.

    What do we know?
That near 90% of cases go undetected, with those infected suffering little or no symptoms?
That 10% manifest fever ,coughing and congestion?
And 3 to 5% of those die.
If those numbers are close to true, this flu has been spreading rapidly well before the Wuhan Crisis.
And the mortality rate is 1/10 of that currently estimated.

I find myself siding with the “Spring Break” partiers.
    Meh.
Now if it is a full scale pandemic, where civilization breaks, our response is going to become gallows humour very rapidly .
Because Dread is as dangerous as hysteria.

Life is going to kill us all.
How it does that is the only uncertainty.

Hell to have made it this far, with the idiocy I used to practise, every day is a extra blessing.
To base our existence around fear of contamination, is to plan a joyless life.
Must we fear life so much, that we would plan to live it as miserably as possible?

Google George Carlin on the immune system.(Germs)
George would be killing himself laughing at the current terror.
And it is the terror that is being promoted by our authorities..Why?

President Trump sounds far more rational than the hysterics.
As Justine addresses the nation, our dollar declines.
If he babbles on long enough it will be in negative territory.

  30. Absence of evidence is not evidence of absence and when uncertainty about the magnitude of the risk abounds precaution is required. I expect technocrats (like our public health authorities) and other various overeducated and unintelligent people to struggle with this concept but it is strange to me that conservatives, who are by nature risk-adverse people, seem willing to throw caution to the wind so that no sacrifice is required.
It would obviously be ideal if we had all the testing in place ready to go, all the health care providers and services and equipment we needed and if everyone who had symptoms would stay home and everyone else had proper PPE. That’s where we need to get to but we aren’t there yet, so, we need to make some major sacrifices to ensure that this pandemic does not overwhelm our public health systems and result in even more death and misery.

    1. People are willing to take precautions and make sacrifices, but there needs to be a limit. The shutting down of everything was ill advised and needs to be lifted soon. Personally, when you are dealing with a virus, I don’t believe the current precautions will make a significant difference. The three things that could be helpful I believe are — covering your mouth in public areas, screening as much as feasible, extra care, and maybe strict quarantene in nursing homes. This is a virus. It will run its course. Draconian government measures will not stop the virus and will create major problems elsewhere.

      1. An additional point: I think it is largely your own immune system that is the most significant factor in combating the virus. Once the virus is out there, it will run its course, and most people will be exposed at some point. Unfortunately, I think we are weakening old folks by not letting them leave their rooms to socialize even in their own homes. I am going for a walk. I have heard sunlight and Vitamin C are both very helpful in combating a virus.

        1. Yes, the virus will run its course. Unfortunately, our health care system does not have the capacity or the resources to deal with the infected and dying from this virus along with every other virus out there right now, plus all of the other services it must offer. Hospitals are already cancelling all elective procedures because they need all of their resources simply to deal with the pandemic at hand.
The measures being taken will absolutely slow the spread of the virus and save lives, however, that is only one war that is being fought. The other war is to save our medical system and the public health authorities from catastrophic failure. It is really important people understand how unprepared and under-resourced our health system is for disasters like this.

          1. *
“health care system does not have the capacity
or the resources to deal with the infected and dying
            from this virus”

which comprises ten people so far… mostly sick
and elderly who could just as easily have gone
            down with regular generic flu.

this is worth trashing the economy?

and you’re trusting the media on this one? all they
want is more clicks… more eyeballs… and you
            don’t get that by saying… “yup… we’re good!”

            *

          2. I understand the theory behind the measures, but I would like to see evidence that these measures will “abdolutely slow the virus”. How do we know that? If you live anywhere in a big city, I believe you will inevitably be exposed to the virus and likely many have been exposed already.

  31. News:
Dentists in Alberta are now taking appointments from patients that require “emergency dental care only”. I would imagine that this situation is everywhere now. This is part of an email I Just got from my dentist advising that my appointment is hereby canceled.

“We are writing to let you know that EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY AND UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE the Alberta Dental Association and College has issued an IMMEDIATE AND MANDATORY SUSPENSION OF ALL NON-EMERGENCY DENTAL TREATMENT AND SERVICES. If you had an appointment booked with us in the next few weeks, please consider it cancelled.”

    1. The result of infected person or persons going to a huge dental conference in Vancouver Mar 5-7 and sharing the joy, wittingly or not, and not being caught until other people had brought it to SK, AB, and MB.

      1. Thanks for the info!

They knew about the virus for weeks and didn’t cancel? Now that’s dumb, eh?

  32. At the office now.
Was on a work site (building excavation) for the morning. Fun watching the mats lift when the charges go off.
Still conflicted. The illness is serious but a complete shutdown without a timeline seems like madness.
    The roads are not lively.
    Two more cents:
Seems obvious, but if you buy gas, do your car a favour and buy the supreme as its cheaper than the ethanol laced crap was a week ago.
As plain and bold as ever – who’s more important to you right now: food farmers, producers, factories and truck drivers and stock clerks or fucking teachers and professors? They can go to hell and eat fiery shit.

  33. Italy is the size of Florida. All of China was not Wuhan. The whole USA is not where Italy was 10 days ago. New York mid Atlantic seaboard is in trouble. They could be Italy or Germany or Wuhan. West coast seems to be doing better so far. How fast we stop travel and social distance could make a big difference for other parts of the country. That said we are tracking the Los Alamos simulation.

  34. And just who is going to pay for this emergency package? Just wonderful that it will be you and me, my children, my grandchildren.

    1. “Just wonderful that it will be you and me”

You can be damned sure it ain’t any Quebecer, specially not one named Max!, so you can forget that “you” part, Lone Ranger.
Albertans pay the bills, Quebecers spend the money.

    2. Yes, Lone Ranger, that jack wagon Max Bernier was, until he lost his parliamentary seat in October, a NON-taxpayer.
You see Lone Ranger, Canadian Members of Parliament do not pay taxes. ZERO.
I seriously doubt this doofus has paid a penny of taxes in the last Decade, but Boy Howdy can Max spend or what? Hey?

  35. Kevin

That issue with Fukijima and the German Reaction to it was likely the most ASSININE decision I have ever seen in my Entire life. But y’all gotta remember, the Germans were likely the most VIRULENT Anti Nuclear proponents that ever lived.

I hope they are enjoying their Sky hi electricity costs (Wind-Solar) and the added billions of tons of Sulphur Dioxide their NEW COAL plants produce.

Talk about Morons…well, they did vote in Merkel – about as bright as 2/3 of Canadians as well.

  36. I had to pick up a package from the postal outlet at Southgate Shopping Centre here in Edmonton, so I took the opportunity to buy some groceries while I was in the neighbourhood. I found just about everything I needed at the Safeway, though it was a bit low on skim milk–no 2 litre cartons available.

Going through the shopping centre afterward it was clear that the place was dead. Most of the stores are either closed or open with restricted hours. It serves as a reminder of how essential certain goods and services are: Apple, jewelry, women’s wear…. just about all of those outlets idled.

At least I was able to pick up some zinc tablets at the drugstore.

  37. Watched an “expert” on TV. He said that when quarantined, make sure you get outside for walks and fresh air, and talk freely with people you meet so you don’t get lonely.

  38. https://blog.nomorefakenews.com/2020/03/17/corona-bologna-the-truth-begins-to-leak-out/

“There may be only two people who died from coronavirus in Italy, who did not present other pathologies. This is what emerges from the medical records examined so far by the Higher Institute of Health, according to what was reported by the President of the Institute [Istituto Superiore di Sanità (ISS), Italian National Institute of Health], Silvio Brusaferro, during the press conference held today at the Civil Protection in Rome. ‘Positive deceased patients have an average of over 80 years – 80.3 to be exact…The majority of these people are carriers of chronic diseases. Only two people were not presently carriers of [other non-COV] diseases’, but even in these two cases, the examination of the files is not concluded and therefore, causes of death different from Covid-19 could emerge. The president of the ISS has specified that ‘little more than a hundred medical records’ have so far come from hospitals throughout Italy.”

    1. Yeah …

Send it to the boneheads at the CHQR 770 Calgary in the morning, though there are likely many, many other stations and papers, they like the big numbers.
I can’t seem to find a way to do it.
This morning they went completely ballistic with how many died of the Wuhan flu in Italy.
