* I’d also like to highlight the meltdown of councilor Carol Anne Meehan at the 1:23:13 mark. It is fun to watch her body language and facial expressions throughout the meeting but I know that not everybody has the time to watch the whole thing.

I’m only about 20 minutes in and its both fascinating and hilarious. The police chief has a very different demeanor than he did yesterday. He doesn’t have the manpower to deal with this and he knows it. City council on the other hand seems to remain clueless no matter how many times he explains this.

-The people they do have are overworked and burned out. I’d include the chief in that as well. How many more days before we see cops walk off the job?

-Intelligence officer didn’t think that many would stay. What kind of intelligence gathering outfit doesn’t listen to what the protestors say they are going to do?

-Doesn’t sound like they’ve been able to come up with much more than a few minor things in the way of charges and arrests.

-There is no policing answer, there is no legal answer.

– City councilors calling the truckers “terrorists” is not going to be helpful. Call it a hunch.

-They’ve got another 257 RCMP coming in to help. Doesn’t sound like anywhere close to enough given what the chief has said.

-In the entire two hour ordeal not a single person was willing or able to state the underlying issues of why the protest is happening. Looks like eight days of honking was not enough.

-God help anyone that has to do these zoom calls on a regular basis. They’re going to have all sorts of mental issues at some point.

          As for the PBS presentation I mentioned (which was later broadcast on what was then called CBC Stereo), the production was by Patrice Chereau and conducted by Pierre Boulez. I do remember that Gwyneth Jones was Brünnhilde and the cast included not just Siegfried Jerusalem but Peter Hoffman, though I can’t remember which characters they played.

          The production was controversial in that it was in 19th century dress, which didn’t sit well with some fans. The next one, about 5 years later, which I heard on the CBC, was loudly booed.

          There were two Met Ring productions in the last 30 years, and PBS showed them both. The first one was more traditional, though I can’t recall who was in the cast. The second was from about 10 or so years ago and was directed by Robert Lepage. The machine that was used to change sets malfunctioned during the first performance but, eventually, the bugs were worked out.

          As for live performances, yes, the Met started them again last fall, though there wasn’t any mention, at least in the Saturday afternoon broadcasts that I’ve heard on SiriusXM, of what the “proper” audience protocol was.

            The production I saw (and thought you referred to) was around 1988/9? The conductor and music director was the now unmentionable kiddie diddler, James Levine. The production was combination primeval and futuristic. Haven’t re-watched it so just going from memory. The cast was as I mentioned. Everyone loved Salminen as Hagen.

            Now that I think of it, you’ve given me a big fat idea: a new production of The Ring set in Trudeauland. Trudeau The Elder is Alberich, Hagen is Junior, Gunter is Kyle Kemper, Mime could be Chretien, Brunhilde would be Trudeau’s love child with Debra Coyne…you see? It could work!

      1. I submitted a hate crime report to the online Ottawa police reporting system. It was in relation to a speech given in Sept. by the ex-drama teacher, calling me anti-science, misogynist and racist. They responded that it was rejected as it did not meet their reporting criteria…the note was:

        Please file this report with your local police service.”
        I thought that a crime was to be reported in jurisdiction where it occurred..am I wrong?

      With the Toronto protests happening, that must have kept many GTA police at home and not travelling to Ottawa.
      Same with the Quebec City protests.

      Where are the 257 RCMP coming from? There are other issue protests happening in BC. You’d think the AB protests are drawing in RCMP from across AB and SK. MB has its protests. Is it RCMP from the Maritimes that are free? They have to come from somewhere.
      The more protests everywhere provides relief to the Ottawa protest.

      Weather being cold is likely good too. Keeps pressure on police resources.

If I was part of a small community in Canada that has to directly pay the RCMP for local policing, I would not be too happy to see our employees headed to Ottawa to be part of the head busting brigade. They better stay home and watch the hen house or we will determine that their services are no longer required.

    Thank you. Yes, they are incredibly painful. I had one the other day with 3 folks from a warehouse in Georgia. The person leading the call was masked and yet you’re not required to be if you’re at your desk. Needless to say, my opinion of her mental state has now taken a nosedive. Right up there with the loons driving alone in their cars all masked up.

  31. It is time for the truckers to call no confidence on the government and demand a new election. They are the sole group who have moral authority in the country, all other political institutions, including the Cons, have forfeited their moral authority.

    They should call for the support of all religious leaders in Canada, and across the world, as this is a campaign for basic human rights. They should call on the rank and file Ottawa Police to call in sick if they are issued any orders that suppress liberty.

    The truckers have it within their power to begin the forced moral reformation of Canada’s ruling class, now. They need to seize the moment. The government, to win, merely needs to outcamp the truckers.

      2. A non-confidence vote will go nowhere. We know the Lieberals and Dippers will not vote in favour. Unless the Bloc sees an opportunity to increase its number, it won’t vote in favour either.
        For now, the spongy spined CPC needs to put pressure on TurdHole to resign. That has a better chance at success than a non-confidence vote.

  49. Fantastic site I’ve found here, the level of stupidity displayed by this group of public officials is astounding. I wish them the absolute worst. Yes the ball is rolling with no sign of stopping now, I wish I could travel to Canada to see it firsthand.
    Media must be the next target , dismantle the lying propaganda conglomerates.

  50. I lived in downtown Ottawa for 5 years almost 30 years ago. Great place and there are great benefits in being a capital city. But there are also some disadvantages, one being a presence of aggrieved folk. You have to accept that protests do occur. There were plenty, but most of limited duration.

    It’s a very Liberal city. Enjoy your lot, Ottawa.
