The Department of Finance in a confidential Access To Information memo says energy consumers in provinces without a legislated carbon tax will pay at least $600 million in higher fuel costs this year. Federal legislation mandating the tax nationwide is due this spring: “The impact on consumers and businesses will depend.”

I’ve posted before: natural gas prices (price of gas) went UP in Alberta, Jan 1st…to now 79% of the cost of gas. It was 52% before. Gas prices are in the dumps right now, but when that price of gas rises, as it inevitably will, that number on the “carbon levy” will become ugly.
I don’t know anywhere in the world that any government that did not run on a policy of jacking up the cost of heating your home in a country that endures winter 6 months of the year, ever got elected. Dijon’s “Green Shift” was soundly thrashed at the polls, Notley never ran on it, but hey, zappo-zingo your heating costs were sent to the moon at the wave of an Legislative wand. Notley even laughed about it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA. Yeah, vewry funny.
Who set the “levy” & on what basis? Tseporah Berman, from BC? Brian Topp from Ontario? Neither of these commie crooks resided in Alberta & disappeared back to where they came as soon as their highly paid “import job” was done, advising Ministers of the Notley Government on the evils of too many people & evil carbon fuels. People like that stood on railway platforms in times past weeding out the weak & infirm & useless….links, rechts. They see people as dead people, like Maurice Strong. Too many of us. Cull the herd.
Just like that minimum wage hike, who picked that carbon levy number out of their ass? Some focus group of civil servants, with an axe to grind? Communists did. Just look at the nonsense coming out of Alberta.
According to the Alberta government they will raise $1.8 billion per year over the next 3 years. There are roughly 1 million families in Alberta. This works out to $1,800 per family.
According to the Alberta government the average cost of the carbon tax will be $150 per family.
The government will also issue rebates to some families to offset the cost of the new tax. The Alberta government claims that 60% of all families will receive a full rebate.
How is any of this even possible? If only 40% of all households are paying the $1.8 billion in revenue, this works out to $4,500 per family.
Or, to express it another way, if 40% of Albertan families (400,000) pay $150 each on average and the government expects $1.8 billion, then the government is expecting to raise only $60 million from families and the other $1.74 billion from business.

Provinces being forced by the federal Liberal government to charge a carbon tax should actually name it the Trudeau Carbon Tax then rebate the entire amount back under the Sask revenue neutral rebate plan.
On that note, is Sask. still planning a court challenge to stop the Liberals from carbon taxing provincially owned crown corps like saskenergy and saskpower? If the Liberals win then can future governments start taxing Quebec Hydro and/or include it in equalization payment calculations?

“Canada is one of the world’s coldest countries”. The lack of recognition of this fact is one of my pet peeves. It’s incredibly easy to ration your fuel, electricity and heat when you live in a mild climate or near the equator. In places where the sun goes at 3 or 4 pm in the winter and the temps range between -35C to 35C, you don’t have as many options to restrict energy consumption.
Energy consumption expectations need to be ‘normalized’ to fairly assess the per capita numbers. Days that fall 5 degrees outside of the 20C to 24C normal comfort zone (NCZ) get extra energy allowances, days 10 degrees outside NCZ get bigger allowances, days more than 20 degrees outside of NCZ get even more, etc. Or go by gardening zones. Something that fairly reflects differing climates. It’s stupid that extreme climates like in Canada should be expected to have anywhere near the same personal energy consumption needs as California or southern Germany.
Second pet peeve is not bragging that Canada has one of the cleanest electricity systems in the world and immense areas of uninhabited wilderness. Canada is not a carbon villian, even our fossil fuel production is clean and conflict free compared to the majority of energy exporting countries.

We have been betrayed by our leaders. This whole fiasco just sickens me. None of the people implementing the “green” agenda care anything about people. They care about power and part of that is pleasing the special interest groups that support them. Canadians won’t wake up until they literally are freezing in the dark. The unthinking media is partially to blame. Why have they failed to hold the greenies, warmists and exploitive, deceiving politicians to account?

I live in Ontario, about an hour west of Toronto. I work regularly with people from our Toronto office. I could best describe most of them as ‘flighty’, an old fashioned term but accurate. Even where I am the pressure is intense to conform to the liberal narrative. To even mention that Trump is not all wrong would probably get me fired. It’s 100% social justice posturing and virtue signalling all up and down the line

I talked to a guy yesterday who is very worried about the States because of Trump. He thinks Trump supporters were “duped.” Haa — just wait until he and all those Liberal supporters figure out who really has been duped.
Greens gave the game away when they refused to consider nuclear power, stopped including hydro as green energy and only supported natgas as a suitable transition power source when natgas prices were obscenely high. They obviously only want expensive, unreliable power and complete control of the energy market.
What I find darkly humorous is the idea that we can replace reliable, affordable baseload power with expensive, intermittent power while *simultaneously* substantially increasing demand by mandating electric cars and possibly electric heat (Ontario a couple years back).

My friend in Lethbridge brand new furnace logic board crapped out over the holiday weekend. No one around to fix it as it has to be ordered in.
They had a fireplace and electric heaters. That’s what saved their brand new home from utter destruction of busted water pipes and floors from freezing cracks.
However to agree with Montreal and Vancouver ban, like Denver had smoke problems a few years back, it could be a health issue with so many people in a small patch of land. Think London.

They will do that by creating ENERGY POVERTY. It works like this. Shut down all the Cheap methods of creating electricity. Replace said methods with so called “renewables” which all require expensive and totally inefficient Nat Gas Backup. Make illegal any use of Wood or Nat Gas burning fireplaces and stoves for Heat. Electricity, then becoming the only source of energy, will skyrocket. Business cannot survive in said price climate and either shut down or move to less onerous climes.
RESULT: Sky-high electricity rates – Total Dependance upon electricity for heat and in time for vehicles. No Jobs – All population now dependant upon government largesse. You either heat your home and starve or eat and freeze….and forget about driving anywhere.!
