“You’re lazy. You’re cowards. You simply do not have the work effort or strength to do the hard part of parenting. You simply lack the spine to provide the desperately needed tough fatherly love and discipline every child needs. Your parenting is not “new” or “progressive” or “advanced” or “on the cutting edge of child psychology.” It’s lazy, cowardly, shitty slop just like your kids.“

Ummm,
He’s off by a generation, a common mistake. Gen-X is generally known to have been born from’65-’75. Their children would be well past the 18-year-old mark by now. He probably is referring to millennials.
If you think they’re horrid when they’re younger, just wait until they’re in school or, worse, in some post-secondary institution when you have to teach classrooms full of them.
I’m sure that if I’d stayed on at the place where I used to teach, I would have become an alcoholic. Yeah, the job was that stressful. In fact, most of the former educators I know were glad they no longer had to teach.
A former neighbour of mine was a schoolteacher and she preferred to teach pre-teens. They were old enough to have discipline and a sense of responsibility but they were too young to be hooligans. She told me that when her pupils misbehaved, it’s because they were children. When they’re older and go off the rails, there’s no excuse.
A Millenial Job Interview. HIlarious.

Uh, Gen-Xer here with a 16-year-old kid. She’s on the honour roll, has numerous volunteering awards, and gets multiple job offers each summer. Thanks for the generalization, however.
There are exceptions; keep up the good work.
Hey, it’s a hot take on parenting from the childless minimalist! Let me immediately go to this click bait. Wait, it was written by an old man yelling at a cloud? No? It’s obviously made-up stories from a one-trick pony pushing his agenda? Pass. But once you have two-year old twins be sure to fill us in on how you stop them from yelling or running around in public. The entire world of parents of two-year old twins awaits your wisdom….
Moronic rant. Who raised such a twit?
I have witnessed much of the same childish behaviour described by the Capt. … and their children were awful too. Free range children do not (usually) turn into Steve Jobs … they (more typically) turn into Charles Manson. But most will have psychotic breaks from reality after dope-smoking their way thru high school. Get ready for the Gen.-X echo of a homeless population explosion. In fact, if you walk the streets of Portlandia … you will see what becomes of these undisciplined children … “White punks on dope. White punks on dope … they’ll hang themselves when they get enough rope … white punks on dope”. Thanks to Fee Waybill.
So, Cap’n, now you’re quoting yourself back to us? Couldn’t find anything better/more interesting/more profound? You might want to expand your reading list.
Russia, send us a EMP. We need a purge.

“Why Gen X Parents Will be Worse…”
Will be? As others pointed out Gen X parents have been parents for quite a while now. If they started early enough they have millennial teenagers already.
If anything Gen X are better than either those before them or after… but then I may be biased.
Still it is Boomers who never grew up and who after spending their youth copulating in mud and puke of Woodstock went on to write policy for the last few decades. Gen X are starting but it is still mostly Boomers. So thank you Boomers, … pity some of you haven’t overdose when you had the chance.
please dont paint this boomer with the same brush as my compatriots.
I consider myself very fortunate to have lived thru such a pivotal time in civilization. the anti-war, human rights etc speil dovetailed with my dna.
BUT, with time I learned to fine tune the attitudes and position. but I still detest violence and abuses by bullies and authorities in any situtation. the difference NOW is when cornered, I WILL threaten horrific violence to deter the aggresor. works every time, because they correctly sense I am NOT bluffing.
my dna also included a work ethic exhibited 100% by my parents and siblings.
it is why I retired early etc.
it is why I continue to enjoy the rewards of hard work in *whatever* pursuit be it academic, home reno, exercise, music etc et friggin CETERA.
laziness offends me, becaue in a liberal socialistic world, it means a portion of MY hard work is siphoned off by street hoodlums and spongers. boo hoo hoo go the liberals on a crying jag because life isnt fair.
etc etc
Well as a boomer, I never did make it to Woodstock…did finish High School, and have worked ever since…did College/ Graduated (Engineering-Trades), and am now nearing retirement. Two kids now 24/27, on their own – both working good jobs…and they were taught the proper way: Eat with your mouth closed, say thank you and use please etc etc. They made it through the Socialist teachings of Public School and both are now Liberterian/Conservatives…having seen what govt takes form their cheques.
Most, but not all of my Generation did the same…so if you are talking about boomers…I would say it was the beatnik/hippie gen that couldn’t pass up a hit of windowpane to save their lives that were the issue…but than not all of them were an issue either. So to generalize doe snot make it de-facto.
OMG does every post here needs to have a disclaimer stating that not everyone and especially not SDA regulars are included in generalizations?
And no the majority of your generation wasn’t the same as you. The majority of your generation has repeatedly voted for more state and more socialism, that is why conservatives have been fighting a delaying action ever since Boomers reached voting age.
Hi, I’m Captain Capitalism’s mum.
My darling son is full of cr@p. He rants about the permissiveness and laziness of “parents today”, yet we old-school parented him — I routinely ignored his tantrums, Captain Capitalism Sr. whipped his a$$ regularly, etc. — and he was still as much of a little sh*t himself as the (probably made-up) screaming 2-year old that supposedly ruined his recent coffee shop experience.
And, as we can all see, despite our best parenting efforts, he’s still turned out to be a whiny, self-obsessed, often unbearable but most just embarrassing man-child. At least our other kids turned out OK.
PS – Aaron, if you’re reading this, come up from the basement — dinner’s ready.
Uh, the old man and I are Gen Xers and all but 2 of our children are of legal majority. The first two got raised with the last kids of Boomer parents, the last two are young and getting raised with the first of the Millenials’ kids, the middle one is the only one raised with majority Gen Xers’ kids…and that one’s probably the most sensible of the lot — it could be personality, that’s the mellow one. The other ones can be kinda hard chargers; they manage to achieve a lot but they’re a little hot headed.
Turned out ok too…not that it was fun trying to raise them to be decent amid some of their peer group.
Oldest one was commended for Bronze Star with V 😉
He accuses us Gen-Xers of not disciplining our children, while ignoring the fact that physical discipline is all but outlawed in many industrialized countries now. The state is also a lot more intrusive and has the potential to monitor families to a far higher degree than in the past so as a parent you have to tread carefully to make sure you don’t attract the notice of social workers. And I’m pretty sure the blame for this lies with those who came before ie, The Boomers.
Believe me, a belt or switch would be far easier than constantly trying to think up effective non-violent methods of “discipline”. Clary wouldn’t understand that though since he’s childless (or as I like to prefer to call it, a failure).
